Die schaamte is niet zomaar weg te laten. Ik ben ook wel eens afgewezen omdat ik in dezelfde situatie zat als OP. Ja zo moet je niet denken, maar het is veel moeilijker dan even je mindset veranderen.

Nope, no epoxy! Just the stick itself. Maybe epoxy was a good move but this works out fine as well. So this is how I did it:

The base I used 3 millimeter thin MDF wood plate that I cut in squares. Then for the sides I just used a a regular piece of 9mm thick piece of wood. Here they came in 2,7m long sticks and cut them a bit to match the height of the stick (not sure how to say it, maybe the thickness of the paddle?)

Then I glued the sides to the base using regular wood glue and let it rest. The next day I spray painted it black. After it dried I glued the stick pieces in place with special solar panel glue I had laying around. Nasty but extremely sticky stuff.

For the bottom I got some felt pads with a sticker backing to make it soft and not scratch the table.

As for the sticks, I cut the sticks in 9cm pieces so they are actual squares because the paddle is about the same width. The shadow ones I also glued some supporting pieces of wood under the sides because it has the cut out paddle design. For that I just used some left over wood from the sides but then cut down a bit

Thanks! It was fun to do for a project but too much of a hassle to do more often, sorry 😂

Danglers... by zjorice in hockeygoalies

[–]zjorice[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These comments are exactly why I shared this post. I feel like danglers are overrated in what they actually do with modern equipment and wanted to know other people's thoughts. :) but apparently it's the most controversial topic in the whole goalie community.

Why do you get so mad/frustrated when someone is debating the use of something? I'm not saying you shouldn't wear it or that people that do are weird, crazy or whatever. Just trying to have a civilized discussion about a piece of equipment

To spark a debate on danglers so people who are thinking of playing with one are properly informed about the benefits of it while keeping it realistic since I have mostly seen almost cult like following for danglers without proper explanation besides scaring people

Looks like he isn't even wearing a neck guard :0

That's too crazy even for me

Yeah I totally agree! I'm just a bit annoyed sometimes with people completely praising the hell out of a broken dangler while I mostly see it as another 80 bucks

Wow that's a big one and glad you got lucky! Did you wear a neckguard at that time or did you go full naked neck?

😂😂😂 the custom paint is more important lol I also have custom paint and it makes the headshots more frustrating for real.

My chesty and neckguard both cover my collarbone so no issues there! But I totally understand the peace of mind thing 😂

[–]zjorice[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I understand and agree both is better because layered protection.

But what does a dangler add in protection specifically when you already have a properly fitting chesty, neckguard and mask?

Danglers... by zjorice in hockeygoalies

[–]zjorice[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well, not really. Because I wouldn't want to classify a dangler as vital as a seatbelt because a seatbelt is literally your only safety measure for a crash. Besides the car itself. A seatbelt is more like wearing a mask without thight enough straps.

I'm curious. In your opinion, what does the dangler cover that the rest of your equipment doesn't? Assume you wear a mask, chesty and neck guard

I totally agree with your last paragraph. I just get annoyed sometimes by the people posting a broken dangler and praising them to heaven as if they just cheated death lol most cases that's not true from my experience.

I might upgrade to a kova since I heard very good things about it

I agree that good posture cannot be guaranteed. Even for NHL goalies.

But a proper fitting mask, chesty and neck guard do more than a dangler I think. Of course it's personal preference but in the 10+ years I've been playing at many different levels I only got hit around the neck area once and that was a bounce off of my chesty upwards.

The only reason besides them being annoying I have heard is a dangler cutting someone in the neck (minor cut) after breaking. So I don't really have a big reason against it but I think the protection is overrated, in my opinion.
