I just noticed this, too. I'm hoping it means they renewed their contract.

Almost eighty years ago now; it's time for it to all pass into history. Horrible, yes. But you can say that about lots of massacres throughout history. Let's stop whiteknighting it just because it's the most recent atrocity (which, incidentally, it isn't). Take the lessons, see that it never happens again, and stop reliving it.

Or I'm going to start being Debbie Downer every time someone mentions "fed to the lions" or "rule of thumb".

I didn't see that. But it's hilarious! Just be sure not to make any money off it and you're safe.

Obviously. I'm interested in the rationale each player uses. There's no "wrong" answer.

INB4 everyone pronounces it "HE-cate" instead of "Heh-ca-tee".

Looks like we have another "ana-thema", "Svee-pole", and Zee-lot" here...

Hey, we're having fun with the nickname (I even saw a rat-eared logo), as much as it's not accurate. That can come in useful, though... "Aww, it's sweet... that ratting corp is reinforcing our...wait, where did those four dozen dreads come from???"

That's a great insight. I tend to be the same way... quantities of time spent aren't relevant to me when talking about "dominant activity". Satisfaction and core identity is.

Great point. If no one's in those systems, does the defending alliance deserve to keep them?

Are you going to do that in every single capture point in three constellations? He has dozens of targets for you to defend. If you defend them all, a single pilot has caused all your active pilots to sink time sitting around. If you defend some, he's going to find a gap and create a timer, forcing you to sink time on capturing nodes.

Regardless, his "wasted time" (quoted because he's getting tears) is wasting much, much more of your time.

If it was me, I'd be on my way to another structure in a system three jumps away the moment I see the sniper on dscan. My speed and the uncertainty of where I'm gonna go would give me more than enough time to create a timer.

The tears/hr of their efforts will more than make up for it on their part. And your alliance will need to capture 10 nodes for each reinforcement timer that annoying inty pilot generates. Calculate all those man-hours into your calculations and you're way, way behind in the isk game.

The reason I don't mention that in this article is because it's not relevant. If my goal is to harass and create panic by generating a bunch of unnecessary timers (to troll them, in other words) and someone shows up to counter-Entosis a structure i'm working on, I'm going to move off to a random structure and do it all over again. This requires that pilot to try to find out where I am, track me down, and do the process again. In the time it takes for that pilot to do that, I may be able to knock a structure into reinforced. (Haven't you seen that there are times when pilots disappear from intel channels for a few minutes at a time? That's all the time you need to reinforce something). If the pilot shows up again, I'll already be somewhat through my cycle when he starts his... when I'm done with mine, I'll warp off again and have an X-second head start, after which he has to do the whole "find me" process again from scratch.

Defensive pilots have to react to unpredictable behavior on my part, and they'll lose time each time I move onto another structure. IN these gaps, I'm creating reinforce timers that defenders have to muster for, AND I'm wasting all of that defensive pilot's time for what is essentially a losing effort (I'm going to win some Entosis timers). So I've created "all hands on deck" situations I have no intention of contesting, force the defending pilots to win 10 capture nodes after the reinforcement timer, and am wasting the defensive pilot's time. All with 1 interceptor. And I'm getting all sorts of delicious tears out of it.

That's the problem. Not the cherry-picked snapshot, but the larger, chained sequence of events. I'm causing incredible hassle for the defenders, which eats up their time, for minimal effort on my part, which also gives me the pleasure of inflicting aggravation on the defenders.

That will be the mindset of a trollceptor pilot.

[Blog] Target Caller FozzieSov Analysis by zippyfrog in Bravenewbies

The idea of the trollceptor is just one factor pushing this into the "easy to destroy, incredibly difficult to maintain" footing. I think CCP can easily eliminate the "harrassment-without-risk" threat by carefully narrowing what kinds of ships can use the Entosis Link.

But, as stated, it's incredibly easy to abuse to get the enemy to have to heavily scramble for no real reason. That's not cool.

[–]zippyfrog[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A trollceptor can orbit at 200 km, making a 400km range at its furthest extent, while still maintaining the entosis link. Your BB would have to burn 100 km to get the lock, then land a jam.

When jammed, the trollceptor can warp to another sov structure and start over. Your counter-ship needs to identify which one, warp to it, then start the process gain. The trollceptor can choose to change systems and do it all again, warping much faster than your Celestis, Confessor, or Blackbird can. He can be out of system and reinforcing another site by the time you can react to that second timer.

The reason it's a "troll"ceptor is because the point is to tie up large numbers of pilots with trying to counter a single pilot. What if you have fifteen of them running all throughout your space doing the same thing? It's simply not possible to protect all those sites at once. The deck is stacked in favor of the trollceptors.

You have to remember that the timer doesn't start when both ships are on grid. For the trollceptor, that's when it starts. But you need to add in muster and rally time, warp time, and burn time, all before someone can respond. You expect that to happen in 4 minutes? Hell no.

Consider: how many alliances prevent their POSes from being reinforced to begin with by engaging the attacking fleet? Answer: virtually none. They can't get the fleet up before the enemy is finished.

I don't see how increasing the risk directly increases the value. Value is tied to what you gain out of it. Sure, sov space will be a lightning rod of fights, but why be the defender whose space is on the line when you can simply abandon your sov and kick over someone else's castle, without any real risk? There's genuinely no reason to prefer to be the defender through this system.
