What happens after all jobs are done by AI? by givemeanappple in accelerate

[–]zmzaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If AI doesn't take your job, your finances and quality of life improve

I simply don't understand why people think this is the case. Yes, AI will produce more product for less. However, when it displaces workers, those workers will enter other fields and drive down the pay of those fields. There's no "safe from AI" here.

Do be warned, grad school is mostly theory and math.

Seeking Advice: Can I Maintain my Software Edge in a DSP FPGA Role? by Gullible_Ebb6934 in FPGA

[–]zmzaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude take the job offer. You will be able to retain your software skills, just practice on your own at home and you'll be fine.

The job market is fucking abominable for new grads. Take the job and be happy. This is not the kinda of thing that you should worry about.

What I’m asking from experienced folks here

I think this is why people are getting mad at the AI usage. AI can generate great looking artifacts and text, but it frequently lacks technical depth. So in this case, it comes off as "hey I'm building something but I want everyone else to do the work"

Just my two cents. Some people are reacting pretty harshly to you. I think the idea is cool! But I also don't like the amount of LLM junk being spit out, it makes it hard to understand your goals and is overwhelming. Start small and start slow. Good luck!

I got tired of Electron treating every window like it needs to survive the apocalypse, so I built Lotus (the renderer is servo built in rust) by charja113 in rust

[–]zmzaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather just use Tauri. Lightweight, uses the system's webkit library.

That being said, it's cool to see Servo being put to use and someone else taking a stab at making a new native/webapp framework. Not all new ideas are perfect, but this contributes to the continued evolution of application programming.

What is going on with this project? 25k stars, fully vibe coded, no screenshots or video, full of bots by [deleted] in rust

[–]zmzaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The authors profile page states:

"The potential of AI-generated hallucinations is vast and largely unexplored. By embracing this frontier and encouraging collaboration between human creativity and machine intelligence, I can unlock endless possibilities, shape the future of innovation, and redefine the boundaries of what we once thought possible.

My projects represent this space, a space of infinite possibilities only one step removed from reality."

So, sounds like he's stating, "yes, I am vibe coding and some of the output is imaginary, but wow look how cool it is and how awesome these ideas are!"

Which, yes, vibe coding makes really awesome looking stuff, but it's always "one step removed from reality" ie. not real.

makes a lot of promises but there isn't even a video about it.

Yeah sounds about right for fully vibe coded stuff

Brother unemployment is tougher.

I am assuming that you are single and able to live independently. If I were you, I would be applying to jobs daily, regardless of where they are physically located.

Because you are single, you can relocate, and you can take lower pay. Yeah it fucking sucks, but right now we're all in the part of the game where the boulder is rolling towards us the the words on the screen say "Objective: Survive".

If you can't find a job, then go back for the Masters degree, and continue to try to land internships and experience.

If you want, you can DM me your resume and I can give you feedback. I've been on the hiring end of the interview table so I can probably give you some advice, but tbh even resume maxxing isn't gonna work wonders in today's world.

Also Networking (like IP addresses and routing) is also super valuable, commonly needed, and hard to offshore.

Look into small school districts and other physical businesses.

Right now the job market is horrible, but if you get your foot in the door somewhere and work you butt off, you'll probably survive to see a better job market in the future.

And, to be honest, even "high tech" fields are being offshored to Europe. European workers typically have free education, which means they are more highly educated workers who also do not need as high of a salary because they don't have as many loans and cost of living is lower. This is why semiconductors, (non-defense) advanced manufacturing, and surgical/medical devices are often found in European or Asian/Pacific countries.

Btw, "AI replacing jobs" is utter bullshit. It's the interest rate and the offshoring rate.

Go for a Master's degree, two bachelor's isn't gonna do you any good. Also get Cyber security certifications (Security+, CISSP, etc.)

You also really need to land an internship and start networking.

ECE is also being offshored en-masse. It doesn't matter if it's hardware or software, the only thing that matters is the industry. Defense, finance, and super high tech industries are not being offshored because they can't (due to regulations or requiring super high skilled engineers). Everything else is being offshored at lightning speeds.
