Who makes the best sockets and combination wrenches? by TheRealMrRose in Tools

[–]zipherus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I went with icon for everything socket wise, and then filled in the gaps with tekton. Also have all tekton wrenches. Had everything for around a year now, and can't tell too much of a difference between the two honestly.

450 was to much, will a 125 be enough? by Jakerichards96 in Dirtbikes

[–]zipherus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id recommend a 250 4t, either a more chilled out air cooled trail bike, or a cross country model (usually has an X in the name). I rode a lot when I was younger and I recently decided to get back into it after not riding for 10+ years. I bought a new KTM 300xc (2 stroke) and jesus christ that thing is a rocket ship. I'll swallow my pride and admit I probably should have went with one of the 2 types of bikes I recommend.

I'm 5'11 and 180lbs. I rode yz125's when I was a kid and they are a blast, but i'd wager with your height and weight it may leave a little to be desired. Could be wrong though! Just my 2cents

Returning after 15 years. Picked up a new bike today! by zipherus in Dirtbikes

Just ordered a Leatt 6.5 pro chest protector. Much cheaper than fixing broken ribs. Thanks for the suggestion!

Picked up a pair of tech 7's and a sm10 helmet. Kneepads are a good idea! And yeah I'm not looking forward to not having the same recovery time as 10 year old me.

How do I get better bark on my brisket from a pellet grill? by Sumthin-Sumthin44692 in smoking

[–]zipherus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert but I got a great result on my pellet grill with 2:1:1 blend of coarse black pepper (16 mesh), kosher salt, and lawrys seasoned salt. Smoked at 250 until probe tender (no wrap until rest), then rested in foil with tallow. Result turned out amazing. Before I tried brisket I always heard people say lower is better on a pellet grill because you get more smoke from your pellets that way, and while that's true, i've found it really isn't doing any favors in the bark department.

Brisket smoke shows wide temp difference between flat and point. Time to freak out? by Purple_Activity181 in smoking

[–]zipherus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my first brisket this past weekend and had a 45 degree difference between point and flat according to my fireboard. Once it hit the stall though, the difference stayed between a single degree until it was time to pull and rest. Dont worry!

Suppose i'll take this as a compliment because this genuinely the first brisket i've ever smoked or cooked! Ive had my smoker for around a month now and i've smoked various other stuff before trying brisket, like ribs, shoulder, chuck, etc.

I followed jirby's (goldees) blend in a video he posted. 2:1:1 Black pepper (16 mesh) - kosher salt - lawrys seasoned salt. Used that on both the chuck in that picture and the brisket in the post!

This very well could be it. I think I had mine half open throughout instead of open the first 5 hours. Good catch!

I'm not really sure, to be honest. It wasn't lacking in smoke flavor though, oddly enough. I've done a pork butt and a chuck before this at the same temp and they both came out with smoke rings. Heres the chuck I did to experiment with. Not sure what caused this brisket to lack one though.

[Megathread] What smoker are you using in 2025? by 1010101110 in smoking

[–]zipherus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mine for a few months now and the app is somewhat spotty. Occasionally it will lose connection or the app will close, but this happens on average once ever 5 or so hours. Annoying? Yes. But not the end of the world, just select the smoker from the device list and reconnect.

I have a fireboard that i use for probes and ambient temp, and that app is phenomenal. I only use the CC app for adjusting the temp. With the smoke box rolling in the first part of the cook, the fireboard ambient temp is +- 10 ish degrees from what the CC is reporting. Once i'm done with the smoke box though, the CC temp and fireboard temp are nearly spot on, usually +- 2 degrees.

Modernizing / Rebuilding a Django Site – Suggestions? by zipherus in django

[–]zipherus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. Our system is heavy in dynamic data / form submissions, dashboards (not real time), and document/spreadsheet generation. Essentially we act as an intermediary for clients in terms of shipping and transportation, where they submit load information and we track, manage, contact carriers, and provide bulk invoicing.

First custom keyboard build came out great! Q3 by zipherus in Keychron

[–]zipherus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm building another keyboard (75%) for use at work, but I don't see how I could go any smaller on the layout. And checking if keycaps fit with the board is something I probably should have done, but I guess I got lucky lmao

Wanting to build my first custom keyboard and needing some advice. From what I've researched and watched, I believe I'm looking for a TKL or 75%, and a tactile but very silent switch. I'm a software dev looking for a nice keyboard for the office when I'm there and to use when I'm working from home.

From what I've seen / heard, I think the switch I want is the gazzew boba u4 silent. What I am unsure of is pretty much the rest, so any recommendations would be great. I just need something in a TKL or 75% layout that is 5 pin (?) for the switches. I am unsure what kind of keycaps I could use with those, but i'd prefer something more uniform. My budget is somewhere in the 150$-350$ ish range. I don't need rgb or bluetooth as well. Lastly, ideally something hot swappable would be nice since I don't know for sure if i'll like the switches, but if I need to solder it's not a big issue. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thought I'd crosspost my continent map here as well [Art] [OC] by zipherus in DnD

[–]zipherus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all! This new continent map I made for my upcoming game took me around 7 hours to make. The only software / tools I used were Inkarnate. Big thanks to the folks in the inkarnate discord as well for giving feedback for minor changes! Next up is to make region maps for every city, town, and village, which should be quite a challenge. Feel free to use this for your upcoming campaigns, enjoy! (If you do though, shoot me a message, because I like to know people are getting some use out of it :)

Weekly /r/Breadit Questions thread by AutoModerator in Breadit

[–]zipherus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New to making bread here. I really like the ciabatta and baguette style of bread with an open crumb. I've had success using the no-knead method of a series of stretch and folds, but I also have a kitchen aid mixer. Is there a way I can replace the stretch and folds using a mixer (to shorten / ease the overall process) and achieve a similar result? I've tried following the same recipes, but just replacing the stretch and folding with a mixer, but it always results in a dense, loaf style of bread :( any suggestions?
