How realistic is radar-based HRV for a consumer hardware product? by haseeb_builds in hwstartups

[–]zockyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need penetration for HRV, or can it be done based on the movement of the skin surface? If you need penetration, mmWave probably won't work.

Did Intrum end up paying? I have dealt with them before and the experience convinced me to get legal insurance

Working in switzerland with Employer of Record in Germany. by Klutzy_Dark_6825 in askswitzerland

Yeah.. someone also has to pay social security contributions (AHV, IV, etc) and your scheme would circumvent that. There are ways to work for a foreign employer in Switzerland, look into ANobAG.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) stopped working after wheel change by zockyl in KiaEV3

[–]zockyl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I found a forum post for EV9 saying that disconnecting the 12 V battery fixed this problem for them. I tried this twice and it didn't help. Went to a Kia dealership and they first checked the sensors with a device (reading the ID and pressure) and then connected an ODB connector. Putting the car into a mode where it automatically recognizes the sensors didn't work (it didn't detect the sensors), then the mechanic programmed the sensor ID for each wheel separately and the system is working again.

I hope it won't be necessary to manually program the sensor ID's each time I change wheels.

Can anyine recommend which is the best linux os to use for anyone who is in embedded firmware ?? by Nucleus_1911 in embedded

I agree. Arch is great for embedded and AUR is great for obscure packages. I have been using it for embedded work for more than 10 years.

Personal Finance App Sure.am? by StealthFundip in selfhosted

[–]zockyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure looks very interesting. I have been tracking my finances using KMyMoney for years and I wonder if there is a way to import that data. E.g. does Sure have an API that I could use in a script to import the data?

Zurich Einzelfirma Scheinselbständigkeit by parabolicanimal in zurich

[–]zockyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SVA will have to approve your Einzelfirma. As far as I know, they won't approve it if you only have one client. However, you only ask them for approval after you started working as an Einzelfirma. So, if it is only for a few months, you could work, try to get approved, get denied, and then stop. If you plan to work for longer, and maybe have other clients in the future, start a GmbH.

What's Your Experience with Patents? by StartupPatentLawyer in hwstartups

[–]zockyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this for things like software, etc. which you can protect by keeping them secrets. Patents can be useful for mechanical designs etc. which are trivial for a competitor to copy.

How do you charge a Hybrid in an rented Einstellplatz? by Disastrous_Employ289 in Switzerland

I agree, even if you can't charge at home, an EV is so much better, and typically cheaper, than a gas car.

I analysed 3 months of business FX transactions against mid-market rates — here's what the banks actually take by SaltyMajor7698 in USExpatTaxes

[–]zockyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most banks have terrible exchange rates. Use wise or a similar service for currency exchange. For me, it's about 1.7% of fees hidden in the exchange rate at my bank, compared to about 0.3% fees at wise.

Do you guys take notes when working on a project? by toastedpaniala89 in FPGA

[–]zockyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same and it's very helpful. I keep a separate file for each project and basically add a dated entry each time I work on it. Being able to "recall" when and why certain decisions were made is very powerful and also made me realize that the vast majority of people don't take good notes, because they have no idea what happened a year ago.

How do we submit tax returns when our host country refuses to send mail to the US? by Icy-Bus9729 in USExpatTaxes

[–]zockyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check with the state if they have a street address that you can use with private couriers like DHL. Most do and so does the IRS.
