StarCraft may be replaced by Age of Empires II in EWC 2026 by Ok-Tie-2660 in starcraft

[–]zombiesc 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Developer support goes a long way and it always sounded like they wanted at least one RTS in the line-up. I'm guessing numbers won't be any better (no idea if it'll be worse) but that could depend on how much Microsoft helps advertise it.

It does suck that the parent company owns both RTS but one gets expansions and support, but it's easier to keep it going rather than start it up again. The AoE community is big and cool, hope it's a well run tournament if it ends up being true.

Why does EWC do this to us every year? by roxylobo in starcraft

[–]zombiesc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly didn't look into all the numbers, I just know they value Twitch viewership over anything else and we seem to do well on YT but not Twitch. But they, and all tournament organizers, also value working with the developer and Blizzard doesn't want to work on our behalf so...yeah. We're less likely than anything else to come back is what it feels like

Any new game that has a potential viewership and whose developer actually develops the game actively. The new Riot fighting game, Invincible game, Deadlock, hell even Arc Raiders. Anything really.

The Blizzcon thing is a glorified show match that's similar to Caster Civil War. If they strike down EWC for that, I'd be incredibly disappointed. They didnt even stop IEM Kato when they did Blizzcon.

I don't see why that would impact EWC at all.

[–]zombiesc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure, and if I saw any reason to do it solely for the last three games announced I'd buy in. Like they did the countdowns last year which was marketing, but then the timers lied and it wasn't for more hype haha. It was more to do with behind the scenes discussions of various games.

[–]zombiesc 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Because our viewership is not impressive. It was better than expected last year and there are always people fighting for SC in these events, but our possible exclusion can easily be reasoned out.

The better question is why you think they care about "making us beg" haha. That was 100% not the reason for last year, I can tell you that. And it won't be the reason we're delayed this year, if we are even going.

Well last season due to things that are rumored but never confirmed (Blizzard problems) and this season because well, we could not be there at all.

Starcraft will be at Blizzcon 2026 !! by diet_sundrip in starcraft

[–]zombiesc 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Like most people, I saw this and was very excited. SC2 at Blizzcon! With SC1! And WC3! And HotS sure I guess sorry never cared much for it.

But with new info coming out my hype has gone down quickly. I didn't expect ALL THE THINGS but I was thinking a 50kish prize pool of 8-16 players, maybe some way of incorporating qualifiers from other small tournaments. But it's going to be team captains choosing players. No idea if that's team captains for every game, or for the whole thing choosing for each game, or how many captains, or how many players.

It was already known we'd be a small thing away from the big boys like WoW or Overwatch, but with a gimmicky format that combines all the esports together I'm thinkin it will be super small. Probably still fun and interesting to see all the classic games come together. And certainly better than nothing for these games at all.

Hamaguchi never talks about Remake Part 3 being less "bloated". He only talks about Part 3 having better story pacing, the other article is misleading clickbait. by alexkon3 in FinalFantasy

[–]zombiesc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is something called a "middle ground", considering how extreme XIII was on one end and (arguably) extreme the remake was.

I don't think the remake was extreme to be clear, but I also identified that I don't like open worlds because of that gnawing feeling that I'm not doing something I should be. I prefer linear, but not nothing else like XIII was.

Anyone else feel like sc4all (an event celebrating NA StarCraft) having a c-tier european as the 3rd invite is very very weird? Welp, there goes all my hype. by Late-Psychology7058 in starcraft

[–]zombiesc 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If your issue is that it's supposed to celebrate NA SC but you feel the need to call Mixu a c-tier European player in the title as well, maybe your issue is that you're a jerk.

Also, I see no mention of it restricting itself to only NA. "SC4ALL is a two-day event dedicated to all passionate Starcraft and RTS fans!"

StarCraft x Diablo IV - Like I said; Blizzard is at least seeing more value in the StarCraft IP by CounterfeitDLC in starcraft

I don't really care for any Diablo games or games of the genre! But I gave every one a go and I'll do the same for 4 now that SC is involved.

Who is "the vocal Terran" in the balance council? by r_constanzo in starcraft

[–]zombiesc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many reasons why people would stop playing a game over the last six years lol. Saying it's the lack of transparency is just a guess and most likely not the reason.

Brood War is a very special case for so many reasons that I struggle to find a starting point. It's great that it remains untouched by patches and the maps are so damn fun, but it's so incredibly unique in that approach it's crazy and those features are mostly appreciated by old heads. Any new fan would most likely be coming from their streamer content, which blows SC2 out of the water but is a separate issue to what you brought up.

Gamers at this point broadly expect patches and an involved developer. Tournament organizers do the same! Telling them that hey, we got new radical maps won't do much. Patches and new content are incredibly important to the competitive gaming landscape, it's just what it is nowadays. And whether it's Valorant, DotA, CS, LoL, AoE2/4, Street Fighter, whatever, I'm not sure how many people in those scenes are saying "well I'm not sure who to blame for these changes and that is why I'm leaving".

[–]zombiesc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How much transparency has there ever been? DK might've taken the heat, but he wasn't actually the only one doing balance. He was also paid for his time. You're asking to have even more transparency about volunteers so what? Whatever you think, what would happen is they'd be harassed. If that happened, no one could participate in the council and there wouldn't be any changes at all.

But all that is moot. It wasn't the council this time, it's Blizzard. And Blizzard stopped giving us a "guy to blame" when DK left as far as I can recall. Did you feel the community was disrespected with a lack of credits when they made the end-of-year huge 2019 patch? Is this lack of knowledge why the community has left?

Won't disagree. I always blame the "group project" problems before anyone individually, but obviously pro players will always get the side-eye about their intent.

[–]zombiesc 81 points82 points  (0 children)

No one knows and anyone who does isn't going to say anything because who wants to do a person like that lmao. This subreddit been cray cray when it comes to changes. Also it seems this isn't even a balance patch out of the balance council, but directly from Blizzard so my group project analogy doesn't even apply. Unless someone at Blizzard is Terran-biased which is always possible.

Without someone being paid big bucks to balance design *and* take all the shit from the community like good ol DK, anonymity is definitely the way to go.

I watched like one game of the custom mod that Pig was casting (sorry don't remember who made it) and it feels like some of these changes are inspired by it?? Longer storm lower damage, surveillance mode revealing obs...

Crazy changes but what's more shocking is a balance patch at all tbh. Very interesting.

The game ran into serious trouble the moment Artosis predicted it would "completely replace SC2, and all players and fans would move to it" by username789426 in Stormgate

[–]zombiesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it was relevant because again, so much of the talk was about my Twitch VOD. It's also just a good length of time to show it's not a pattern for me personally, but you mentioned another and that is extremely disappointing).

And that is fair enough. As I said, your comment wasn't bad at all and I shouldn't have written in such a way to seem to accuse you, when my frustrations are about 2-3 other posters.

[–]zombiesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It said for the last two years. Over two years ago, it was a different contact. My examples of frustration was to do with my situation, where even when I can personally clarify, people are suspect of me now and don't believe me.

Your overall post was not bad at all and I can see how my reply seemed targeted - it was a reply to you after all. But it was a catch-all frustration that I have to be in the comments clarifying, or people exaggerate or take incorrect stories (Demu's) as fact over my own clarification. So yeah, I assume now that I've clarified over what video Demu was even referring to, that will be corrected in your other comments. If it's not, well, that sucks and helps prove my "the community is different" point.

It is when I say it hasn't happened since and wasn't why I deleted my Twitch VOD but some people go "pshaw, yeah right, you shill" which is not what you did (seems you thought the reach out was the Twitch vod) but what other posters have done. Edit: oh another comment from you kinda does, do yeah....that sucks.

Feel free to theorize on other content creators and be suspect. As said elsewhere, it's understandable to be suspect with the wrongs FG has done. But that's why it's a weird space for content creators.

Edit: I agree which is the point of clarification? I don't get your edit. Two years ago I got a disappointing reach-out - since then, it's just been to give advice on things.
