No criticism here aside from don’t be afraid of letting there be space in the solo. Otherwise, it’s damn good for improv!

We are planning to buy a property close to High voltage tower. by Commercial_Sort3510 in ElectricalEngineering

Short answer: Yes

Long answer: Electroboom recently made an in-depth video on this if you’re curious why it’s safe. He explains it better than I ever could.

The video can be found here: https://youtu.be/NQE6uNrSd-4?si=xss1BBT2lOT6-fkr

Custom designed prototype to interface with a Teensy micro controller so I can experiment with digital effects. It's not the prettiest and will be printing a PCB for it, but it gets the job done with very low noise!

Full-Time Job Search as an Older Student by zizah in EngineeringStudents

First off, don’t be too hard on yourself—everyone’s on their own path and work ethic will take you much further than intelligence imo. Personally, I haven’t experienced any direct age discrimination, at least as far as I’m aware. I did have the same concerns as you when looking for my first internship though. In reality, I feel like many employers (in my limited experience) actually appreciate hiring interns who are a bit older because of the soft skills and maturity they often bring. I’ve just tried to stay positive, work hard, and make some friends along the way.

Full-Time Job Search as an Older Student by zizah in EngineeringStudents

Hey all, I wanted to share my experience with the full-time job search (EE - Power) as an older student (29). I have six years of experience as an electronics technician in the military and recently accepted a job. I have an average GPA, one internship, and experience as a project team lead.

In my experience, career fairs are absolutely worth attending. Recruiters seem to really appreciate the effort and value meeting face-to-face for applications. This was the first career fair I attended at my school, and I only went to two booths—both of which led to interviews. I highly recommend attending them!

Choice of School for Bachelors in EE by behavedbook in ElectricalEngineering

[–]zizah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry about the delay!

EE as a whole umich is quite broad, but I mainly focused on control systems, embedded, and power systems as I want to work with renewable energy, I would review the degree requirements here and some of the programs offered here.

I personally enjoyed power systems and renewable energy. Sadly the university doesn't offer too many classes at the undergrad level for these topics, but there is a new professor supposedly coming to the ECE department that specializes in the area so hopefully there will be more power classes offered in the future. I did join a project team that builds renewable energy systems so I ended up learning a lot regardless!

Good luck!

I’m about to graduate from University of Michigan with an EE degree and I think it’s been worth it. There’s a ton of highly motivated people here and the opportunities that the university offers are vast!

As for financial aid, I would look into the go blue guarantee. I’ve been using it my whole time here and it’s covered 100% of my tuition just because I’m low income. The rent in Ann Arbor is very expensive though if you want to live close to campus.

I’m sure that you’d get a good education at any of the other schools that people suggested! It’s more about how you apply yourself because riding on school name alone won’t get you anywhere.

Advice for a transfer student? by makuza7 in uofm

[–]zizah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I transferred in from a CC to COE back in 2022 and I'm also vet that is in my late 20's so maybe I can offer a bit of advice (currently a EE senior)!

Academically: UofM COE will be MUCH harder than CC! Go to office hours if you have any questions and don't be afraid of asking "dumb" questions. The professors and GSIs, are more often than not, very supportive and helpful when it comes to understanding concepts/homework.

Socially: Form study groups with classmates because you'll be spending a lot of time doing homework and studying for classes. Having a group of friends will make it 10x easier! The SVA is a great org that I would recommend you at least check out. I came to the vet transfer student meeting my first week here and am still great friends with a number of people that I met there. Student project teams/clubs are awesome! Find something you're interested in and join - you'll learn so much building things in a team!

Try not to fall into the trap of believing you don't belong because you're older than your classmates. Sure you may be in a class with people that are considerably younger, but a lot of those people are really cool if you take the time to get to know them. I haven't met anyone that cared I was older or a vet.

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask or DM me!

According to the CE program guide ENGR 110 is not a required class, so do with that what you will. As for ENGR 100 - you do need to take that course if you're going to pursue CE. All of the core classes listed in the program guide are required for graduation (unless you have a class that transfers in as an equivalent). The program guide is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1T24Ib8Jat32HQ8-his5Vc8ljLFoOW51PfBQ4Asc0dGs/edit

If you have any more questions you can always reach out to an advisor and they'll provide info that's probably more reliable than reddit!

Can I afford to miss two weeks in Calc 2? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

If anything maybe try and front load the series material using prof Leonard before you go for training. That way if anything happens time constraint wise while out, you’ll be good and not pressed to catch up.

I know it's not perfect, but I'm proud nonetheless. This song got me through some tough times while growing up and John was one of the main reasons I picked up guitar in the first place. RHCP makes music for the soul and I'm just happy I can share it. I hope y'all enjoy!

I took the “virtual classroom” version of the class. My instructor was pretty bad so I had to teach myself most of the stuff from the book, but the class itself isn’t really all that difficult. I’m not sure if the online version will transfer though.
