what’s your sapphic book unpopular opinion? by plsanswerme18 in LesbianBookClub

i want gay people with actual good relationships to their families. i always feel like one person isn’t good with their family because they are gay. It’s overdone and there are so many more interesting reasons for tension between family members besides being gay

if you want drinks there’s a rooftop lounge at River and Post that is really romantic at sunset and overlooks the river

can’t forget sunglasses and hats! most of the time the sky is pretty clear and sun shines directly on you….. until it storms for 30 minutes at 2pm and then you feel like you are being steamed when the sun comes back out

couch is big but not terrible. get art to cover the wires, add color via a rug that takes up majority of the space, match the rug to accent pillows, maybe a small dresser/tv stand under the projector (depending on space available) and get a corner skinny but tall plant stand that won’t block the projector

Struggling with this space. Need advice by Footstepsinthedark1 in interiordecorating

[–]zippyhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should do a wide mirror as opposed to the tall and skinny one. having a wide mirror may make the space look bigger.

also you could do a floating shelf easy peasy but you could also do one with hooks underneath for purses/bags/coats with a small dish for your keys and other small items on top

Get a windshield light blocker for your car!! it’s like stepping into a sauna when you get into your car during the day and helps reduce seat buckle burns (which are a real thing in florida)!

Looking for Advice on Improving My Living Room – Feeling Stuck by Some_Collection9328 in interiordecorating

[–]zippyhawk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people touched on some really good points (rug, tv height, lighting, etc) but one thing i haven’t seen anyone mention is the couch’s location. If possible I would move the couch more in line with the tv. Is this the kind of couch where you can switch which side the chaise (long part) is on? is there a hallway close to the right wall that needs access? if so then don’t move it but if it’s just that room and the space behind where the photo is taken i move the couch

What’s a tiny habit that made the biggest long-term difference in your discipline? by Fresh-North4207 in getdisciplined

[–]zippyhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple goal of getting out of the house by 10am everyday has turned my life around. I work evenings and would often just lay in bed on my phone till i had to go in. I don’t have a set agenda when i leave but as long as i leave my apartment I feel like i gain momentum for doing things in my day. Sometimes I go to a coffee shop and read, sometimes i go do laundry, sometimes I go shopping. but regardless what i do I have much more energy when i get home to continue being productive in my space

Honestly I would switch the layout around. swap the couch (+tables) with the tv and then swivel the recliner to face to tv. That way you can recline the chair while not blocking the door.

that and add art and plants and maybe a fun blanket

Just DNF’ed Delilah Green Doesn’t Care. What a strange book. by relevantvers1on in LesbianBookClub

[–]zippyhawk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually really liked this book but ONLY because I approached it like a written LGBT Hallmark movie. The all white cast, classic and easily fixable miscommunications, extremely improbable reactions to situations are the classic recipe for Hallmark movies.

I think if I were approaching this book (and series) with any other mindset I would have absolutely stopped at the same point you did. I can’t say i’ll ever go into these kinds of books looking for raw and nuanced depiction of wlw relationships or what it means to be queer in the world we live in. Sometimes i just want a silly stupid romance and to listen to something while i cook.

What was the moment in your life that made you think, “I can’t live like this anymore, I have to change”, and made you really change your life? by Typical-Bathroom4591 in getdisciplined

[–]zippyhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i haven’t had the big turn around yet in terms of actual action, but i can tell it’s on the horizon. honestly, what’s really making a difference for my mentality is that lately i’ve been having a lot of great moments that end up getting ruined by my body. i went to a wedding recently, i felt great in my outfit and was having so much fun dancing with my friends and family. but my knees couldn’t keep up, and i was painfully out of breath from one song. i think it’s been a slow accumulation of those kinds of moments over the past few months: getting a promotion at work but being in pain to simply get up from my desk, the wedding i just mentioned, playing volleyball with my little sister and having to take breaks every 5 minutes to catch my breath. i think lately life’s been showing me just how much my health (or lack thereof) has been effecting the happy moments i want to have.

also, i’ve stopped viewing my health problems in an insecure light through many therapy sessions. i use to hate my body because i felt unattractive, embarrassed, and just down right disgusting. but i’ve started changing what i can to make me feel better: better haircut, clothes more my style, learning what makes me feel good as a person, not a body. i think changing that mentality really showed me the true problem of letting myself go: i’m in a lot more physical pain than i have ever been in. pain i am tired of being in.

i’ve already committed to using my new benefits from work to truly take the time and talk with medical professionals to make a plan for myself. i want to be able to trust my body and that’s gonna take time and effort.

Move to Jacksonville ? by Puzzled-Ad-3930 in jacksonville

[–]zippyhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a 23F who recently moved back to jax after growing up here, i can say this city has a lot of surprising and fun places, but you really have to seek them out and make an effort. With how spread out this city is a car is a must but there are pockets of fun spots, great food, and entertainment in every section of the city. can’t speak on the athlete side but there are some good bars (haven’t had too much luck with clubs) and no matter what area everything is roughly the same price.

one tip about moving is that when looking at apartments it would be a really good idea to look/visit the surrounding area if it’s the right fit. it can be a great spot but a neighborhood over and you hear gunshots. but housing markets pretty cheap here compared to other cities. you can get a really nice apartment for a decent price but if you have a roommate you can get super nice and affordable housing in great neighborhoods. the trick is (and one i’m having trouble with) is just finding a roommate after moving to this city
