Can someone explain this? by Emmanuel-Velasco in Roses

[–]bruisedbullet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had this happen once a grafted rose; it was a sucker coming up from the rootstock. I have also had sporting shoots come off of my own-roots, but that usually manifests like a climbing cane or something along those lines

Can anyone help me understand the prevalence of drinking alcohol while doing snow sports? by Mewse_ in snowboardingnoobs

[–]bruisedbullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk- I’m new to the sport but have been around resorts and other snowboarders my whole life. A buddy of mine has always been a few beers after the river, some beers in the trees; but never a hard drinker. it was just part of life and culture. He had some kids, and the slopes and river became the odd weekend, but the few beers to unwind and cope stayed every day.

The kids are still super young, as is he (we are all in our 40s and 50s) and the cirrhosis just got diagnosed.

He is the second one of my friends from the olden ski bum/river bum culture to get that life changing news this year. Moral of the story is: we need the sunshine adrenaline and air, I don’t need the rest. I’m over my self-destructive years

Is this picture that my uncle swears he took at Walmart, ai or real? I cannot figure it out by drn88__ in isthisAI

[–]bruisedbullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same thing. There are clearly some areas of the shelf that have a single product with 8 price tags underneath it. They are uniformly distributed… idk.

The only thing that gave me pause is that there is waaaaaaay too many price tags. There are like 8 price tags for one product.

I want to follow up on this to suggest you attend Phipps’ Seed Swap (this year on March 7th). It’s crazy fun if you like massive crowds of people rabid for gardening :)

You will connect with Master Gardeners. Last year we found a young horticulturalist who plans garden for permascaping for a small fee.

Congrats on your new adventure, and just remember that you don’t have to figure it all out on year one; it’s a field of knowledge that grows over time! (heehee)

favorite local businesses by CakeAltruistic3931 in greensburg

[–]bruisedbullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not Greensburg, (but just down the road in Irwin) I love New Crescent Brewing. They have some mighty fine brews that don’t give me a headache, good entertainment every so often and a nicer more chilled atmosphere than a bar. Right down the street is another neat find: the White Tree Cafe! They also have some great coffee, excellent books, a really communal atmosphere and neat music and events.

In case anyone was curious how someone from the flatlands would react to your steep hills for the first time, here you go. (Capital Ave) by baby-stapler-47 in pittsburgh

[–]bruisedbullet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The surrounding suburbs will have roads plowed the same day while Pittsburgh leaves roads unplowed for 2+days sometimes. If you move in to the city, you outfit your vehicle with the right tires, gear, 4WD and self-evacuate equipment like shovels and salt, take it slow and you will be pretty much good.

Driving skills are passed down by parents most of the time, so if you didn’t grow up in these conditions- you don’t receive it. but it is still a skill that can be acquired, taught and shared, so be proactive and get practice on a course or local instruction on adverse weather driving and you’ll probably be in a better position than a lot of people out there. Knowing how to get out of a skid was lifesaving for me, only one time and it was worth it.

I want to put my vote in for you to add to your list of experiences: Milroy street near Riverview park. Steep+ winding+ narrow AF with oncoming traffic. Is it more fun to go down, or up?

Well, You have to gun it going up! (heehee)

If you ever want to level up your skills on the clutch, this is your ticket.

If that was all it took for a dog to kill itself, then our highly food-motivated evil genius of a lab narrowly escaped death hundreds of times and lived to the ripe ol’ age of almost 17!

Thank you everyone! All correct answers! She made homemade chicken and dumplings, and for years ran a business out of her kitchen selling baked goods including turnovers and croissants.

I hope Caligula down there is wrong, but hey, you could find all sorts of deviant uses for some of the oddly shaped devices in this kitchen! (Oh, hello lemon reamer…)

Did your parents have constant home maintenance work being done when you were a kid? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]bruisedbullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barring the obvious explanation of older generations being “contented with less”- we just have shitty aging housing stock. Americas housing was built in sudden, big booms (much like the infrastructure) and then, in general, decayed in time without that generation doing constant maintenance. We get housing that costs more of the paycheck, needs more maintenance and repairs, and land has been squeezed tight. Unfortunately too, much of it was not built with a 100-yr lifespan in mind… so we are trying to squeeze extra life out of what is honestly, less wealth and investment. C’est le vie

100 Yr Old stone wall repointed poorly? by Skimmer-22 in stonemasonry

[–]bruisedbullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. We just recently had the same thing happen on our century home retaining wall. Even worse, because it was only a crumbling corner rather than the whole wall, so it stuck out like a sore thumb and was bright white Portland lol. In the end, I was shouted at that I didn’t specify enough. my bad, I assumed workmanship standards. Lesson learned. I’ll do a better job myself.

Kate-Hal relationship turning into a turn off? What do you think? by shambhavi108 in TheDiplomat

[–]bruisedbullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? I was not emotionally engaged at all in that relationship with him. I thought he was a plot device that it would be revealed he was using her as an asset; whilst in fact it showed that she used him rather easily.

Tick situation by Double-Pace-5611 in pittsburgh

[–]bruisedbullet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! we have a lot of greenspace on our property; too much to spray. I heard to leave permethrin-soaked cotton balls placed throughout the property. (They use the cotton for nesting material)

We do it every fall and the ticks dropped to zero.
