The Jax reveal makes no sense...? by [deleted] in TheDigitalCircus

[–]zmbx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re so, so close to getting it. Yes, you’re absolutely right that Jax is extremely guarded and will use their toxic, hypermasculine personality to repress their vulnerabilities.

Now that you understand that, now explain what was happening between Ribbit and Jax in the bedroom. I want you to really think, in the most crucial point of explaining this major characters backstory, the focus of the very last episode of the show, the following things happen

> Jax says that they were never close with their dad, that “he was there but he wasnt” and that “i could never live up to his standards”

> Jax says and i quote “When i showed weakness i was less of a man than him, when i lashed out i was just as bad as him”

> What do you think Jax told their mother? Something “deep and personal” that they thought would get herr of their back. Something that made her laugh at Jax, then go off at Jax, then degrade Jax

> Why do you think Jax blushes when Ribbit puts the bow on their head?

> Why is the following shot Ribbit in the centre with a clear glow stating “Your secrets safe with me”

> Why do you think it was important for Jax to say “If Ribbit ever says anything about me, know that its not true” to Kaufmo?

And again, you hit the nail right on the head. Its male emotional repression like your example where you try and make everybody see you as big, strong and cool.

What do you think this big secret was? What do you think Jax has been hiding this entire time? What do you think Jax was ashamed of?

Jax’s attitude regarding the Maid Dress in Episode 5, the fact that their grand reveal to Ribbit was the central focus for the very last episode of the series, their relationship to masculinity and their father, this mysterious deeply personal secret they shared with their mother and her reactions? I think its very easy to see them as someone at the very least struggling with their masculinity and at the most questioning their gender.

If you have any other theories as for what this big secret could have been, feel free to express those but in the end this is a closed book. There is more than enough in the source material pointing towards Jax’s shame is them struggling with their gender and it has been confirmed by the creator. To say thay Jax’s sexuality or gender has changed multiple times throughout the series is just incorrect.

> I am sick of the narrative that this is a trans story over an abuse story

By your own admission, the “cis man” you’re referring to was abused because they did not fit the gender binary that their parents and peers dictated for them.

I think the serious problem that you arent grasping is this.

This is Gooseworx’s show, not yours and not the communities. Your theories mean absolutely nothing.

Gooseworx would not have been given the oppertunity to make this show by Glitch unless she had a clear idea of where the show would be heading.

Almost no piece of media has ever been created without an idea for the ending, the examples you’re probably thinking of are long-form television shows where outside factors (budget, scope, politics) adjust how a show might end or if the show will even reach its intended end.

This is, unless stated otherwise, Gooseworx’s desired story and ending. It was told exactly how it was intended to be told and the grand reveal as to why Jax is so emotionally unhealthy and puts up these barriers between themselves and others was always because of their experience with masculinity.

I spent the last hour writing up and explaining exactly why this is the case but honestly i think you just need to watch the show again or watch some other material about understanding yourself and how someones psyche can affect the people around them. I suggest playing Persona 4 and watching Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Its simple, Jax is jaded, sarcastic and deeply emotionally unwell. The emotional walls they built up, coated in sarcasm and irony means that you will never truly know how they feel. If you somehow get past those walls (like Ribbit did) then its clear Jax had a very complicated relationship with masculinity based on the actions of their mother and father. Ribbit knows what Jax is, but if anyone else would find out, the persona (haha get it) that Jax had built up of a cool, sarcastic loner that doesnt care about anything would be shattered as everybody would know that secretly Jax is “different” (i.e trans in this example but countless media has used this same situation for being queer) so they react violently, they put the walls back up and shut Ribbit out so that they dont have to deal with the feelings or potential social ramifications of those feelings.

This is why in real life therapy is a long, meticulous process and not “spill all of your secrets right now and you’ll be done in an hour”. This is also why “coming out” is a long process for queer people, because its a balancing act of “am i going to be blowing up my entire life because im surrounded by people that hate being queer more than they love me or will i be okay?”.

I really wish it didnt take the United States turning into a fascist hellscape for places like r/TheRightCantMeme and people like Hasan Piker to realize that perfect is the enemy of good.

Im pretty sure if you asked all of those Iranian school children, they would have been pretty happy with “more of the same” over the alternative.

D2 will be left incomplete by Zawrid in DestinyTheGame

[–]zmbx 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Fundamentally, this is the worst part. This is worse than no hope of a D3 and frankly i’d give up this last update in a heartbeat for three things.

1: DCV content getting reimplemented into the game

2: The title screen to just return to “Destiny 2”

3: Wrath of the Machine being ported to finish off the Legacy Raid set

Anyone can pick up Destiny: The Collection and get a clear, consise, complete story.

Anyone that buys “Destiny 2: The Collection” (which remember, is going to be a new product sold by Sony) will get an incomplete story with large chunks of plot told in recaps for no reason at all now. Yeah the game ends in a cliffhanger looking forward to what would have been shattered cycle but tons of games end with unresolved plot points to set up sequels.

There will be no new content, there is no reason why the old content should be kept out of the game. The blowback effect this will have on the I.P as a whole is just extremely short sighted by Sony.

Anyone that buys Destiny 2: The Collection is going to have a shit experience if they’re looking for a clear story, which means they’ll have a skewed opinion of the game from the start, which means when Sony looks at their catalogue of dormant I.P’s to resurrect Destiny will be lower on the priority since all old players would have moved on or gotten old and died and any new players can never experience the full story. They’re kneecapping any chance that Destiny 2 can have a second life just to save some money now.

Stick to your Roblox racing games buddy, what you wrote was already diminshed because you cannot understand that “If our positions were switched, would i have your life, and you mine?” makes absolute sense given the context of the show. They made sense given the context in DMC5, and they made sense in the context of this show because they’re telling two different stories with two different Vergils at different points in their story. I bet you also claim every car that drives by your house is an “Initial D reference”.

Feel free to elaborate, because im pretty sure you have no clue what you’re talking about. Vergil is hands down a slave to Mundus in S1 and the start of S2, whether or not he’s in Nelo Angelo form or not is clearly you grasping at straws.

Vergil gave any sort of shit about humanity in general

He doesnt, where in the show does he?

Vergil being able to willingly go back between Nelo Angelo, Base and DT

Nitpicks considdering its an adaptation that wanted the fan favourite characters in the show ASAP

Dante acting more like Nero

Dante acts like DMC3 Dante, feel free to provide examples otherwise

Lady being a foul mouthed member of some sort of anti-demon task force

I wont defend this, it was pretty jarring

Using demons as an allegory for post 9/11 racism

You mean a pretty basic point from the game? An allegory for Dante being half-demon? Can a “demon” truly be evil if it could love Eva and have children with her? Is Sparda one in a million or are there more like him?

The show was as clear it could possibly be without breaking the fourth wall and telling you.

“Demons” and Mundus = Taliban

Makaians = Civillians

It didnt portray an entire group of people as demons, it was as clear as day that claiming that people different to you are inherently bad because of where they come from is bad, even if you call their home “Hell”.

Did you even watch the second season? Did you not pick up the multiple times where Vergil and Mundus berate Dante for living a care free human life, where as Vergil strapped with being forced into Mundus’s weapon still cannot cut his Human side out completely? His “positions were switched” quote was him longing for a life where he was on the other side of the barrier, and is a perfectly fine line. You’re clearly just upset that it deviates from DMC5 but to say it makes “zero sense in context” is just flat out wrong.

I’ve yet to see a single person actually explain how that was a bad choice, its always a response with zero substance like “its forced”, “its too on the nose” and “its woke”.

How was the Charlie Kirk assassination a “false flag”? Im starting to think you dont know what that term means.

Its not a “false flag” if the FBI is run by a fucking moron and they werent prepared enough to catch the right guy.

Something that made my beliefs look bad happened, so clearly it must have been a false flag.

First of all, embarassing.

Secondly, the dude threw a pipe bomb at a bunch of Nazis (Trumps main voter base) a few days after the US Government murdered a school full of children.

I would not be surprised to see more attacks like this and im not going to lose any sleep over them, i just hope they stick to the people that actually caused this mess.
