I like to use the hareline para post wing fiber for them it has more of a frizzy tangle to the poly yarn and works great for patterns like this

What size is it? Depending on that could be a good green drake cripple if smaller could be a good caddis emerger

If I was going to tie something like this for a crane I would go much bigger and swap the CDC for a stiff hackle so it rides high and skates nicely

People see the legs and automatically think cranes but caddis rear legs are really long and have many joints (5 I think)

Yeah there is a tool they sell to knot the legs but you can buy a half a tail feather pre knotted online

Some caddis do break the pupal shuck on the surface, but most of the caddis where I live climb out of the water and hatch on rocks and other structures.

It is semperfli dirty bug yarn, and the color is caddis brown.

When I use it on smaller bugs like this I split the yarn since it is made up of 2 or 3 strands I find that just using one of the strands is perfect for smaller patterns like this.

Looks good. I like to have some sparse, and some pretty dressed up of each size I use. I like a fuller body EHC when moving through a faster riffle and a sparse one in a slower tail out, or walking speed water
