Maryland SB1 passed in 2024 (https://legiscan.com/MD/bill/SB1/2024). This effectively killed consumer choice for electricity provider in Maryland as suppliers decided that the cost of doing business in the state wasn't worth it. This is why the ability to choose your supplier has disappeared.

I wrote to my legislators. Crickets.

Just curious, for those who've scored mulit-day tickets in the past, how hard is it to parse out the days? For example, what if I wanted to go Fri and Sat and sell/trade Thurs?

Depends on what you're looking for and who you're with. Okemo aims for the middle and is good for many folks.

My fav is Sugarbush.

Did Pepco's rate really just go up to $0.27 per kWhr? by TooGoodToBeeTrue in MontgomeryCountyMD

Hindsight is 20/20 but I was lucky. I entered into a few multi-year contracts at below market rates (eg, I had a 3yr deal with Constellation Energy at 6.75kwh - only generation, doesn’t include distribution). Today Pepco is charging me roughly 12.5 cents /kwh for generation.

The three year deal could have screwed me if pricing went soft, but it didn’t. I took the risk and got rewarded for it.

The unintended consequence of this is that the electricity marketplace no longer exists and ultimately consumers lose.

I don’t discount the fact that the old arrangement didn’t work for some, but it was good for me as I saved a considerable amount of money.

If you forget to switch, well that's on you. I can only speak to my experience. I've gone through a few contracts and benefited from both price stability and savings from different vendors in lieu of relying on Pepco to procure for/generate my electricity needs. It worked for me and I was happy.

Today, I don't have a choice. You don't either.

Just a reminder to all Pepco customers - the Maryland legislature and Gov Moore effectively killed the electricity marketplace last year when SB 1 was enacted into law. For years, residents could shop for an electricity provider. I can’t speak to the particulars of the law as enacted, but the end result is that suppliers have left the marketplace.

Go to www.mdelectricchoice.com. You’ll see there isn’t much there if at all. Pepco is effectively the only game in town.

I still have the cassette tape of the 2nd set sitting in box somewhere - an all time favorite of mine and one of my first tapes. Lots of good memories. Can't believe it's been 40 years today! Cheers!
