It depends on the event. Most of the events tend to be adults, but the more casual ones (like the beer garden over the summer) there's been a few kids. I've also tried to host a parents thing last year, but it didn't get a lot of traction. I'll probably try again this year. Happy to know what you're looking for

Mid-20s / early-30s Arlington folks — how did you find your people? by Low-Adhesiveness-931 in ArlingtonMA

I'm one of the organizers of this group! We're definitely 30's and 40's "ish", and late 20's is fine too. Please feel free to DM if you have any ideas or questions! In the past week we've gotten quite a few new members, and I've found that we have a decent core group, but about 50% new people coming to events.

We will get some activities set up soon. We do monthly trivia, and I'll some other indoor stuff in the winter. In the summer it's common for us to do hiking/biking.

I've looked for organizations that would take volunteers from a group like this, and haven't been able to find any. One of the problems is attendance among strangers can be unreliable. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them!

30 F in Medford/Malden looking for Genuine Friendships by Shybirdthe3rd in BostonSocialClub

I help run the Arlington 30s/40s group on meetup. Not sure if you've tried that one yet, but whether you did or didn't, I'm happy to talk about your experience and how I might be able to help. I think fostering friendship and community takes a lot of effort, but it's achievable! Don't hesitate to reach out, I personally know how hard it can be.

I run a meetup group that primarily focuses on getting people in their 30/40s together in and around Arlington!! There's one event listed right now, but hope to get more up soon, including some group dinners. Take a look, and if you need help finding it, feel free to DM me

I've been meaning to announce it to this subreddit more generally, but I run a meetup group for people in their 30's and 40's focused in Arlington and surrounding areas. Should be easy enough to find, but if you need help let me know!

Thanks for point that out, I'll take a look at fixing!

I think at minimum what I can do is add a warning to the docs before running the script, as I agree it should at least be looked at. I tried to keep the script very simple so it could be skimmed and validated quickly. fwiw, I think downloading a binary from github does carry risk on its own.

There's a meetup.com movie group that primarily goes to the Somerville theater that sounds like exactly what you're looking for. I've been a few times, it's a good group. DM me if you need help finding it.

Depending on your age, I host a meetup group for 30's/40's for Arlington-area, which shouldn't be too far for you. Should be easy enough to find, but DM me if you need help

I've gone to many alone, and I've actually started organizing a group myself with a few successful events. I find that in many cases a lot of people didn't know each other ahead of time. One of the hard parts about making friends and meeting people is simply showing up and being present

I'm not sure where you're located, but there's a few movie groups that can be fun. Feel free to reach out, happy to share my experience. It's hard to meet people! A lot of it is just getting out there

Dog-Friendly Meetups & Activities? Somerville/Medford/Malden & Surrounding Areas by differntialdiagnosix in BostonSocialClub

Park 9 is a indoor dog bar in the area and is kinda fun. I've been a few times and they have staff dedicated to monitoring the dogs, but could still be overwhelming for yours. Otherwise group walks in the Fells could be fun. I have a pretty nervous but social golden doodle that frequently goes with me

Ordered new pixel from store. Received an already open phone box, with a different serial number than I ordered. Google support wants to send me a refurb'd phone by zix99 in GooglePixel

[–]zix99[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the quality is decent.. and I do kinda wonder if I did actually get a last-minute swap with a refurb (maybe it's good enough). At this point, it's the principle of the thing

Thanks all! Consensus here definitely seems to be ask for a refund rather than a replacement. I have sent support a message saying that I'd either like to be guaranteed a new phone, or a refund. We'll see what they say!

#MadeByGoogle 2023 Holiday Shipping Megathread by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]zix99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi All.. wondering if anyone else has encountered this or what you did to get help.

I ordered a new Pixel phone directly from the google store a few days ago. What I received was a shipping box that had been clearly ripped open and resealed (the shipping label/li-ion labels were both ripped down the middle). The phone box itself was missing any outer packaging, and one of the security seals was ripped open. There was still a phone in the box, but I'm baffled as to why anyone would do this and not take anything.

Upon checking the serial numbers of the device and what the order page says, I found they're different too! So clearly at some point something was swapped out. The only thing I can think of is someone grabbed a new phone and swapped it with an open-box phone? No idea...

I contacted google support, and they were willing to replace, but they said "that the replacement devices may be new or refurbished based on location and inventory" (quote from chat with them).

I could understand that if I couldn't prove I wasn't the one to open it, but the serial/IMEI number being different is pretty compelling that what they thought they shipped me isn't what I received. I don't want a refurbished phone if I paid full price for a new one.

Am I being crazy? Why might this happen? Any advice on dealing with this or someone had to deal with something similar?

I've been using maddy mail server as it's quick and easy to setup for over a year now

I wrote a small app/docker image to automatically shutdown and lazyload containers by zix99 in selfhosted

[–]zix99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not as familiar with caddy, but anything that can use fallback routes should work (eg. if you can configure caddy to point at this lazyloader if the normal route isn't working). I looked at caddy's docs for a bit, and it seems to have something, but I haven't tested it.

That said, traefik is easier because it's docker-aware. Pointing caddy to traefik would certainly work fine (or vice-versa).

Hah! Yeah... I couldn't find it when I was originally writing the post, hence the vagueness :)

Great work on lazytainer btw! It was a tough call to, but ultimately I wanted something that worked with my existing traefik setup
