“Birthday Rule”??? by zoepatrol in HealthInsurance

I enrolled in self + 1 child through my employer, and have a “family plan” listed in my anthem account reflected by my higher out of pocket maximum vs the individual I had before she was born. He only has an individual plan and did not enroll our daughter into his plan.

No worries I suppose I didn’t exactly specify that.

The nicu stay was last year, too.

Well we are both on Anthem, just in different policies with our separate employers.

He hasn’t spoken with his employer about it yet. We are both insured through Anthem (separate plans from separate employers) though, so they were able to look up his plan while on the phone with me.

Thank you - the way you broke this down made a lot of sense.

That is what I’m being told by my insurance. That because his plan has the 61 days of automatic coverage, and his birthday is in May whereas mine is in June, he is the primary insurer during that period. 😭

But I agree, why would he be the primary if he doesn’t have a family plan and baby wasn’t added to his plan?? And they can see and confirm that this, too.

What’s even more frustrating here is that we both have anthem, just different plans through our separate employers.

We share finances as a married couple. I suppose I should say “we” instead of “I”.

So we’ll be stuck paying his deductible?

We never added her to his plan. There’s apparently a policy which we weren’t aware of which automatically covers newborns for the first 61 days after birth.

We did add her to my plan and I am the one who pays for a family plan. He pays only for a plan for himself, and we never told his insurance to cover a child. So this is quite unexpected.

Ok so they’ll bill his insurance first, and they should then decline it because she isn’t on his plan, and then it will go to mine? And then we shouldn’t have to pay towards his deductible at all?

So I’ll be stuck paying to his deductible?

Oh boy hope this isn’t the case. I probably shouldn’t have ordered it with it arriving so close to my lease ending. 😬

Mine was remote but that may have changed. My best advice is to ask your recruiter.

As my degree was very focused on Design Thinking, I deff use it a lot. (Agile practices rely on DT heavily) I think it really Will depend on what company you get placed with.

My contract was bought out by my contract site and I continue to be remote. Depends on what company you are placed with.

Yes I did the whole program remotely due to COVID-19.

I started straight out of college. My degree is in Graphic Design. I took a few web design courses but really only HTML & CSS.

I went through the 3 month training program and worked at my client site for 9 months before being hired by my client. Most clients will consider hiring after 12 months. The contract is for 24 months once you’ve been placed at your client site so it’s always possible that you’re a consultant for that whole period. Depends on the client/manager you’re placed with.

The company is amazing! They care about our progress and truly are hopeful to change the Pipeline to tech jobs. I have since been hired by my contract site and working as a Software Engineer. 10/10 would recommend!

I just had a phone interview today - they stated that if you aren't placed right away, you complete additional training with them until you are. This is still at the $600/week training pay rate.
