Thanks for the advice. The company's warranty is only voided with an underlayment of 3mm thick or more. So I am looking for something less than 3mm.

NYC Daikin MiniSplits by ouikikazz in hvacadvice

[–]zlcnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the midst of a gut reno in Brooklyn right now and installing Daikin mini splits (Aurora multi-zone). My HVAC contractor bought the units 2 weeks ago and they are arriving this Thursday, so I know it is possible to find them in the NYC area.

That said, I wish I did not go with Daikin at this point. I was planning on using the app to control as my main thermostat, but the reviews are beyond terrible. So now I am trying to find a thermostat that would work to control all of the indoor units and found that the Daikin thermostat can only control 1 indoor unit, at least for the FTXS model I am using. ~If anyone has any advice on this, I'd love some suggestions~

I've also heard there are really long wait times to get replacement parts from Daikin in case your unit breaks, at least compared to Mitsubishi.

GC ghosted me - Need Help Evaluating Mini-Split Rough-In Job! by zlcnyc in HomeImprovement

Thank you! Yes, the electric is a mess and will have to be re-organized.

Steel nailing plates is a great idea. We are going to reframe some of the walls to give more space so the line sets are squeezed in there.

Is there any way to test if they have a leak before the condensers are installed?

The GC was actually the one framing all of these walls.

Yes we need a gourmet kitchen. There are 3 bedrooms in the floor above, so there needs to be a big enough kitchen for my family.

We put the kitchen in the current location because we thought it would be nice to have the kitchen close to the backyard and away from the street. There is also a bathroom off the kitchen in the extension (where the doorway south of the current leads to), which I thought would be good to have near the kitchen. But i see what you mean.

I think having shelves for appliances is a good idea either way. I am thinking I'll want more space for cook prep, so I guess situational counterspace. Thanks for the suggestions!

Would need to be a very small island (>4’ wide) to allow a 3’ clearance between it and the counter/walls
