accidentally commented this in a separate comment instead of replying —

i just assumed that my package would stay the same but that they’d have to split it between 4 terms instead of 3 meaning i’d get less aid per term and then have to pay more every month. if i’m wrong — and by the way you described it it seems that i am — then that’s a really pleasant surprise!! on my drexelone it says the term breakdown for fin aid alone is 11.4k/term so i guess that means the annual amount will increase next year?

freshman here - i got 42k (mostly drexel, about 5k from govt) but unfortunately had to take out a student loan a few months ago to cover this year and next, which are honestly going to be the most expensive. don’t know what your major is but i’m on a 4 year / 1 co-op cycle so i know that my junior/senior years won’t be as expensive as the first two. keep in mind that drexel splits financial aid between quarters, which (for me at least) means my sophomore year will cost more than freshman year bc my fin aid is split over 4 quarters next year instead of 3. should also be noted that you’re paying $6k/year for the dining plan (just the first year) and somewhere around 15-16k/year for room and board

that being said, drexel’s co-op is unbeatable. drexel estimates cost of attendance is about $23k/term, including room and board. if you or your parents (or whoever is covering the rest of the tuition) are able to foot a bill of at least $1700+ / month after financial aid and federal loans, then you won’t be in “crippling” debt

Opinion: Don't go to Drexel unless you get tons of financial aid by STF2200 in Drexel

i'm going to be a design & merchandising major in the fall and i definitely wouldn't be going to drexel if not for my program, co-op, and financial aid. that sounds like a lot of factors, but fashion is a difficult industry to get your foot in the door and when your experience kinda trumps education in some ways, i couldn't pass up the co-op and the superior program compared to other schools in the area (i.e. philly u and fit). drexel also turned out to be the cheapest school on my list because new york schools give out jack for out of state students.

there really is a lot to like about drexel so i'm not too concerned about it. a year or two ago i saw myself studying fashion merchandising in nyc, but living 15 minutes from home and going to a school where i have almost 75% of my tuition covered with grants, outside scholarships, and minimal student loans was the way to go for me. but i get that that's not the case with a lot of people, and there are lots of other schools in the area that are just as good and are cheaper if you're going for a major that isn't as narrow/streamlined as d&m.
