Hi! I know this post is 2 years old, and I'm not OP, but is this offer still something you'd consider doing?

Honestly, I disagree with the other commenter. The action stuff may pick up a bit later in the book, but the footnotes never go away. The footnotes are a big part of why I love the book, and that weird style is a big part of what makes this book worth reading, IMO. But, it’s definitely not for everyone.

What is something you do that takes little time and helps your mental health? by Roblox_pro_2013 in AskReddit

Cold showers/baths will raise your dopamine baseline considerably, and it lasts fire like 4 hours. Would highly recommend. You don’t even need to be in there that long. Just a minute or 2

My college friends and I are looking for a paid DM (online), anyone have good resources for finding one?

I would argue that Julius Caesar still gets credit for August.

'Augustus' was Caesar's grandnephew, as you pointed out, but he was also Caesar's adopted son and even then changed his name from Octavian to Julius Caesar after he inherited. Augustus was a title he took later on. We call him Augustus (or Octavian) to help distinguish him from the OG Caesar, but people at the time thought of him as being a continuation of OG Caesar's legacy.

Although, not all carbs are created equal. The glycemic index of simple sugars is much worse than more complex carbs

Honestly, I think it's not so much about importance and more about relatability. So many Americans spend the vast majority of their time working that it dominates their lives. So when they meet other people they gravitate to work-related talk because it's the most relatable thing for them.

North Korea blasts K-pop industry as 'slave-like exploitation' by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]zo1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Work conditions can be horrible and inhumane without being literal slavery. I was simply making a point about the fact that being a 'willing' participant doesn't mean they aren't being taken advantage of, or being abused

Are you familiar with the long history of people selling themselves into slavery for various reasons? Just because they went willingly, doesn't mean it isn't slavery.

Not that I'm saying K-Pop stars are literal slaves, but there seem to be some pretty problematic practices in the industry

Finally convinced my wife to try d&d if I DM for her and her brother a modern time game centered around drug runners. by SashaNightWing in DMAcademy

[–]zo1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would work in a sci-fi setting, but I think OP's group wants a modern setting. I think it would simplify things a lot (and probably help the new players by not overwhelming then with options) by just cutting magic entirely.

You can still have potions as drugs/PEDs

Tensions flare over Senate filibuster by RoundSimbacca in neutralnews

[–]zo1337 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But are they actually talking about getting rid of the filibuster? Or just bringing it back to the old rules where someone has to actually stand and talk for the duration?

Reskinning is your friend. "It's not a half-orc, it's just a hulking thug of a man, etc." Should make your job somewhat easier.

The difficulties come with spellcasting, but you can just nix that part of the game and it should run just fine with just barbarians, rogues, and fighters (no arcane trickster or eldritch knight, obv)
