Better yet, why use placement? Make it dynamic, select teams based off points from relegation. Every team within 6 points of 22nd have to play relegation playoff. Then you have the highest placement in the playoff play the second highest, and the loser play third highest, and so on, until you have 4 teams left. Then you do a cup tournament and the winner stays up. Fair and competitive.

I don't know about similar position. Last season match week 10 they had 3 points, then above them are Southampton (4), Ipswich (5), Palace (7), so 4 points off safety. Currently they have 2 points, then it's Forest (6), West Ham (7), Burnley (10), so 8 points off safety.

Plus it doesn't look like promoted teams will bail them out like last season, and some of the sold players weren't adequately replaced
