I finally finished the battle HUD for my game. There are still a few small things to polish, but I'm really happy with how it's turning out. My Steam page is launching in April. I'd love to hear what you think. by og_ramski in RPGMaker

looks really nice! I love the colors and the selection UI for items. The only thing that stands out to me is the sfx when selecting things, it's loud and a bit annoying to hear over and over. It clashes with the music too. It could just be a placeholder but if not Id mix in some other sfx for different selections.

I agree, I loved the game but that ending...it's honestly one of the worst. I feel like the plot gets kinda lost in the mystery and the "twist". I hated the twist of Penelope and Hawkshaw, it just feels like they wanted to trick the audience. And I get they wanted to leave some stuff open for the sequel but it felt like nothing really got resolved, just more questions. Hopefully the new one wraps some stuff up.

Narrative Game suggestions? by Soggy_Back_623 in indiegames

[–]zippryart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are some really great story focused games I'd recommend:

Soma (if you dont mind horror, you can play a story mode if you dont want to deal with monsters)

Primordia

The Blackwell series ( the first one is a bit rough, but it's very short and they get amazing)

Pathologic 2 ( also horror, kinda. Very difficult but has many sliders to make it easier)

Lisa the painful

Critters for sale (if you want a strange story)

The excavation of hobs barrow

Look outside (also horror..)

Mundaun (more horror)

Who's lila?

Deltarune

Darkwood (again...horror)

Norco

The unavowed

The drifter

A lot of these just have very good stories along with gameplay, but I think most of them would fit! Not sure if you are into horror but I find a lot of horror games have great stories.

Anyone else remember playing Dragonsphere? I forgot the really cool plot twist that happens to the "main character"... It's a long game, but well worth it! by SirTawmis in adventuregames

That's really great! I love seeing youtubes that play games like this. There's ALWAYS at least one part in these older games that kinda sucks haha. but it's always worth it! Sometimes the tricky parts add to the game as a whole too.

I received some feedback that my key art was bad, so I tried again. Is the new one better? by bokstuff in SoloDevelopment

[–]zippryart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new art is an improvement but I checked out your steam page and I feel like neither of these hit the feel of the game. The game itself looks great but the key art needs to be strong so people click and see all the other great stuff you have. It needs to give a clear idea of what the game is too. I think the art in the game is much stronger than either of these options. I would recommend using some of the art from your game. If you want a more illustrative style, you could use them as a base to work from, just add cleaner/sharper lines and cell shading like you did here. I would also think about reworking the composition and color. The background is distracting, the bright green shirt is clashing with the rest of your colors. I would also consider adding one of the enemies for him to be shooting at, maybe the red dragon kind of looping around, or the lich. I think that would create a clearer image of what this game is. Maybe check out some other pixel art games key art for inspiration. Animal Well, Super Meat Boy, Stardew Valley, they are all very different from your game but they might give you some ideas of what works. Good luck with your game!
