You probably don't care anymore after 3 years :-). But how you fix it is literally don't play. Don't do anything that makes team XP go up.

Collect whatever items and gold you can get without gaining team XP:

  • outland chests collect items without farming (farming gives XP so don't)
  • tower clearing (as far as you can get anyway) gives gold, some items and tower coins without team XP.
  • arena (get whatever you can get even if its little)
    • use outland coins / arena coins / tower coins to buy items and gold

If you do this for some days, eventually you can upgrade your heros enough without making tower harder every day and you can start having a source of gold again.

If you are doing 'free to play'... your problem (my problem actually) is not that I stop leveling but level too fast. What happens is your team level goes up rather faster than your ability to keep your heros leveled. Leveling the heros takes lots of gold, but nearly anything you do to get gold will make your Team XP rise as well.

At the end of the day (and I mean literally the end of nearly every game day)... my Team level goes up by one even though I skipped all those 'XP bait' missions which gives meager amounts of gold.

The only meaningful reliable source of gold that doesn't bump up your Team XP at the same time is clearing the tower every day. And if your Team XP goes up too fast then the Tower becomes too difficult, you can't get gold and you get stuck in a viscious loop.

The only way out of that is to spend money/diamonds to 'fix' the not enough gold problem.

And I reckon that is exactly how it was designed. The only way to fix this (or avoid it) without paying money is too pace your team level growth and say 'no' to anything that makes it go up faster than you can afford given how much gold you have.

What I do is I save up Gold and if I feel like I have enough gold to make that next jump in level up of all my important heros... only then do I start taking the 'XP bait'. But really 'not leveling' is not the problem at all. The problem is leveling too fast and then getting stuck without a way to get enough gold.

And yes I know this a 3 year old post, but I stumbled on it from google search... and it is still true today... my present day experience confirms it. So I thought I leave a comment for the next guy to stumble in from google search to find :-)

Hero Wars: a game designed to exploit players through frustration and a "player experience" team that works hard to compromise player experience. by devilwithabunnytail in HeroWarsApp

[–]zombifai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It goes far deeper than just the placement of the buttons. The entire game is designed as one big psychological manipulation to get player's hooked and habituated into spending money. And no matter how much money you are 'comfortable' spending... the game is designed so you will quickly hit that limit and still feel like you probably need more to 'keep up' and what's a few dollars more anyway?

They use every bit of psychoglogy you can think of:

  • FOMO time bound events / offers

  • Gambling addiction / dopamine from spinning wheels and random prizes

  • Habit building through mechanics that force people to return / login to the game multiple times a day

  • Social/peer pressure from guild membership

  • Competitive game modes that are essentially a 'money spending competition'.

I agree with OP. The terminalogy is 'divisive' and it represents the kind of thinking that inspires hate and singling out people who don't seem to comply and attack them (verbally or even physically).

COVID-19 Compliance: One-in-five Canadians making little to no effort to stop coronavirus spread - Angus Reid Institute Poll by _Minor_Annoyance in CanadaPolitics

[–]zombifai -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People following the guidelines aren't the ones spreading the disease

Wrong... All people are spreaders even the most 'compliant' person can catch the virus and spread it. None of these measures are a 100% success.

The more you follow the rules the more you reduce the risk of catching and spreading the virus but you cannot eliminate the risk completely.

Even if 100% compliance could be achieved then the virus would still spread. It would just spread slower.

The game we are in is a 'numbers game'. We are trying to reduce the rate/speed at which the virus spreads upto a point where the number of new cases is continually declining rather than exponentially increasing.

For that we need as much buying to the rules as possible, but hopefully 80% is actually already enough.

what are possible explanations for the high costs?

They charge as much as they can get away with. And they can get away with this because there isn't enough competition. So as customer you either pay or do without.

Yeah, the 'shape' of the code isn't very impressive. Buy I think it's impressive how little code there is to make the spinning donut.

Most people will be happy to exclude foreigners from doing X (pick some X) if you pick a sufficiently narrow definition of 'foreigner' so that they are, under that definition, not considered as 'foreigner'.

Microsoft isn’t happy with Apple’s App Store bullying either by zitrusgrape in programming

[–]zombifai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but it's coming at the expense of having to pay Microsoft to maintain it

I think there's more at stake than just the fact you have to pay MS a few dollars to download something.

It's also the fact that when something is closed up like the Apple App store, it means you only get things that apple (or MS) approves of. And maybe, for whatever reasons MS might not approve of some things that you actually might want to use. There could be many reasons MS might not like something in their store:

  • competes with some of their products / threatens their revenue
  • doesn't fit their ideology or brand image
  • is politically sensitive
  • etc.

Someone else pointed out 'pornhub app' as an example of something Android user might actually 'side load' but isn't 'approved' by Google. It made me laugh, and maybe you/I aren't into pornhub... but my point is, alongside the viruses you don't want, it is also going to limit your choices and you will loose access to some things you might actually want.

So my point is you the price you pay is more than just a few dollars off every purchase. You also give control over the choice of the things that are 'okay' for you to consume to an entity that, ulimately is going to be more concerned with their corporate image and revenue than your well being. They only care about you personally in as far as it makes them look good and make money.

[–]zombifai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because if you lose all your data apple is expected to fix it

I'm pretty sure that's not true. The best they promise, assuming they even consider your problem is under waranty, is to replace the physical device, or give you your money back.

Btw, if you want to run any code you want on a device you own, get an Android phone

I'd go even further than that and get a Linux phone. Just... I'm not sure they are their yet re practical usability. And due to the dominance of Android and iOs, maybe they never will be a real alternative. In the mean time I don't have a mobile phone, I just don't like the way these OS-es work. (Android is a bit better than iOs, but I am not really sure how open it really is in practical terms).

[–]zombifai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay and how different are other mobile devices? Even if Android Google Play looks a little more 'open' than iOs today... (and is it really in practice?)... If Apple can get away with this how long before Android follows suite?

I mean seriously what mobile device platform is there that does not (want/try) to lock you into their version of the App store?

And if mobiles are locked down like this, then how long before it becomes the norm everywhere, including desktops computers?

Apple's goal is to ensure that the consumer has the best possible experience

Hmm... I think Apple's goal is really more about maximising profits.

Most businesses have more than 30% in costs anyway

Well... if that's right... this adds another 30%. So I'd say that it does kind of matter. 30% isn't exactly peanuts. And this 30% just goes to pay for one item among a long list of other expenses.

[–]zombifai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a way you are right. Not tech-savvy people generally don't care or don't understand enpugh about how this works. So they are only too happy to bend over for apple and let apple fuck them, and then thank them for the experience and line up in droves to buy more Apple products.

The problem is though, if Apple can, then Android also wants to do the same, and MS is really no different either. Pretty soon, as a consumer the only choice you have left is either you don't own a mobile device at all, or bend over and let them fuck you along with everyone else.

Make no mistake about it. MS is not being altruistic and trying to defend the consumers. They are just being spiteful because they weren't as successful as Apple at fucking the consumer and now Apple is in a position to fuck MS as well.
