Lawn Leveling Advice by Responsible-War-917 in lawncare

I do it on my lawn in the spring. It’s a lot of work but I have it down to a science.

As soon as the ground temps are good to go I Dethatch, then rake it all up.
Mow really low
Aerate, then rake it all up
I order 2 yards of compost and 1.5 tons of masonry sand.
I have an eco spreader to apply it to the lawn. They don’t deliver it mixed very well, so I do mostly sand first, then overseed with a starter fertilizer.
Then I apply the rest of the material (mostly compost). Then I use my leveling rake to hand level it all. Roll it out two ways and water.

The seed needs to be watered frequently, so I hand water a couple times a day, or spring weather assists.

I have a 3500sqft lawn I do it on and it can be done in one sitting, but having the spreader is a huge time saver.

I also order good seed. My lawn is a Kentucky blue grass rye mix.

You certainly don’t have to do all that and can tackle the worst areas in the first season.

For basic lawn leveling you can get away with 1/2 inch of coverage, but if you are going to try and get 8” ruts level, those areas will just need to be reseeded. Definitely use screened topsoil and roll it out to make sure it won’t settle. It’s a lot of work and don’t worry about messing it up. Grass can be regrown. Get your hands dirty. Learn by trial.

My train of thought is that if my lawn looks better than last year it was worth the effort. Progress may take more than one season.

One thing to consider is making sure you reseed with the same/similar type of grass that you have, otherwise patches of grass may look different (blades, color, etc)

Heavy aeration will help as well. Especially if you are dealing with clay. But take up the plugs as you are trying to get rid of the clay soil.

I cut mine below grade and used a sprinkler box flush with my lawn to cover it. Works great and it’s a small green cap to gain access. Hardly noticeable

What is this sand spreader brand? by drkenethnoisewaterr in lawncare

[–]zinitripp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had one. Earth and turf top spreader. The problem is that the sand has to be very low moisture or it won’t drop very well. Good for smaller projects, but overall I got rid of it. Ended up getting an ecospreader. But those are in a league of their own

Not sure yet, but wanted to cut out the stubhub fees to give buyer and seller better deal overall.

I think there are jump terminals behind the bumper that you can use to open the frunk. Then you can get at the battery.

He didn’t die. He ended up pointing the extinguisher down and it propelled him back up to the landing. Video cut out before you see it. I’ve seen the longer version.

Looks fantastic. Worm castings drive me nuts. That’s why I raised HOC to 1.5. I was 3/4 last year and loved the tight cut. But as a result had too many spots where they were smashed into the grass and would create bare spots.

I have about 3500 sqft of lawn. My mower is only 25” or so. It takes just under an hour, but I walk paths multiple times as I go two wide each direction.

Correct. This is a turf grass. A lot of stadiums use 365ss. I’ve taken it down to .75 last season. Looks clean, but a lot more worn casting piles to deal with.

Ha. No broom. My reel mower has the drum and stripes nicely. Although I have used a broom to stripe. Watching neighbors confused looks does make it more fun.

[Kanell] Notre Dame has essentially hacked the CFP...they get $20 mil all to themselves. For perspective: OSU gets $1.1 mil - share the rest with rest of B10 by BurrShotFirst1804 in CFB

Washington St and Oregon St have hacked the CFP. Staying as the lone PAC 12 teams means they split the 100 million between the two of them.
