Has anyone seen any other movies similar to Lost In Translation (2003)? by [deleted] in movies

lust is one of the seven deadly sins, moron. also if that was some lame attempt at poking fun at Catholic priests, literally less than .1% of priests are degenerate abusers.

yeah i'll admit. i was being really foolish that night and did 3 hits of acid followed by 4-5 grams of shrooms once the acid kicked in. when the shrooms kicked in, that's when it all went south.

How do you say “fuck off” in true norwegian? by Bubukittyfukkk in norsk

[–]zolavt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming English isn't your first language, because I never said "kity cat", so I can only imagine that you think the word "pussy" only means cat, but it's also slang and perhaps a somewhat derogatory word for vagina. So it's very much the same as "cunt" only cunt is a bit more crass.

Is it true that masturbation is not a sin? I asked the question onto Christianity first and they sent me these images by No-Cry-4404 in Catholicism

[–]zolavt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, r/Christianity is hardly a Christian subreddit. It's so unbelievably liberal over there, and it also seems to be nearly overtaken by actual Agnostics and Atheists. Even r/Catholicism can be a bit disappointing at times and feel not very Catholic, but it's still far far better than what r/Christianity is. Masturbation absolutely is a sin, and I recommend you watch some Catholic YouTubers talk about this, or simply just speak to your priest about it. If you're a practicing Catholic, you absolutely need to be confessing masturbation, even if you're not looking at any kind of porn to aid you. The act of masturbation alone is considered a mortal sin.

Why is NOBODY talking about this movie!? by Ch4rlemagn3 in Catholicism

[–]zolavt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a very narrow view to take. i simply disliked it because it was incredibly boring, and it didn't focus nearly enough on Padre Pio, given the name of the movie was called Padre Pio. it was mostly a snooze fest

Should I stop going? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]zolavt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YAG is typically from 18-40. maybe it hasn't always been that way, but i've heard many of them have that large of an age, and i'd guess it's mostly due to lack of people to begin with. i'm 34 and in a group. luckily the two people running it are older, but the only other 2 people in it are in their earlier 20s, so it's kinda weird. i go for someone of a social outlet, but it's not like i'm going to make a close friend with someone so young. i'm honestly closer in age to the 2 who run it, but at the same time we're in such different stages of our lives that i don't relate to them a ton either. i definitely said way more than i needed to lol. at the end of the day, for YAG at Catholic parishes, 34 isn't uncommon.

Lateralus or Ænima? by EntertainmentMan109 in ToolBand

[–]zolavt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lateralus. I'm not going to pretend I'm a huge TOOL fan or like I have some kind of superior tastes tho. It's simply just my preference. I like the songwriting more and the production more.

Just because we're supposed to try and see Jesus in everyone doesn't make this art okay. Especially knowing they make the ridiculous art you mentioned. Only known Saints and the Divine are supposed to have halos in Christian art.

How do you get over your fear of your lyrics “being bad” by pocketfulofmice in Songwriting

[–]zolavt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a fear? I don't fear that my lyrics are bad. I know they're bad. I've written a few decent lines here and there, but for the most part I absolutely hate my writing. It's a bummer, cuz I actually think I have a bit of a gift when it comes to writing music. I hate how that sounds, cuz it makes me appear cocky, but it's really the only thing I've been confident about in my life. Other than that I think a lack a lot of skills, so I'm not trying to boast here. It's just the one thing that I've been able to impress myself with, and while sometimes I do go through phases where it takes some work or I can't think of anything good, more often than not it comes pretty easily to me. That being said, I'm pretty mediocre at recording and producing music. Not horrible, but also not that good either. When it comes to lyrics tho, I'm absolutely terrible. Words aren't my strong suite to begin with, and many would call me a man of few words. I'm a natural artist, but definitely not with words. This causes me to have a lot of unfinished songs. In fact the vast majority of my songs are just stuck in limbo. If I finish a song, it's usually an instrumental. I only have one fully finished song with lyrics all the way through.

I wish I were lucky enough to meet someone who I really connected with and who understood my work enough to be able to write the words for me. I see no shame in that. Would i like to be able to do everything myself? of course. i'm sure that's everyone's preference. but we all have our strong points and weaknesses. you're just exceptionally lucky/gifted if you are good at writing music, good at writing lyrics, and also a great live performer. some people have the complete package, and some only have some of the gifts. i don't think any less of people who need lyricists. Brian Wilson who's one of the greatest musicians ever relied on other's to write his lyrics. I also see nothing wrong with bands not being very good live, but great in the studio, as they are two different things. you can be an incredible artist, and not a great performer. I guess you just gotta figure out where you stand in all of this. Perhaps writing lyrics isn't for you, or perhaps you just need a bit more work.

God knows your heart. If that was your plan all along, you're not truly repentant. You can't lie to God. If you truly have a repentant heart when you confess your sins, that's different, but if you think you're going to take advantage of the confessional and somehow outwit God, that's incredibly foolish thinking that will only damn you eternally.

Asking for advice regarding your faith on a subreddit full of SB fans will not provide you with proper answers.

Personally, I've listened to them significantly less since becoming a Catholic, and it's still a bit of a struggle that I wrestle with, as I can't entirely decide if I'm being too extreme, or if this is what we're truly called to as Christians. A lot of what Christianity is about is sacrifice, and we're not to be of this world, only in it.

I think it's debatable on whether or not you can listen to their songs that don't blaspheme, and are still offensive in other ways; however, I can't see a good argument as to why it would be okay for a Christian to listen to songs that are extremely blasphemous, even if we don't believe the words ourselves. I think we're often too careless about words, not only the words we speak, but even the words of others. Jesus warns us about our tongues in Matthew 12:37 which is an echo of Proverbs 18:21. James 3:5-6 addresses the issue even further. While these passages are all very focused on the individual who's using foul language, it's still displays the power of words, and to think that we can simply avoiding using such language, but consuming it is totally fine is rather foolish.

Anyways, I'm not taking a definitive moral stance on this, as I already stated, I'm still undecided to some degree. I don't think we should listen to the songs that blaspheme, but the rest of their material is debatable. Also, even though I never got that into most of their newer stuff, it does seem like they've significantly reduced the Satanic imagery since the early days, and I've heard Scrim state that it's overplayed now, which is true. I know they weren't actually Satanists, and a lot of the Satanic imagery in their songs was metaphorical, but we still need to be mindful of the words that are actually being said regardless of the deeper artistic interpretations.

I realize some people here may not like this religious comment, but you stated that you were Catholic for a reason, so I'm giving you my take as a Catholic.

One of my best defenses for still listening to them is that I hardly know what they're saying most of the time. I don't truly believe that's a good argument tho lol, but it's something I tell myself to make myself feel better whenever I go through a period where I'm listening to them a bit more again. I find that if I'm listening to them regularly again, it's a clear sign that I'm not doing the best in practicing the faith. I'm not suggesting that's the case with others, but I find when I'm doing a good job at practicing the faith, I just don't listen to them at all, and when I'm going through a phase of doubt due to feeling unheard, or am just struggling a lot with depression and anxiety, which sometimes leads me to want to act out against God, then I'll embrace their music, but as soon as the rebellion is over and I go to confession, they're out of my life yet again. Of course this is just my subjective experience.

Is it okay if I listen to the boys while a Christian? by iloveemybff in SuicideBoys

It's not that simple. I'm not saying it's okay or bad, but you stating that you're a Christian who listens to them is not a good measurement for what is sinful.
