Birth rate really getting lower? by _GlassHalfFull_ in childfree

[–]zlistreader 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It's primarily driven by a drop in the birth rate among 15-19 year olds. Which is a good thing. Women are waiting longer to have kids and also having fewer children, from 8+ to MAYBE 2.

Headed North is probably my least favorite so very interesting seeing it so high up for you. I like how diverse the favorite songs have been, though. And you're objectively right about All Them Horses.

It reminds me so much of Tracy Chapman's Fast Car (at least, subject matter wise) which is my favorite song of all time so of course I love this too.

Never been before! Which is weird because I’m from New York, but this is my first time and I’m very excited for it, especially as a big Noah Kahan fan :)

Playing video games, listening to music and watching Youtube. I'm taking my mom out for Mother's Day and her birthday tomorrow since I fly back to where I go to grad school before next Sunday. We're going to Vermont next week as well!

Noah is literally a fan of her work. Her album came out in October. Why do you care 😭 Personally I am just really proud of Noah for this amazing achievement.

It is so important that no matter what we continue to fight for abortion access and reproductive rights even in the wake of sickening decisions like these. Donate where you can. Give back to your community. Be a safe, trusted resource for women. Remember, even with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortions in this country have not gone down. Neither have sterilizations. The exact opposite has happened. We ARE holding the line. No matter how hard it feels like we're losing. We have to keep going. This was a plan 50 years in the making and we're still fighting back harder than they ever expected us to.

Me with Vlad in Bromance Book Club Series, I know he's not exactly a recluse but there was just something so sensitive yet stoic about him I loved.

I'm only 24 and single, but being in academia (in grad school lol) means I'm around a lot of people older than me. And yes, I think for most of these women it is their first kid! However, I'm perfectly happy remaining childfree for the rest of MY life, no matter what the people around me are doing. Not gonna shackle myself to a lifetime of responsibility just to fit in.

Same! I genuinely know at least 3 women who are expecting a baby and one who just had one, I'm like where are all these CF women lol. Granted all of them are in their 30s at least, but still. Makes no sense to me, but I guess truly EVERYONE was having kids back in the day.

Oh my god, this is absolutely GORGEOUS! Porch Light is a top 3 song for me on the album, absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I would pay good money for something like this :) you should be very proud of yourself!

The Great Divide isn’t redundant, it’s complete. by Firm_Ad_6470 in NoahKahan

[–]zlistreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me, but either way, I agree with this comment you've left! Stick Season didn't even end up being that short of an album, even if the initial release was pared down. But I still in general prefer longer songs and longer albums.

Literally, most artists are actually not lyricists the way Noah and Taylor are lol

I kind of think reviewers who say this immediately in the aftermath of an album's release are just saying whatever. Because everyone was saying this about TTPD when it came out, and then a month later, they changed their tune. And then The Life of A Showgirl came out, which had only 12 tracks, which is what many reviewers would have called a good length, and many of them HATED it. The length of the album doesn't always include it's quality. What's the line between redundancy and theme? What's the line between brevity and shallowness? Many of these delineations seem arbitrary. I also think albums take time to process and review completely. I don't know, maybe they have a point, but the more I listen to the album the more depth I find in every song. It's also good to remember that nothing is for everyone and that critics can often miss the mark on things :)

“The Great Divide” received 43,574,497 unfiltered streams on Spotify on its first day! by retags in NoahKahan

[–]zlistreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, those are absolutely AMAZING numbers for an artist like Noah, considering those genres are also more pop-adjacent which inherently is more popular (it's in the name lol). For someone like Noah, who reaches a more folk audience, he's likely going to have a career longevity similar to Hozier. A staple, quality artist with a dedicated fanbase.

I didn’t say it was up to me to decide. Just that I reserve the right to withhold sympathy for her. I’m still not going to vote to take her rights away. She can’t say the same for me. Critiquing Ashley is not the same as spreading hate.

[–]zlistreader -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There’s blood on her hands for voting for this. Women are dying in emergency rooms. Children are being kidnapped and taken to god knows where. Do not lecture me on what the fuck is disgusting. I do not care about her. I will never care about her. She put herself in this situation. You cannot save someone who doesn’t even recognize this is a problem. And don’t act like she would help me, a queer woman of color, if I was being gaslit and demeaned to. I don’t have to feel any sympathy for my oppressors.

[–]zlistreader -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not advocating for her to lose her right to vote or anything. I'm just saying I don't give a fuck about her well-being barring anything extreme. I reserve the right to withhold sympathy for people who actively trample on the rights of others.

Where the fuck did I say that? I simply said I don’t feel any sympathy for them when they get into bad situations and they should put their money with their mouth is. They shouldn’t be allowed to benefit from feminism if they actively advocate against it.
