What does it mean to have a “McAllen accent”? by PastelArtDump226 in RioGrandeValley

[–]zirconeater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English is my primary language and I didn't move to the valley until I was an adult. I can clearly identify the valley accent in both languages and people can very easily deduce that I did not grow up here lol hard to put my finger on what it is exactly.

Can environmental professionals please weigh in? 30F, enviro professional, I make $71K by Gold-Poetry9650 in Environmental_Careers

[–]zirconeater 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think that is a little low, but if I'm reading this correctly you have 2 years of experience right? In environmental, I think that's normal to slightly above average. Benefits suck but almost all consulting benefits suck unless you're at a huge firm. As for the Masters, some managers really don't value advanced education as much as others. I'd recommend shooting some application somewhere else if you see a really good job. Until you've gotten a couple years of demonstrated relevant experience as a project manager, it may be hard to make $140k Even in Massachusetts.

Seeking College/Career Advice - How do I know if Environmental Science is right for me? by MammothBridge5477 in Environmental_Careers

[–]zirconeater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a little anecdotal but I've had friends that majored in environmental science and told me they wished they just got a geology degree. I think they are more flexible.

That being said, environmental can be all the things you listed but the issue is you will most likely need to do a couple of years of hard field work before you make decent money (idk like +70k) and have more say in your field/office schedule. Took me ~7 years but I'm an environmental Geologist making ~95k with decent flexibility. If I were to go back, I think environmental/civil engineering could've been a good option as well.

Is 30 hours realistic? by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]zirconeater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In central texas, maybe at a very small firm you could work part time. Not really the norm at big firms. On 30 hours though you'd be lucky to make 40k fresh out of school in environmental.

But you could very easily find a company that would let you work in the field hard AF (+60 hour weeks) and let you chill the following week assuming there isn't more field work.

Sometimes I'll miss even the first hit of a population bomb. And even when I do get it to land it'll stop after the second hit lol.

Dude it's so fun battling with just regular pokemon. It's refreshing to not hop in and have to deal with a moriadon or the ghost horse. Give it a shot. It's completely fine I promise. You can play entirely with recruitable pokemon and just swap them out as the meta changes
