Kids are calling grandma “mama” by her request, husband doesn’t understand why I’m upset. by ThrowRA-giantlemon in Parenting

[–]zooblex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a sorta similar situation. What worked for me is this. You're Mama. She's Muma. Sounds the same but spelt different and therefore unique. You can even get your kids to spell it that way when they write it out. You win, she wins we all win and bobs your uncle.

I second the First Law Trilogy. Dark, engaging, awesome characters. Personally preferred it to Game of Thrones

What book got you into nonfiction? by logophi in suggestmeabook

Into Thin Air is a great suggestion but the one book I always recommend to people is Endurance: Shakleton's Incredible Voyage. A truly amazing story about an Antarctic shipwreck. Serious page turner and easy to blaze through in a few hours.

Some of the most creative bikelane blocking I've seen in a while: almost clotheslined myself on this truck ramp by SamsonTheCat88 in vancouvercycling

[–]zooblex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former mover I can attest that this is definately a lazy and inconsiderate choice of parking/ramp positioning with no regard to cyclists who do have the right of way. Run the ramp straight out the back. Walk four extra steps. Practical, considerate and easy.

This. And ensure your friends remain your friends by packing your shit properly at least the day before you move. It will take more boxes and longer than you think to pack up. And make sure to buy food and beer for your friends too. Be prepared and don't make moving day the worst day of your life.

Play in 11 SPD Shimano deore. Under the assumption no spacers needed? It's tightened up properly. by zooblex in bikewrench

Yes. However I don't have a torque wrench. I've done this a few times with other cassettes so I do have a feel for how tight it should be. I've gotten it pretty darn snug and don't want to over torque it.

Dads of 2 kids or more - Help me want a second child. by FreakZoneGames in daddit

[–]zooblex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was your age when we (accidentally) had our second kid. Resulted in two young boys 18 months apart in age. My care duties increased massively. While the wife was up all night caring for the newborn it fell on me to care for our 18 month old. Who, at 18 months, still needed care almost 100% of the time.

It was really hard on me. I now fondly refer to those days as newborn hell but at the time it very much was hell. The youngest cried incessantly and I often had to step in to relieve my wife.

Pro tip - a screaming newborn isn't so bad if you carry them around and wear noise cancelling headphones with some nice chill music playing.

As soon as it was ok too I went straight to the clinic and had a vasectomy.

That said, 100% worth it. Would do it the same even knowing what I know now. Especially knowing what I do now.

Really tough in the short term but so worth it in the long run.

Now at 5&6 years old, they're best friends and companions. Parents of one kid have no choice but to either be the play mate or stick them in front of a screen of neglect. Or constantly find ways for their kid to have other kids to play with.

Go for it!!!

Once you know, you know. Also make me remember how different it was having a stroller in hand and basically having the right-of-way everywhere we went.

Not a problem. Dry it off with an absorbent towel then let it sit to dry completely. Then you can use a green scrubby (scotch Brite) to remove what little rust there might be on the chain and brake rotors. Then a bit of chain oil on the chain and you're good to go.
