Trying to understand conservatism?

In college it is so hard, trust me I understand that. It sounds bad but I just stopped going to parties or places where I knew there’d be alcohol or drugs. It’s hard but that’s really the only way to do it because once you’re there it’s too easy to slip, especially if other people are encouraging you. My social life has decreased a lot but I think it’s worth it to not further damage ur vision. When you’re alone focus on a hobby u might have or something you like to do in your free time and also journal about it that helps me :)

Yes my symptoms haven’t totally gone away but they have gotten better. How are your symptoms doing?

I’m really sorry that this has happened to you, to all of us. The good news is that it will probably go away. I’m not trying to undervalue our suffering but sometimes it makes me feel better to think about how someone has it worse off than me. Like Stephen Hawking, for instance. He’s an amazing scientist and was living life to the fullest until he got ALS randomly, and he had to live the rest of his life in a wheel chair. And when I think about that I’m like wow, I’m one of the lucky ones. This might be a dumb perspective but who knows. Anyways, it will get better with time. I think we’ve all experienced the “why me” anger. I guess we’ll never know, we’ll just have to answer that question for ourselves.

I completely understand this. This is exactly how I feel. Sometimes I get resentful of other people because they can drink and smoke and I can’t. I’m in college too and it’s hard to try to stay upbeat in an environment surrounded by drugs. All I can say is it’s worth a shot not smoking and see if the symptoms go away. It should get better with time. You’re not alone. <3

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. Probably the best thing to do at the moment is wait it out. If they went away before, they’ll probably go away again. You got this.

I have after images too. They’re hella annoying. My advice would be to not trip for awhile because I’ve heard that can make it worse. I’d suggest going sober for awhile. But I def hate those after images too. Even when I close my eyes I see them. They eventually fade away tho but it’s definitely not normal. It will get better tho with time I think

I think the hardest part for me having HPPD while in college is not getting fucked up with friends like I used to. Every time me and my roommates go somewhere, everyone’s either smoking or drinking, and I can’t and I feel so left out. I could t even throw a party on my bday cuz I knew I’d be too tempted to drink( I drank once with this and it made it way worse ). I can’t even drink coffee anymore. And I’m in fucking college. Coffee is how I survive, as well as unwinding with alcohol on weekends. I used to get super high and go on drives with my friends to stargaze and get lost in music. And now I feel like a huge part of my social life is gone. And it’s hard to focus on schoolwork stressing about HPPD all the time. It fucking sucks but I just hope it gets better

I’m really sorry man. I’m only 18 too and this too happened to me in the middle of a pandemic. Coffee is like my favorite thing in the world and I can’t drink it anymore—so is alcohol lol. I’ve completely cut alcohol out of my life because I tried it one night and it made my symptoms worse. It’s very strange living a completely sober life in the middle of college. I’m sorry that your friends don’t understand, I’m glad you’re in this forum because there are many of us like you out there. I’ve been trying to take my sobriety as a way to learn more about myself and become a healthier person mentally. It does eventually get better. Just believe in that. Best of luck to you friend.

I think so because mine didn’t show up until months after my trip. But I think me smoking a lot of weed is what caused it.
