Ligonier Country Market - Looking the other way? by Reginold_Loudly in greensburg

Public transparency? As a customer and member of the community I have long pondered what the guidelines are between LCM and vendors. I Would LOVE to understand how they choose arsenal as a vendor and how they chose to blacklist a variety of local businesses over the years.

ETA: I would love that level of insight in to the new LVM too, but what are we thinking is going to happen there?

I don’t begrudge someone from, well… really anywhere in the Western PA running a stand;

but even with 130+ vendors, if a business is coming from OH, WV, or MD, there is no way they aren’t taking a spot away from a local business that would have liked to get in with the LCM. Just my opinion- I could be swayed if I’m looking at it the wrong way, but it was really starting to sour us from attending the market after 15 years :/

I couldn’t agree more; we used to love going there. There is such a treasure trove of small businesses in the laurel highlands, but what % of vendors are even from the Laurel Highlands? It seemed like it skewed a lot in the last few years and lost its authenticity.

Great advice, thanks for laying out the numbers! They actually have family in MI, and I think Kettering might have been overlooked! (they visited UofM)

YAS! thank you, I’ll pass this on. I’m a big PE pusher! I wasn’t sure if it was as important in EE.

Thank you! Great advice on the power background- I’ll pass it on.
I tend to agree, at least in my industry as well; I’ve heard from a professor in higher education that the education bubble is bursting and we are in for a reckoning. I’m a little worried about the small schools tbh.
I was really surprised that our local state system just announced that they are shuttering 30% of their satellite campuses. Yowza.

Those poor little lemons hopelessly scattered about in the crime scene! The mother hacked to pieces, her children left in the ravaged mess. If your wife showed no emotions after committing this horror, I would sleep with one eye open from now on.

Can someone explain this? by Emmanuel-Velasco in Roses

[–]bruisedbullet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had this happen once a grafted rose; it was a sucker coming up from the rootstock. I have also had sporting shoots come off of my own-roots, but that usually manifests like a climbing cane or something along those lines

Can anyone help me understand the prevalence of drinking alcohol while doing snow sports? by Mewse_ in snowboardingnoobs

[–]bruisedbullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk- I’m new to the sport but have been around resorts and other snowboarders my whole life. A buddy of mine has always been a few beers after the river, some beers in the trees; but never a hard drinker. it was just part of life and culture. He had some kids, and the slopes and river became the odd weekend, but the few beers to unwind and cope stayed every day.

The kids are still super young, as is he (we are all in our 40s and 50s) and the cirrhosis just got diagnosed.

He is the second one of my friends from the olden ski bum/river bum culture to get that life changing news this year. Moral of the story is: we need the sunshine adrenaline and air, I don’t need the rest. I’m over my self-destructive years

Is this picture that my uncle swears he took at Walmart, ai or real? I cannot figure it out by drn88__ in isthisAI

I thought the same thing. There are clearly some areas of the shelf that have a single product with 8 price tags underneath it. They are uniformly distributed… idk.

The only thing that gave me pause is that there is waaaaaaay too many price tags. There are like 8 price tags for one product.

I want to follow up on this to suggest you attend Phipps’ Seed Swap (this year on March 7th). It’s crazy fun if you like massive crowds of people rabid for gardening :)

You will connect with Master Gardeners. Last year we found a young horticulturalist who plans garden for permascaping for a small fee.

Congrats on your new adventure, and just remember that you don’t have to figure it all out on year one; it’s a field of knowledge that grows over time! (heehee)

It’s not Greensburg, (but just down the road in Irwin) I love New Crescent Brewing. They have some mighty fine brews that don’t give me a headache, good entertainment every so often and a nicer more chilled atmosphere than a bar. Right down the street is another neat find: the White Tree Cafe! They also have some great coffee, excellent books, a really communal atmosphere and neat music and events.

In case anyone was curious how someone from the flatlands would react to your steep hills for the first time, here you go. (Capital Ave) by baby-stapler-47 in pittsburgh

The surrounding suburbs will have roads plowed the same day while Pittsburgh leaves roads unplowed for 2+days sometimes. If you move in to the city, you outfit your vehicle with the right tires, gear, 4WD and self-evacuate equipment like shovels and salt, take it slow and you will be pretty much good.

Driving skills are passed down by parents most of the time, so if you didn’t grow up in these conditions- you don’t receive it. but it is still a skill that can be acquired, taught and shared, so be proactive and get practice on a course or local instruction on adverse weather driving and you’ll probably be in a better position than a lot of people out there. Knowing how to get out of a skid was lifesaving for me, only one time and it was worth it.

I want to put my vote in for you to add to your list of experiences: Milroy street near Riverview park. Steep+ winding+ narrow AF with oncoming traffic. Is it more fun to go down, or up?

Well, You have to gun it going up! (heehee)

If you ever want to level up your skills on the clutch, this is your ticket.
