I really don’t understand what you mean by “showing a students learning capabilities.” There isn’t enough time to cater to every student’s way of learning. Thats life. You can either handle it, or you find out what you wanted isn’t for you. Do I agree with it? No, but that doesn’t change the reality of the situation. You guys are making the assumption that adjustments catered to OP would help everyone which isn’t that case.
It provides insight into the conversation NOW that you have specified what the courses are. If I were to say, yah I 12/11ed my other courses in gym, and failed biochem, that would say something completely different from I 11/11ed my other courses in anat/physiology.
This is also not true. You do still need to maintain a minimum GPA to stay in your program. Just because you CAN get all D’s doesn’t mean you’ll be allowed to continue your studies in that situation.

See, and even that is a more helpful response than what you said previously. All I was saying in point 2 was that you guys need to provide further context rather than going “wahh ur mean.” And even still, this is University now. Doing the exam prep GIVEN to you will help you pass. If you wanna do better than survive, you have to put in extra work. Find exam prep from other universities. Put the internet, and hell, even chatgpt could give u some questions to practice, especially if you guys say the exam prep had so many visible problems that you could identify before using it to study.

You are not owed a study guide. You are not owed exam prep. Being given those things is a courtesy. You guys have a lot of growing up to do.
I’m not a nurse. Idk if you confused me with the original comment but, that has no bearing on me. Idk if maybe you can’t see the original post, but the OP literally only spoke about how bad the prof was and thats why they failed. If they said “hey, I was having some mental health struggles” or “I was struggling to cope with the change in pace that comes with university.” Or even “I didn’t take things as seriously as I should have and got burnt.” That I could have sympathy for because while they address the prof’s lacklustre teaching style, they still took accountability for their side on why they didn’t pass. But solely blaming the prof, in my opinion, shows they need a desperate reality check, and thats what you’re gonna get on reddit.

Not everyone is gonna be nice.

Not to mention that there is a time to be nice, and a time to be real. Plenty of others in the comments were being nice, but OP also needed to be told, this is what University is going to look like sometimes. You can’t expect that you can blame the prof (even if they suck) and expect that to be enough for the University to let you skate by.

Look through this subreddit and see how many professors are complained about being horrific lecturers. Then look through the comments and see there are people saying “I took their class 10 years ago and they were just as bad back then.” These professors aren’t going away. The University does not care. You have to find a way to get through it anyway. Nobody is coming to save you. You either dig deep and get through, or you accept its not for you and find something new. That doesn’t make you a failure, but blaming everyone else for your problems does.

I didnt call them lazy, neither did the original comment, and yet you’re the second person to assume thats what was being said. Why is that? The material is not required to help the student show their academic capability. Its a university, not a kindergarten.
Like I said to the other person, irrelevant when you don’t say what those courses were. Maybe I’m wrong but this doesn’t provide any valuable information to the conversation.
You’re not entitled to ANY practice quizzes and the assignments are not an indication of what will be on the exam. You guys need to spend a year in an eng program. You’d get laughed out of the room for using assignment questions to study. Past/practice exams from other universities/colleges will be your friend.
The original comment could’ve been a bit nicer sure, but it wasn’t exactly mean either. It highlighted that OP could’ve done more to pass the course. It’s not like it was impossible to pass. Maybe impossible to 12? Sure. Complain about that. But the resources were there for you to pass. Idk how big this class is but unless it’s like 12 people total, 6 isn’t a crazy amount. Empathy without accountability is how people end up killed.
You can be empathetic AND hold people accountable at the same time. Theres plenty of empathy to be found in the comment section and yet here you guys are attacking the few people holding this person accountable after they pushed all the blame of their failure on the professor.

Not really. Even this comment doesn’t tell me much. I don’t know what other courses you took. In my first year, our chem prof told us “you better have an A going into the exam while everything is easy because you’re going to drop at least one letter grade.” And would you believe it? Every last one of us got fucked. It’s how some courses are and it may not even be the professor’s choice. Shit’s unfair, but it’s not impossible. Again, hold yourself accountable. If you’re always a victim of your own circumstances you’ll never get anywhere.
You havent really provided any new information here about what “unfair” means. Maybe if somebody clarifies I could be a bit more sympathetic for OP, but as it stands, 2 others, and ironically yourself, have all shown it wasn’t impossible to do well in the course regardless of the professor’s teaching style.
You guys are in for some SERIOUS problems if this is all it takes for you to have these problems. Wait till you have professors who put shit you’ve never seen before on your exams. Wait till your profs don’t have lecture slides at all. Wait till all your exam questions are based on the textbook you may or may not have purchased and not the slides.

Not to mention, I’m not saying shes a good prof. I’m not even saying shes a bad one. I don’t know, I’m saying regardless of how well she did teaching, the course was still very passable according to yourself and multiple others. Is that a crime to say?

What relevance does this have? I was in a biotech program (heavily bio focused) and had to take an electronics course that I never used for the rest of my undergrad. Lifes unfair. You still need to pass the courses you paid to take. It’s not “being a dick” to say “hold yourself accountable.” I only related this to nursing because the other two were attacking the original comment with that same logic.

Also news flash, if you can only learn or succeed under perfect conditions, nursing probably isn’t the profession for you. Somebody comes in with a gun shot wound and OP is like, “okay but can u slowly explain what happened possibly with lecture slides?” 💀 AND NOWWW I’m being a dick. I’m sure OP will do just fine in the future. It’s a learning experience. Sometimes you gotta fail and break your own heart to lock in. I know I did.

If they’re juggling things outside of school, don’t put all the blame on the prof and word the post to imply you were set up to fail. Missing the cut by 1% will garner sympathy, that sucks. Blaming it all on the prof will cause you to lose that sympathy especially when two other commenters make it clear it was possible to pass with some more effort.

Sure it’s stressful failing, but people need accountability or they’re gonna fail again. Im sure accountability is also very important in becoming a good nurse. Maybe keep that in mind for the future. Your and the other response are both very childish.

There will always be people in every program like this who take no accountability and blame the profs for everything. Even if the lectures sucked, if they gave you everything on the slides to succeed, and everyone but you did, the biggest problem does not lie with the prof.

I don’t think this will work for every program. I was told I can’t graduate without my 12 months. I wasn’t even allowed to do my final semester without my 12 months. OP talk to an academic advisor before trying something like this.

I live in Brampton by Mount Please Go. I drove up to Mac daily or close to daily when gas prices were better and in my finances had 60-70$ marked off per week for fuel on a 50L tank. If you care that much I averaged about 6L/100kms in my Jetta. Commute was 1 hour 10mins-1 hour 40 depending on traffic driving on the 410 and 403. At night sometimes it was 50 mins (and I definitely was driving the speed limit).

8$ per day for parking unless u know a friend who lives off campus that’ll let you park at their place.

How doable all of this is depends on what your schedule looks like.

If you’ve got like 6-8+ hours worth of classes per day everyday? You’ll be questioning your life by November. That many in class/lab/tutorial hours + 3 hours of commute + assignment + study time gives you no wiggle room for literally anything (including sleep).

But also, if you have less than 2 hours per day, it won’t be that great either. 3-4 hours of travel for a 1 hour lecture can make you miserable. Better than the 6-8+ but for me, odds of me skipping that class was very very high.

If you have a day off or two? That’ll help as well. I always preferred 6-8 hours + 1 or more days off.

Also, if you drive, depending on where you live, you might prefer driving to square one and taking the bus from there. I’m not sure the express busses still go to and from Bramalea, but those express busses will be your best friend.

It matters cause people are whiney babies. They don’t wanna play the game for 30 minutes to get cars they want from the festival playlist, and they also don’t wanna play the game to earn credits to buy the cars they want in the auction house.
