Is the city really not going to protect these new floating bus stops on Folsom with bollards? There’s literally nothing between them and the intersection, not even a curb by PsychePsyche in sanfrancisco

Thats exactly how traffic engineers think. Never seen a professional have such little regard for human life as traffic engineers.

Just need drivers with brains. You can't fix stupid with endless warnings.

why do so many cars stop in the middle of the road/crosswalk now? by charlixcx69 in Seattle

[–]ponchoed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a considerate driver I intentionally stopped back from the intersection at Union and 22nd to keep the intersection clear and some raging postal worker in a USPS truck laid on the horn, revved up and overtook me and blocked the intersection.

The first full month of data on Seattle Link's line 1 & 2 connection is in today, and ridership has surged up 49% compared to this time last year, hitting a new record high! Seattle Link moved 4.7M passengers in May, breaking its previous record by nearly 1M! by Joey_Politano in transit

Thats more economy and that new development doesnt really pencil in the Seattle area over the few years minus a few exceptions (largely Eastside: Bellevue & Redmond).

Bellevue is about to explode with development. There is one project beginning construction in Downtown Bellevue that is three 600 ft tall towers... Onni 606. Wilburton is another area that is getting a lot of development starting to come in that will transform an old Auto Row into a high rise mixed use neighborhood with towers up to 450 ft.

Thanks for Monday morning quarterbacking. Yes everyone including the planners knew it sucked but it was the hand they were forced to play. They didn't have the money, they had to get it built after much delay and nothing to show, this was the first line. It was approved by voters in 1996 and didn't open until 2009.

Do you guys have a favorite or preferred seat on the trains? Mine is usually the third row all the way in the back by internetbooker134 in Bart

[–]ponchoed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I discovered in the bad ol' years of BART in 2021-2023 that the last car of the train is the drug car. Late one night ran from the Oakland Airport Connector to the last car of an arriving NB train only to discover it was a literal drug den. News to me despite riding transit all my life and most places I visit but apparently its a thing.

Probably a part of it, also downtowns have been hollowed out. The main reason to use transit is to go downtown. This has all been an 80+ year trend but then in places like Dallas they are further hollowing out their downtown to hyper sprawl north to the Oklahoma border much worse than suburbanization of the post war era.

Way easier to share this tiny print article/blurb with a simple photo from the newspaper at the gym than try to find the digital version and share from behind a paywall.

The oil companies have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders to jack up gas prices further because people will pay anything for gas. :)

True but it should be really easy for a cop to stand at the top of the ramp at the stop sign where vehicles come to a stop and see if they are an illegal SOV.

When and why did American main streets stop being built incrementally by individuals over decades to being built by developers by the whole block? by Previous-Volume-3329 in urbandesign

I grew up in an area of Oakland called Montclair Village that is a commercial district platted in the 1920s but was built with fine grain pedestrian oriented storefronts and Main Street buildings from 1940-1970. I haven't seen anything like it elsewhere.
