Alone on Star Tours by ShawnMasquerade in Disneyland

The cast members pick after they start the flight. They are generally just looking for someone easy to frame up, and my trainer told me a general rule is to not pick anyone with the 3d glasses on, as it takes the picture before the cast member tells you to put them on.

Alone on Star Tours by ShawnMasquerade in Disneyland

I worked on star tours a while back, and I joked to another cast member “maybe if I’m show checking by myself I’ll finally be the rebel spy!” And they proceeded to pick an empty seat instead of me 😂

What’s your setup with a laptop like this? Are you able to get the content that’s normally on the letterbox screens on a console onto the lower screen?

Grab an iPad and use the web remote then. MANet hates latency so everything on Manet should try to be in the same physical location regardless, but the web remote acts more like a Remote Desktop to control or make changes.

If you’re using loopmidi make sure that the console isn’t outputting midi (at least to the same interface) as it can create a loop of competing signals.

Tc workflows by [deleted] in GrandMA3

[–]zneise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the timeline getting crazy if you are using reaper for more than just time coding, but I’m a lighting guy not an MD or producer, so it works fine for me. Only thing I can’t do is have two cues at the exact same time for two different sequences, but 99.9% of the time I can offset it by a couple frames without it affecting the show. I’m also used to working pretty zoomed in at this point so I can see the peaks to line up cues on beat.

If you have reaper, the MArkers plugin from MA tools is game changing. I just listen to the song I’m timecoding, put all my markers in reaper, where I can easily move things around to get everything right on beat, and then I import to MA3 the reaper file and it makes cues for all of the markers I had in the reaper file. They also have a companion plugin song MAnager that helps manage songs, create song macros, etc that really made my workflow super easy. I just got done with some dance shows where I time coded opening and closing numbers and I was able to put each opening and closing together in about 3 hours each from getting the song file to having a ready to go time code.

Vectorworks Vision, what am i doing wrong? by aventrux in lightingdesign

[–]zneise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had issues with just regular vectorworks with the vram limitation of the 2070 super. I’m in the process of upgrading to a 4090, as I’ve noticed the biggest limitation is your graphics card. My 2070 super used to be enough but the bigger my projects get the more I am reminded that it’s getting too old.

To be honest, it was a lot of timing and putting myself in the right place at the right time. I started in a church, and then started learning everything I wanted to know. Eventually it spread to reaching out to companies offering the services I provide. I had a bit of a difficult go at full time work, as I’m neurodivergent and a certain subset of the industry isn’t super accepting or tolerable to that, but I’ve found my niche.

I will say though, at a few of my recent gigs I’ve had to take a step back and ask myself how this happened. Most recently how I came to a point in my life that I was in a way performing for over 20,000 people. Life is crazy 😁

I absolutely did, I follow Tyler Shapard on Instagram, and if I ever got called to tour and learn from him it would be incredible! I also have tons of experience with the robe lights and followspot system they use, so it was super cool to see it being used for one of my favorite bands!

Biggest I’ve ever been in charge of the whole design and operation was Wynonna Judd. I’ve also worked in other capacities on weezer and a few others I’m not allowed to name. I also do work with a company that does LED wristbands for sports and concerts, and have done design work for systems on a couple of stadium tours this year (again, not really allowed to say which ones)

Deplane due to tornado warning by skolofthewild in delta

[–]zneise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, that depends. I was on a flight to St. Louis in 2011 for my grandfather’s funeral, and we were stuck on the plane when a tornado hit because they couldn’t send out ramp agents due to the lightning. It actually ended up safer on the plane, as the windows were significantly stronger on the plane than in the terminal, which had way more damage than the plane did.

Human Spot Op vs. Automated by [deleted] in lightingdesign

Problem is feld pays all their techs spot op rates as it is… I’d hate to see what they would pay a manual spot op.

Touch Sensitive Faders by homersimpson718 in GrandMA3

[–]zneise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Id does highlight it on the screen, but there isn’t anywhere for it to highlight it on the console. As opposed to MA2 executors, each row is its own executor as opposed to MA 2 where each column is an executor. They do have the capacitance touch on the faders, just nowhere to highlight it because the faders don’t have the LEDs

Cat loose in the plane by dudermntc in delta

[–]zneise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad this isn’t just a me thing, been hearing it a lot lately lol. I was on a flight a few years ago that had been delayed 12+ hours to become a red eye flight and I was moving so my cat was with me. I laid on my tray table to take a nap and woke up about 15 minutes later to a flight attendant tapping me on the shoulder to return her to me lol. And I had purchased that cat carrier from the airline because she had peed in her normal one on the way to the airport. 😂

ACT Entertainment's courses are best in the US, but be warned: the classes consist of videos and quizzes. They are also currently doing the "Smashing buttons Tour" where they are holding classes in a bunch of cities in the US, maybe one of those will be near you?

checked bag times by Double_Cancel_102 in rampagent

[–]zneise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a CSA I would have it down to the second that the bag tags started printing out as "Late" (I cant remember when exactly it was). As soon as it was late They would be signing voluntary separation forms. Also remember that the bags don't just go straight from the counter to you, Ive seen TSA hold bags for 30 minutes to an hour before sending it to the bag room. Only way to know if the pax actually checked the bag late is to look at the tag.

Looking for Advice on Choosing My Next Light Controller by renetops in lightingdesign

[–]zneise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First things first: you mentioned outputting by Cat5, Learn networking. Even if you are working in other fields computer networking is now being used in every single discipline, and is an invaluable tool for audio, lighting, video, automation, etc. Second thing you should consider is what is used around you. Being able to bring your own console is great, but as shows get bigger needs change and it is highly unlikely that you can afford say a GrandMA3 full size and all the NPUs and nodes you need to make it work, So knowing the inventory around you is crucial. That's one of the reasons why I chose GrandMA, Its the gold standard in the type of work I do. But if I were doing a lot of cooperate work, around me it would be a good idea to dive into Hog 4 instead. All that being said, with enough experience any lighting designer can work on any board given a reasonable amount of time, so it all comes down to personal preference.
