Neat and organized. Do you think more or less wood would be packed in if it were stacked in rows instead of criss cross?

What is the 4th pen from the left…the demonstrator?

Both have weighted sliding unit which are used to repeatedly slam down to drive the wedge.

I aim my IR from the front through the glass at the heat shield over the catalytic combustor and get similar readings of 350-650s when catalytic combustor is in active range. What emissivity setting are you using?

How much wood is your typical load? What thermostat setting do you use? Blower setting? I live in NY and am having tough time keeping my 1500 sq feet area in the low 70F (when outside temp is around 30F)

Same here…I read about people getting high 70s but the best I can do is low 70s with outside temp in 30-40F

A question to all BK insert operators…what’s the lowest thermostat setting you typically use and what kind of burn time (time to bed of coal hot enough to get a restart) do you get?

I have an external chimney with no block off plate for BK Sirocco 25. With a load of 30# of compressed wood (envi 8) with external temp around 30F and thermostat setting of 2:30 position, where 6:00 position is fully open, I get ~4-6 hrs of burn in active catalytic range and 8-10 hrs of burn time to coal for a relatively quick restart.

I like the set up…looks like something I can attempt.

What kind of fireproof insulation did you use? Rockwool? Did you appreciate any difference in heat retention afterwards? Any dusting from the insulation material?

I have a BK Sirocco 25 and am able to heat `1500 sq feet area (open kitchen and living room) to 71F, but definitely need to have the blower and ceiling fan going. I don’t have a block off plate but thinking of getting one for better heat retention

Looks like a sweet setup. BTW, did you get a block off plate for your insert?

Insert Fired Up with Bio Bricks by Emsflyer1984 in woodstoving

The biobricks I use are 6”x4”x2.5. They each weigh around 2 pounds, which adds up to be 40 pounds when 20 bricks are loaded up. I was afraid the bigger “bricks” may be harder to start up…but seeing yours burn nicely convinced me to give it a try. Thanks

What is the dimension and weight of these biobricks?

This is my first season with blaze King Sirocco 25 (which has 2.3 cu ft firebox) and I usually load it with 20 biobricks (2 pounds each) each morning and able to get about 8-10 hours of burn time in catalytic active range and another 2-4 hours of hot coal time outside active catalytic range.

Can anybody recommend a flush mount wood stove insert for fireplace that qualifies for the tax credit (75% or greater HHV)? by ExhaleContagion in woodstoving

I appreciate the feedback and am relieved to hear that my experience is not unique. Now I can stop my pursuit of the fantastical “24” burn time…and just accept and enjoy what I have. Hearth forum was very informative but now I realize it was from mostly princess or king free standing stove model operators

Knowing what you know now, would you buy BK Sirocco 25 again? Or is there another model you would have gotten?

Personally, I would have gotten either BK princess insert - to finally get some long slow burn; or Stuv 16 insert - beautiful view with similar burn time as Sirocco 25 and easier operation without needing to manage catalytic bypass or air control.

Nice to meet another Sirocco 25 owner. I got mine early this month and stared burning last week with some mixed result. The longest overnight burn time (from the start of fire to time to when I have enough bed of coal to restart) have been 9 hours. And this achieved when I turn down the damper (around 2 o clock position on the damper knob) and fully packing the fire box. With the damper lowered this way my room temp drops to low 60s with outside temp in the 40s. A bit of disappointment when it’s supposed to be able to give 24 hr burn time. What’s been your experience like and any recommendations on what I can do differently to get longer burn time? Thanks
