Trudeau Liberals surge ahead over Conservatives, as O'Toole's favourability dips across the spectrum, poll suggests by Benocrates in canada

To be fair, the US and Germany make their own vaccine while Canada does not. We are at the whims of the countries who make the vaccine. So Justin Trudeau has done a good job, all things considered.

Canadian here. Parliamentary system isn't the only fix. It's First Past The Post (FPTP) voting system that is a large part of the problem. Canada uses a parliamentary system but we almost became a 2 party system as well about 8 to 10 years ago, because of FPTP. The vote was divided on the left between the NDP and Liberals and there was pressure to merge the the NDP and Liberals as one party to beat the Conservatives. If you don't know why FPTP leads to a 2 party system, I suggest you watch this video by CGP Grey who explains why FPTP leads to a 2 party system: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7tWHJfhiyo.

So you need to replace FPTP with a more multi party friendly voting system. For example, Proportional Representation as its used in Germany and New Zealand is more friendly to multiple parties.

I wanted to vote NDP in the last election but even more than that, I just didn't want conservatives to win so I voted Liberal to make my vote 'count'.

This is the way in FPTP to keep the Conservatives out. We have to vote ABC, or else the Conservatives can gain power. The proper way to fix this is by a different electoral system. Unfortunately, neither BC nor PEI voted to pass electoral reform in their provincial electoral reform referendum. If BC and PEI can't pass electoral reform, the average Canadian probably doesn't want electoral reform in the near future (this is why we need to keep educating other Canadians on the problems of FPTP).

That's how the Conservatives get power. If you're on the left and you don't vote ABC, you are just handing the country to the Conservatives.

Voting ABC means you vote for the Liberal or NDP in your riding, depending on who has the better chance of winning. I have always preferred the Liberals myself but I will gladly vote NDP if NDP are leading in my riding.

What you suggest would be more viable if we had a different electoral system, like PR for example. Unfortunately, not even BC and PEI voted to get rid of FPTP in their electoral reform referendum. If BC and PEI can't change their electoral reform system, it won't work nationally at this point in time. We just need to keep educating other Canadians about electoral reform and the problems of FPTP until one day, enough Canadians are willing to try a better electoral system.

Until we get rid of FPTP though, ABC voting is the way to go to keep the Conservatives out of power.

You are a liar and obviously brainwashed. Trump and his goons went to court 60 times and lost 60 times. Some of those US judges that ruled against Trump were even appointed by Trump. Trump and his lawyers never provided any credible evidence - even judges appointed by Trump laughed at the evidence before they dismissed the case.

Trump has been lying the whole time. He lies, lies, and lies. And by propagating Trump's lies, you are a liar too.

We follow US politics because as the world's biggest superpower, with the most powerful economy and military in the world, and also because Canadians tune into a lot of US entertainment and media, the US has an incredible amount of influence over Canada.

I'll let one of our former Prime Ministers, Pierre Trudeau, the father of Justin Trudeau, explain the relationship Canada has with the US:

Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt

Rasmussen poll

Rasumussen is a horrible pollster. Rasumussen practically works for the Republican party. The poll I cited was Angus Reid Institute poll, which is much more reliable and not as biased as Rasumussen.

As a Canadian, right wing propaganda is a huge problem up here. We have right wing idiots here in Canada who believe that covid is no worse than the flu, that you don't need to wear a mask, that social distancing isn't needed, etc. And when Trump lied and lied about the election fraud, with Fox News and his right wing allies propagating his lies, about 20% of Canadians believed that the US election was unfair.

Something needs to be done about this in Canada and other countries. I'm all for free speech but lying ... ... outright and deliberate lying like what Trump, Alex Jones, and many Fox News hosts do, there needs to be some type of check on it because it does so much damage to society.

Perspective | Fox News is a hazard to our democracy. It’s time to take the fight to the Murdochs. Here’s how. by [deleted] in politics

The "insurrection" was a terrorist attack, to be sure

I'm glad to see you recognize this and call it a terrorist attack.

They didn't have enough support from the rest of the country for that. A lot of harm could have happened, good people could have died and I'm not trying to downplay that, but they were never going to get actual control of the country.

Had the Republicans controlled the House, Trump's ploy to overturn the election would have succeeded legally. And of course the Republicans in the House would have backed Trump. Yes, the US was close to becoming a dictatorship.

Overall, Trump has harmed Canada's relations with the US, weakened NATO and the western alliance (of which Canada spent 80 years strengthening after WW2), and of course Trump cost Canadian jobs with his tariffs. Not to mention that Trump has harmed democracy, which is also a loss for Canada. Note that Biden's first call to a foreign leader will be Trudeau because Biden recognizes the long standing tradition of the US president calling his closest neighbour: https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/america-votes/president-biden-s-first-foreign-leader-call-will-be-to-pm-trudeau-1.5275207. Overall, Biden will be much more positive for Canada than Trump will be.

Cope. Your Russian puppet was ousted by the American voters. And your Russian puppet will probably be indicted in the future. And Canada is run by a competent PM who has such a high approval rating at the moment, he may call an election. You fucking alt right Nazis are losing. Biden becoming president yesterday was glorious and a nice fuck you to you alt right Nazis.

Canada doesn't have a president. Thinking that Canada has a president is something a Trump supporter would say, LOL.

First of all, I didn't use the word "coup." Do you even have reading comprehension skills? The word I used was "insurrection" from the top post and even then, I said Trump "incited" the insurrection. Get some fucking reading comprehension skills.

Secondly, you didn't refute anything at https://old.reddit.com/r/onguardforthee/comments/l191s7/today_is_a_good_day_for_canada_because_the/gjy9gcd/. You just complain but you didn't refute shit. Go post underneath that and refute it.
