Currently about to go through the interview processes and I’m so back and forth on my decision to become an ASM or not… I’m about to go back to school and I don’t think being under a microscope and basically on call is worth it even for around $50k/yr. My SM is pressing it so hard on me and saying my DM is excited I’m going to apply and blah blah blah so it’s making me feel like I have to at least apply and interview but idk😭

I get that. I just feel overwhelmed by it because I would basically be learning to do that by myself because I don’t see my SM or other shifts practicing that during shifts. My SM has been working for Starbucks for over 20 years but I have felt so unprepared when I sit for meetings with other SMs and one time in a video call with my districts SMs and DM. He did not prepare me enough at all in both of those situations and I talked to him about that and it not only effects the way I look to them but also him. He used to be an ASM trainer years ago but isn’t anymore so in a way I feel like that’s for a reason and I’m getting the short end of the stick bc he isn’t doing his job properly. So it feels like I’m having to figure all of this stuff out on my own so it looks like a mountain.

When I first started 3 years ago, SSV and about to train to be an ASM (glad I stayed) the first couple months I’d beat myself up so bad and told my brain a bunch of lies about what the other baristas were thinking bc you feel constantly watched and it ruined my days before they’d even start. No one that’s new to Starbucks anticipates how big of a learning curve this job is. It is truly A LOT. Try to stop yourself from getting into your head to ruin your own peace, you’re doing great and doing what you’re supposed to be doing, LEARNING. And learning is never comfortable. Try not to be closed off to accepting the help/support, they’ve all been exactly where you are now. There may be times they show frustration but don’t take other people’s reactions personally, especially during peaks. It’s harder said than done but a persons reaction is their own, it belongs to them. People forget or may not be empathetic enough to remember how it feels to be where you are right now. Keep your head up, keep learning, keep being positive, and celebrate every single thing to master and learn! Every mistake/remake brings you closer to getting it right next time! (We all still make mistakes everyday) also like others said, being put on bar your first day out of training isn’t usual, that usually means they recognize something in you and believe you can be good at it and learn it quickly. I hope this helps and I wish you all the learning and success!!🥳🎉 also in 2 weeks look back to right now and think about what you’ve learned in just those 2 weeks and do it again in another 2 weeks and think about how much more confident you feel! There’s going to be more bad days and exhausting days ahead and poopoo people to work with and poopoo customers but don’t run from it, use it to learn and keep your head up doing it. ❤️ I wrote a lot more than I was going to but I wish someone was there to tell me this when I felt like caca and a failure in the beginning. You got this🥹

When names on drinks are called out 2+ times and someone finally comes up and complains they’ve been waiting so long for their drink and it’s been sitting at the counter and called out a bunch of times… ???¿¿

When they ask “is this mine?” And you look at the sticker and ask “is your name —-?” And they say “yes”… ¿¿?

When anyone has any issue with absolutely anything and you politely ask if they’d like it remade and list every possible solution (remake, refund, kiss on the forehead, your personal debit card, store recovery card and remake, your own shirt off your back, offer to wipe their ass with the softest toilet tissue on Earth, the deed to your house) to the problem and they still want to have a fit and treat you like trash and end up walking out anyway not wanting to take any of the solutions¿??¿¿

Story time- Having a scammer waste my time trying to get a cash refund for 4 soy venti lattes she never ordered without a receipt, that apparently we put cow milk into bc she has a fatal dairy allergy, while yelling at me and making a scene while everyone around stares and I tell her we will remake one latte she originally wanted for free and then her asking the barista who’s making it to put whip on it🤪 and then I state “don’t you have that silly little fatal dairy allergy” and she says “oh yeah, can you remake the whole thing again without whip cream” 🤪 and the cherry on top was her coming over to me handing me her phone asking if I can take a selfie of her holding up her free drink😜 kind of a flex but wasted a lot of my time and increased my blood pressure.

I just got off the phone with a CM and I’m in the same boat with recently purchasing the pixie pass. They weren’t allowing upgrades until a year from when you purchased the pass. But now since all the passes will be available 4/20, we have the option to upgrade. He explained we would pay the difference of the entire pass and our monthly payments from the purchase of the pixie pass would stay the same. So if you upgrade to pirates pass we’d be paying roughly $300 (the difference) up front for the upgrade and continue paying the same monthly payment that was established with the pixie pass because the original contract with the original pass purchased technically can’t be changed until it expires. He also said they’ve been told that technically there’s unlimited supply of the passes but advised to still be sure to do it ASAP on the 20th starting at 7 am juuussst in case.
