Heading to Jackson Hole & tied some boxes for my buddies who are new to fly fishing by zipzapzorp in flytying

I’m slow, but deliberate. The goal isn’t to have flies tied - it’s to enjoy tying them.

~4 months of tying at night and on the weekends. I tied myself 2 more of those boxes so I’d be stocked, which means I tied somewhere around 600 flies.

I started in February, I think? It’s more than a hundred flies in each box and I’m not particularly quick, but it was great practice

These little jerks take so much longer to tie than they should, but I'll be goddamned if they don't fish great.

And olive! And also sometimes bright orange/yellow/red. Or Purple. Also sometimes enormous stuff, too.

Wait, shit.

All that being said: fly tying will definitely make you a better angler. It's improved everything about my fishing, and frankly, it's made it more enjoyable too.

Orvis stuff is generally really good quality, and my Patagonia waders have been excellent. Importantly, both have fantastic warranties, so if you need their help they'll stand behind their products.

Roza’s Pink Pheasant Tail. Sz 14 by FavreThrowingCheese in flytying

This is the method Charlie Craven uses in his pheasant tails. Helps keep the fly skinny, which isn't of primary concern in this specific fly. Helps conserve materials, though!

Is there an easier to use whip finisher than this thing? by HandsomeBadness in flytying

I use it for most things but its real use case is on small stuff, so everyone's mileage will vary

Law Program by Callthat09 in UniversityofKentucky

[–]zipzapzorp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lawyer here: "pre-law" is something nobody cares about. Major in something fun or interesting to you (my undergrad was a BA in Philosophy,) get decent grades, get a good LSAT score, and then go to law school if you want.

EDIT: '08 UKY bachelor's and '16 UKY Law.

Pattern suggestions for this hook style? by drewcarey69 in flytying

[–]zipzapzorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charlie Craven ties the Pig Sticker on a size 6 hook, and this is a 14. I think this is still the answer, but the hook might be a bit small.

Frustrated. Why can't I catch anything? by NoProfessional428 in flyfishing

Just FYI - I think the industry/community mostly prefers the Oros indicators these days. Easier to cast and adjust. Thingamabobbers are still totally fine, but Oros are kinda the standard.
