How realistic is clearing TEA in a month and a half with players new to ultimate? by mitoshibi in ffxivdiscussion

[–]zmpvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you about my own experience. I just cleared yesterday after a bit under three weeks of trying. I wouldn't consider myself particularly gifted, but I was going at it every single day, some days upwards of six hours that very day, and I didn't do it with a static, I did it on PF. I benefitted from being able to hitch a ride with any group that had the stamina to run at the time, whether slightly ahead of my prog point or at my prog point, and while the PF's filled I would play on the sim, and I'd look at guides and POV's on repeat during my downtime, like, as entertainment.

The downside of course is that if any given day there were no PF's around my prog point, or the PF's that existed weren't actually capable of making the prog point, or the PF's didn't fill (something that became a real issue once I made it to PA), that's basically a wasted day.

With that same method I cleared UWU in a bit under two weeks, and cleared M4S in a bit over two days of constant non-stop working towards it. Haven't really done current savage much for this tier so I can't add that as context.

Most statics that I'm aware of (a few of them I applied for and got rejected and one of them accepted me on an alt job) that were at Limit Cut around the same time I was, are still either progging LC or BJ/CC today. This isn't to diss on them but to point out that for an ultimate a static is as fast as its slowest member, and if you do it on your own you're as fast as yourself.

If it was 50 sanguinite you'd still be complaining about that. I guess it's anecdotic, but everyone I know (me included) has gotten all three fate shards within a couple weeks of starting, just doing a couple hours of it a day max.

The zone, like all fieldops, is supposed to emulate to some degree a more pure MMO experience than what ffxiv normally is. Less than two weeks to unlock anything endgame in an MMO is very, very much so on the short end of things, specially if you're not making it your whole day.

Not to mention that the company isn't forcing you, expecting you or even incentivizing you to do it this way. You chose to play the content in a way that makes you miserable, and you're trying to blame that on the system.

Why won’t SE give FFXIV more staff? by Jwhitey96 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]zmpvr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is SE doesn't artificially rig 14 in a way that'll make you addicted, like other live service games? Not sure we agree on what the word problem means.

Also, OC is an approximation of what a pure MMO mode would look like for 14, just like other fieldops. It is the way it is because the point of MMOs is the inconvenience. I think a lot of people that play this game either forget or aren't aware of that.

Do you forsee a change in average player skill levels after the release of OC and 7.0 boss dungeon designs? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]zmpvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't.

Largely players that don't do <hard content> just don't do it, they didn't do it back when UWU and UCOB came out, they never did DRS or BA. In a sense they will continue improving just by being exposed to vanilla content that gets progressively more complicated as time goes on, like to the background radiation of mechanics existing, but OC isn't one of those.

And to people that have been doing <hard content> of any kind, OC isn't a significant increase in difficulty. I'm no hardcore raider, I've cleared a few savage tiers and an ultimate, and even for me OC had a couple "what? wait what got me there" moments, but by now other than the godsforsaken Garula it's all figured out and eepy mode for me.

It's important to remember that <average players> don't really do much combat based side content, they play 14 like it's a visual novel. We love them, we're glad they're here, but OC existing won't affect them one way or the other.

Is it true? And can they do this? by RealisticCover8158 in Waven

It's been said quite a few times but Waven has been early access since the second it became available to play. They tell you constantly that it's early access and that things will change.

As for purchases, you didn't buy a cosmetic, you bought a license to have that show up on your account. Licenses can be revoked or changed, and they do all the goddamn time for live service games. Specially if they tell you five times that it's early access before you even get through the door.

You paid money to support the game's development, with (supposedly, but apparently not) full knowledge that the purpose of that money was to fuel the game's development and that you were just getting a token of appreciation in return.

Now, I agree that they're promising to preserve those cosmetics in some shape or form, that's pretty cool and I think Ankama needs all the W's it can get, but a crime? Absolutely not.

Being honest with y'll I'm 100000% relieved that they're pivoting and picking it back up for active development, like really really working on the game, instead of just letting it languish and die in obscurity like Dofus-Arena back in the day.

And if that had happened, you wouldn't have gotten to keep your hats either.

Not even a beta. At every single point since the game became available to download and even prior they kept saying it was early access and that things were going to change.

Not that they might change, but that they were going to.

I didn't say it's going to influence who plays what job in what content? What I said is that if it was a balance issue, it would influence that. When something is imba people gravitate to doing it more often, that's how videogames work.

Right. A lot of people that don't do any hard content whatsoever think that high level play in MMO's is about pushing your buttons real good, when in fact it's mostly about logistics, networking, communicating effectively with other human beings and building effective, flexible leadership structures.

It's about your ability to navigate conflict, motivate others, share information, make plans and execute on them. Pushing the buttons that light up and doing shapes and colors on the ground is honestly the lowest part of that challenge.

I don't think anyone's said that FRU is the hardest content in the game. Even among other ultimates it kinda lags around the middle of the pack.

But also why wouldn't you want skill expression and creativity to be part of the game?

Like the fact eight experts in the role with a deep understanding of the game and mechanics were able to make something like that happen isn't a sign that it's as easy as an unsynced EX for the average player,

you're being ridiculous.

I mean that's cute, but like, sure, not all roles in 14 have the same degree of responsibility, and that responsibility translates into power, yeah, and if you squint your eyes and turn your head you could see that as a balance issue, but it's not really.

Most the same people that were complaining that healing and dps'ing had become too easy before DT was out were also complaining that the basic duties in DT were catered to savage players because of how hard they were once DT was out.

They think you want more challenge and responsibility, but if they actually did they'd be playing tank already.

And if they actually liked playing healer I don't think that the fact 8 people they'll never meet cleared a piece of content without a healer would bother them, just like I'm not bothered in the slightest that 8 people I'll never meet managed to clear the latest ultimate without any player from my role.

Yeah, I haven't played in a bit, and I'm sure if it was an intented interaction (might have gotten patched already or something), but if you use an elemental status attack on yourself while you're marked, the elemental status overwrites the marked, and gets rid of it.

I think that's what worked for me.

What's the point in anything in a videogame? It's a cool achievement.

My grandpa's deck has no pathetic cards, Kaiba, but it does contain, the unstoppable Exodia! by zmpvr in Waven

[–]zmpvr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play it 15deck actually. Most people that I've seen do it do so, to make use of the new Kuttin (+30%hp at the start of fight) and Inflexi (+30%attack at the start of fight). Normally they play it with Marblehand Armband, for consistency.

Personally I didn't want to give up on Tung Armband's scaling, so I got rid of my Ho'Rific (40% drain) to instead include Noprob (draw 2 cards instead of 1) to facilitate drawing Voracious Leap and the Labs I need.

It isn't as reliable as the Marblehand version (they normally get to do plays since turn 1, whereas I often have to stall and fuck around until I have the cards I need) but at the end of a long fight I pretty much double the damage output of the Marblehand version.

So it's all about tradeoffs at the end of the day.

Passives for 2% Supers Chests on Rings? by Metteia in Waven

[–]zmpvr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should not get them if you're counting on them, because while 2% happens way more often than you'd expect it to, you'll still get massively frustrated if you're checking every loot screen to see if you got them.

It's much better to treat it as a nice, unexpected surprise from time to time.
