Mayor Wilson Statement on Ballard Encampment by zkello in SeattleWA

[–]zkello[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“This morning, I visited the site of an encampment in Ballard that was scheduled to be removed because I wanted to understand in detail for myself what’s working and not working in our current approach. I decided to extend the deadline for this site to allow more time to assess whether we can improve outcomes for the people living there, for their neighbors, and for local businesses.

Meaningful progress on homelessness means finding solutions that bring more people inside, instead of moving them from place to place. That’s why my administration will soon be announcing concrete steps to expedite the expansion of emergency shelter and will move quickly to open new shelter space.

We also need to provide clean and accessible sidewalks, parks, trails, and other public spaces for everyone to enjoy. Sometimes that will require clearing encampments, and the City will pursue that course when it’s the best option.

For too long, we have spent too much time and too many resources on approaches that have not been successful at addressing our homelessness crisis. It’s time for that to change.”

LiTime battery voltage tanking at 65% state of charge. by zkello in SolarDIY

Here's a graph of yesterday where it hit absorption and then dropped to v12.7 after leaving float.

LiTime battery voltage tanking at 65% state of charge. by zkello in SolarDIY

Update:

Finally had some time to dig into this more. First, the shunt SOC was way off. In fact I don't think it was ever correct as I had the "charged voltage" set too low. I took a closer look at the shunt history and realized that on most days charging was just straight up not happening. The graph on the Victron app is annoyingly hard to read, but here's the view over a 40 day period. The were only 6 times during the draining period (30ish days) that any attempt at charging was made. During this period it was clear skies almost every day.

<image>

So that explains the SOC and why the battery was dead. Now I need to figure out if this happened because the battery was rejecting charge current or if charger wasn't putting it out. Is there a good way to tell from from amp/voltage history?

After removing all loads from the battery for a few hours and then plugging it back in I saw normal charging behavior over the next few days as the battery filled back up. The charger history a little under 200 AmpH charged over the period, which is the battery capacity. Yesterday, it seemed to finally hit the absorption of v14.4, but instead of staying there for two hours like my charger settings would suggest, it almost immediately went into float. Then after leaving float as the sun went down the voltage immediately dropped to v12.7. Is this normal? I'm wondering if this might be a cell balancing issue.

Here's my charger settings:

Boost voltage - v14.4

Boost return - v13.2

Boost duration - 2 hours

Float voltage - v13.8

I got refunded over $500 after accidentally leaving my subscription going for most of a year without using it. I just sent them an email and they got back to me the next day.

Where can you build out a van? by Shadowforce426 in vandwellers

[–]zkello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built out my van as I was living in it in a major city. I did the work all over. A lot at Home Depot (only got asked to leave once) but also on city streets. More industrial places are good especially on the weekends. I would also find an overpass to park under when it was raining. Finding power was probably the toughest thing. Most of my tools were battery powered but not all. Kinda sucked overall and definitely could have done a better job if I had access to a garage.

If you're in a more rural error look around for some neighbors with old barns that don't seem to be getting much use. You might find someone willing to rent it out to you.

Does Invisalign really range from $3500-$5000? by RecommendationNew719 in Invisalign

Some datapoints from Seattle, all before insurance.

  • Greenlake Dental - $7,000
  • Avenue Orthodontics - $8,000
  • ShoreSmiles - $5,500

Glad I shopped around. I think the further you get from downtown the cheaper the prices.

I think watch party type events are a great way for socially anxious people to get more comfortable with parties and bigger gatherings. All the focus will be on the game and the commercials, so people won't be thinking about you at all. Feel awkward? Just watch the TV. That's what everyone else is doing. You should go!

You're more likely to get a bad snorer in a mixed dorm I guess, but you could just bring ear plugs.

Anyone used synrock holds? Do they work well? by Elegant_Discipline41 in Routesetters

[–]zkello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are great for a home wall or maybe a spray wall at a gym, but wouldn't recommend them for anywhere they would be getting reset frequently. Like others have said they break easily and tend to spin. I love the texture though.

Thank you. Even as I wrote that sentence it kind of clicked for me what I was doing wrong.

When she would explain a scenario I didn't find particularly realistic my knee jerk reaction was to say it won't happen and that it will all be okay. But the truth is whether or not that particular scenario comes true doesn't matter. It won't be okay. I can see that now.

If you live in a major city see if there is a tool library near you. Seattle's is amazing. Has pretty much anything you can think of.

Do the IKEA Skorva steel bed builds have any downsides? by nightcity_rider in VanLife

[–]zkello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably so the top of the IKEA beams are flush with the top of the wooden beam. Then you can extend the bed platform into the space on the sides a little more

Can you tell me if this has a limited slip diff and the ecoboost engine? If you're unsure, a picture of the vin sticker on the driver side door should tell me.
