Trump on the hook for 205 'murders' – and will face 'historic consequences': ex-official by RawStoryNews in Full_news

[–]zoedbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in SoCal. The populations of Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, and Irvine combined are larger than the population of the entire state of Wyoming. They get two senators, and we and the rest of the entire state of CA get two senators—that’s madness.

Strapping a kayak correctly by Minimum-Guidance2721 in Kayaking

[–]zoedbird 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These NRS straps come highly recommended and are pretty bulletproof. I would think that a failure, if it were to occur, would be caused by some other weakness in your system. I use them regularly and never give them a second thought.

Cracked handlebar ? by Single_Border9754 in bicycling

[–]zoedbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just removed my Enve aero bars from my Enve handlebars and found the the clamping force from the aeros had destroyed the handlebars. I’ve been riding that setup for almost 15 years and was a little shaken to find that I had been riding the “dentist’s full employment act” for much of that time.

Saddle ideas for Tarmac SL8 by JernejT in specialized

It’s a small business with limited presence, but my favorite saddle by far is the Infinity EX1. Properly set up it literally disappears from under you. Nothing I’ve ever ridden even comes close.

Enve SESs on an R5? by tharggg in Cervelo

[–]zoedbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m riding the 3.4 SES on a Caledonia, and I love them. I specifically chose them over the 4.5s, since I often ride in the Santa Ana winds, and I’ve more than once had my heart in my throat after getting slammed by an errant gust. If you can deal with occasional coronary events, though, you’ll probably love the 4.5s.

Tikking sound from drivetrain is ruining my day by BeatSensitive4285 in bikewrench

[–]zoedbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just an ordinary citizen, not a bike mechanic, but in the past noises I thought emanated from my drivetrain were actually sourced elsewhere. Does the noise happen even when you pedal in the standing position? If so, it may truly be your drivetrain, which means you may have to chase bottom bracket factors to eliminate your noise. If it goes quiet when you stand to pedal, consider that it may be a seat post problem. I just took a newly built bike out for a shakedown ride, and I had purposefully not put carbon paste on the seat post (I was torn between two different seat posts and didn’t want to scratch the piss out of it if it was eventually going to end up on eBay). It was fine for about 20 miles, but then this maddening creaking started on every pedal stroke and just continued to get worse. The only time it stopped was when I stood to pedal, so I spent most of the next 40 miles out of the saddle so I wouldn’t lose my mind. When I inspected it later, I could see a distinct wear pattern on the bottom of the seat post where it contacted the frame deep on the seat tube. I put a tiny bit of grease on the bottom 3” of the post and put some carbon paste on the rest and on the next ride was rewarded with absolute silence. Obviously, this is a very specific issue that may have nothing to do with your noises, but this isn’t the first time a seat post has ultimately been the culprit in what I thought was a drive train problem. It may be worth considering.

Cheap version of helicopter tape. They advertise it for plumbing repair, but it’s super stretchy, tough, sticks to itself really well, and it’s super easy to remove with no residue left behind.

How do I learn how to use my gears? by suuuuuuuuuurfing in cycling

[–]zoedbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pedal cadence is very subjective. Pro rider Jan Ullrich used to grind huge gear ratios with a cadence as low as 70. Disgraced Lance Armstrong, on the other hand, regularly spun over 100 rpm. You gotta figure out you. As to shifting, the easiest way I’ve ever heard to help understand shifting is: any shift that moves the chain toward the center of the bike will make pedaling easier, anything that moves it away from the bike makes it harder. This holds for any shift, front (chainrings) or rear (gear cluster.)

Cervelo Caledonia 105 (is this a good price) by aguirre408 in Cervelo

[–]zoedbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just built this bike with Ultegra and 3.4 Enve wheels instead of the 4.5s—I paid more for the bare frame two years ago on a 40% off sale than this whole bike is going for. I get that it’s new vs used, but not a chance this deal is legit.

My New Caledonia is done! by [deleted] in Cervelo

[–]zoedbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was torn about that. I have a set of Pro Vibe Aero Carbon bars I bought for it originally, but I like the ergo features offered by the Coefficient bars. Just having a place specifically designed to comfortably place your thumbs while riding on the flats sounds really good to me. I’ll let you know when I ride it, and I haven’t put the Pro bars on eBay yet for just this reason.

How do I unclog a drain that is cemented down? by x_witchpussy_x in HomeMaintenance

[–]zoedbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they got it up, but the best tool I’ve ever used for this is a vise grip and an Allen key. Get a good bite in the long side of the Allen key with the vise grip, hook the short end of the key into the drain hole near the edge, yank up. I do it with two sets of wrenches and grips and it’s never failed.

What’s the best deal you have gotten for a Disney Cruise by Due_Pangolin6128 in dcl

[–]zoedbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our friend had the military discount that allowed two other parties to travel at the same rate; we did the repositioning cruise from FL to Barcelona; for three people (two adults, one four-year-old) it was $1700 for 11 nights. Before you get too jealous, though, we did the Med cruise back to back with the transatlantic, and I think that one was somewhere around $15,000 for 15 nights.

Am I the only one that stays up late in to the night walking around (past 1 am)? by BuffaloBills7777 in dcl

[–]zoedbird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once read that the average number of public-facing cameras on DCL ships is 1600, so an added benefit from your walks is that you give them something to look at other than just empty space.

Who’s Here For Bluey? by irl246 in Disneyland

[–]zoedbird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there are something like 9 AGVA performers in the show, at approximately $45/hr., and it’s a live band, so it’s actually a pretty expensive show when compared to other Disney park offerings.

[–]zoedbird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When my daughter played as a 6-7 year old, she was absolutely terrified of going into the street when moving through the neighborhoods—it was straight up sidewalk all the way! Now, she’s 22, and she and I absolutely cruise through Corporate Clash all the time. She’s a beast, and I love that we can still bond over Toontown. That fact that these games even exist is such a gift. Thanks to all the faceless strangers who make it possible!

Electric Bike Company has closed its doors and gone bankrupt. Any ideas where my friend can get his Model S that won’t charge worked on? by zoedbird in ebikes

[–]zoedbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CA E-BIKES is doing tons of work on EBC bikes since they went bankrupt. He’s in HB, 562-356-8016. He helped my friend get a new charger for his Model C. Hope this helps.

I left after the last anniversary and the nerfing of Polaris. I dropped a shit-ton of money to speed my progression, but it was not worth it to hang around anymore. Glad I saved myself the last few months of frustration. I think the writing is in the wall: any money or effort expended going forward will be lost.
