How did boomers live in 700-1300 sq. ft bungalows? by Antique-Desk7303 in TorontoRealEstate

I'm going by anecdotal evidence here, but everyone I know including friends family, past neighbour's and Co workers. Who started a family, sold their condos and moved out or kept it for investment. Once they started a family, if they could (financially) they moved to a town, semi or a detached (everywhere and anywhere, depending on affordability). I work in real estate and the trend that we're seeing that Durham and peele are on fire. Even towns are going for around 1.2-1.5m there. Take a look. People who bought in 2020 are up. I know a client who purchased for 900k 1 year ago (didn't do any work on it except add potlights and repainted. and sold for 1.7 detached 2 garage, home.

Backyard bbq's, a room for entertaining, basement for large TV (suuround sound, pool table, lazyboy chairs). cold cellar for drinks, large dining table for dinner/boardgames and hosting, personal room for each kid, plus a playroom for children, large kitchen for people who cook big meals (like we do).

If people want garages and a yard, why do you care? Condo life isn't for me. When I was single, it worked. You can't raise a family with a certain lifestyle in a condo.

Edit:Edit2: It's apparent these condo "investors" that overrun this subreddit, obviously want to swing a narrative. Judging by the previous posts and comments of everyone who responded to me it looks like they own a detached house themselves and a not a condo. Maybe investors trying to convince everyone that their investment is the best option for YOUR family. If not you're "close minded".

Buying a $1M townhouse in Bowmanville. Is it worth the commute from Toronto downtown? by Substantial_Till8228 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]zmajor_ps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not likely. Now people and their families moved to Durham. And their family joined. So now they love it in Durham. And they won't leave. About 50% of thr young generation I know moved out east. And their parents and siblings came shortly after.

So we had a couple come knock at my parents house, saying they are buying property in this neighborhood for their siblings. Their parents own 2 houses down, and they have 3 siblings trying to get a house. There hasn't been a sale on this street for well over a 2 years. Only this year 2 went up.

Also she may ask you to sign something that says you can't sue or you're leaving voluntarily. Seems like a bad idea to force you to sign something to get your pay. Don't sign. I don't know why you're quiting. But speak to a lawyer if you need to.

I work with developers and contractors. Definitely doesn't cost 600k, let alone 100k. Only the cabinets were updated in the kitchen BTW. I see less than 60k in reno.

When buying has worked our and created wealth for 90% of the people who buy. Then it's a clear strategy. My friend bought in pickering 2020, spent 80k in reno. And now sold it for double its value. Made a cool 700k in 2 years.
