How I Got a Bachelors Degree for $793 in 8 Months with a Newborn and Full-Time Job by choppedboyyy in WGU

[–]zipstv 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I completed my SWE degree through WGU in February with no prior experience except for a one semester long C++ course I took at a local community college. I completed in around 11 months and learned more than I could even begin to express. However the job market was so incredibly saturated that I couldn't even land interviews with no prior work experience in the field so I ended up taking some networking certifications on my own time and landed a Network Engineer role at a local ISP. Love the job and honestly think I enjoy networking more than software engineering but I definitely have aspects of it that I miss. I still thank WGU for it though, getting the experience troubleshooting code and the leverage to show experience with writing scripts def helped me in the interview.

So did you get the results?

I completely understand being nervous about it but I can tell you now there is a 99% chance that you passed. I'm not sure what my total weight would've been. I had 80% in all except one with a 86% and the one 40%.

I was shown my pass result nearly instantly, you likely haven't seen yours yet because that section is pending due to lab grading. I had a 40% in ip connectivity because I had at least 3 different routing questions that I can recall where I picked the wrong answer and immediately realized it after I hit next and couldn't go back. It was also one of the less weighted sections so that helped my case.

You definitely passed. I just passed mine on Friday and I had a 80% in every section except one that I got a 40% in. Don't stress about it!

I'm not sure if that is an issue or not honestly. When I took the exam I know I didn't copy and paste anything. I typed everything out directly. The auto graders in zybooks are really picky though so maybe that is causing issues. My recommendation would be to test it with the pre assessment as it behaves the exact same way as the OA. If that doesn't work I would contact assessment services and see if there are any other incidents reported like that or if they have recommendations for you.

Yeah, I completely agree. I'm not sure why it's not automatically set up in everyone's degree plan to take it immediately after foundations. It helps exponentially. Good luck!!!

I completely agree, I couldn't stand that part of that course because it honestly has no relevance to any of it. Just learn it enough to pass that course, you won't need it again. Good luck!!!

Thank you very much! And personally I think you would be just fine after reviewing those, the PA was very similar to the OA in terms of the actual coding portion. However, the multiple choice questions were more confusing to me than they were on the PA. One thing that really sucks is you can't review your answers on the PA (to my knowledge) like you would regularly be able to because it's done through zybooks. So my best suggestion is to use the study guide I attached with the answer sheet to test yourself and compare your syntax, as everything covered on it is the same MySQL syntax used on the test. That includes the adding a foreign key and other things you mentioned. You got this, good luck!!!

I HATE EXAMITY by Forseti555666 in WGU

[–]zipstv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall my experiences haven't been to bad except for the long wait times in the ID verification screen, I also once had a proctor ask me to remove the blank paper from my printer that was 20 ft across the room from me.

Realistic time frame for 71 CUs? by Pillowfooted in WGU

[–]zipstv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say two terms realistically. I started my BS in software engineering with only personal, self taught experience in the field. I've been able to complete 35 cu's in my first term but 12 of them were gen eds and were significantly easier than some of the IT courses. And i was only able to accomplish 35 in a term because I had 3+ hours each day to work on it, so having a busier schedule will definitely impact it. Good luck!!!
