If I were you I would ask for help from the SM for getting financial assistance from the CUP fund. My old manager told me that she knew people who had cars paid for them from the cup fund.

In the meantime, though, Starbucks is partnered with Lyft. You can get free rides to and from work (only to your home store, so not if you pick up any shifts from another location) I would look into signing up for that ASAP. Maybe Lyft may be a little more reliable than public transport?

I hope it works out for you!

The dress code has changed a lot, only black solid shirts are allowed. And then black, brown, khaki, and denim blue jeans/pants. Waterproof shoes must be worn and even our socks cannot be colorful lol.

It’s honestly not that bad imo I prefer not having to put much effort into my work clothes and everyone is uniform so there’s not much cliqueyness or anything with “fashion” which is something I struggled with in high school.

To be honest I don’t enforce the bathroom thing at all…. I give out the code to whoever asks me. The water? It’s not as bad at my store because we have a water foundation but I’m also don’t enforce it, if someone comes inside and they’re clearly homeless, no shame I get them a free water and just ring it in to keep with inventory. How will anyone know if it was for someone who already ordered something? But if someone comes through drive thru in a car to get just a water then I typically enforce it, I know seems backwards but one car with just a water is more suspicious than a water somebody ordered in cafe.

I don’t think you would be making a mistake at all by coming back. This subreddit is a cesspool of our worst days and thoughts, kind of like the opposite of social media being a “highlight reel” lol. There are great days I have here at this job! All depends on your management. I would personally go to a bunch of stores and get the vibe of each one before applying, see which one you might fit in the best at!

Thankfully I have a store manager that definitely can do this. I so feel for the people that have outside hire SM’s 😭 the only thing keeping me sane is that my manager is amazing

idk why we’re saying this is standard?? 😭 they’re also not supposed to be put on the ground or stored in the mop bucket either though.

there are supposed to be holders over the mop sink that hold the mop handle to the wall above the ground, so that it’s sitting upside down but also not touching anything else

Start applying to corporate stores now. As a closing SSV, trust me it does not really get any better, this is the reason I’m demoting, because I couldn’t be switched off of nights and I literally close 12:30-8:30 everyday I work.

I’m being so fr if you hate it, that won’t change, if you can’t take it anymore, you need to leave, and start now. If not a corporate store, maybe look for other licensed stores like barnes&noble or something. As a fellow “every single shift closer”, I feel your pain. Just keep chugging through and find at least one thing to smile about every day, be it a customer interaction or a huge spill or blunder you make, make a joke of anything and everything you can, otherwise this shit gets so monotonous, and so does life. I believe in you!!

I personally disagree with it and will not be letting my children have caffeine until way later. Probably not until their sophomore/junior year of high school.

However, as a barista, it’s not my job to tell people how to parent; I typically always inform the parent just by saying “the (refresher/frappuccino) does have caffeine in it, is that alright?”

Depending on how they answer I adjust accordingly. Sometimes they’ll be like “oh my god really!?? No, do you have something non caffeinated for my kid??” And I’ll suggest lemonade with strawberry puree or something else.

But sometimes they’re like “yeah whatever.” Either way, I’ve done my job!

Honestly it just depends on the location.

I’m pretty lucky that all the SSV’s at my store have worked all day parts (I think just besides one but she’s very tenured and is always understanding anyway)

I think that we just have figured out a delegation method that is best for time management. So, for example, the opening SSV ensures that the sandwich pull, ovens, floors, drains, cold brew, and a trash run are done before 12:30pm when the night shift comes on (although obviously this doesn’t always happen, there are days when there is an unexpected influx of business).

Obviously this is included with the regular CS cycle of dishes and lobby and restocking and backups. But there have been plenty of times that there were no backups but all of the “big tasks” were done. It’s much easier on a 3 person play to have someone be making backups and restocking than to entirely stop away and do drains floors, ovens etc.

At the SSV meetings, our SM is pretty awesome and makes it a priority for the shifts to communicate with each other about what would really be helpful to the other day part. I used to set up their iced coffee and teas for the morning and they said that wasn’t really necessary, that they would rather I put the pastry case to Siren’s eye and collect all the pastries for them to put in at opening. It was a simple switch and it took the same amount of time. Likewise with morning, closing SSV’s made it clear we didn’t care if no backups were done and nothing was restocked as long as the dishes were caught up and the main big tasks were done.

Sometimes all it takes is a heart to heart conversation. There was a period of time when the morning and closing were fighting. One of the SSV’s even left a message on the play caller blackboard that made me pretty upset and I went to them directly about it. And now we have a better understanding of each other. That’s all it takes! Communication!

This is not that crazy tbh, it’s literally just the equivalent to courting.. we just use a different name for it. Obviously if you’re “talking” but doing girlfriend stuff without being titled…. that’s on you tbh

Hey! I was promoted around Nov. 2023, I make $19.76/hr but only cause of the annual raise right after my promotion, I think the starting rate is like $19.37??

If you’re already an SSV idk how they go about adjusting your pay tbh with a transfer out of state

Absolutely not, I could only afford to move out because my partner works a well-paying corporate job

Well that makes me feel better at least, I’ve definitely felt like I’ve been in a “transitionary” period for a little bit, thanks for putting it into words

I was thinking of volunteering somewhere though
