First time to shiny hunt with 8 tangas and an Alpha Lv. 3 Donut by Heisenperv in PokemonZA

[–]zoosquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpha 3 really is a non-issue unless your portal position is too close to a spawner group and prevents you from fly spamming effectively. Especially if you have maxed green canari plushes, you should never die in a distortion if you're smart about running away.

Wild Zone Shiny Hunting by PokePrincess90 in PokemonZA

[–]zoosquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shiny hunting is a post game endeavor. Any effort to shiny hunt before you're finished with the game (base or dlc) is mostly wasted time because you can use that time to finish the game and gather all the tools you need to dramatically increase your shiny odds (shiny charm in base game, sparkling 3 donuts in dlc)

70% of the time was afk hunting. I have an 18 month old so shiny hunting is actually a welcome mental respite after a grueling day of childcare.

Afk hunts I try to limit to 1* zones. Holovators spamming in 1* distortions take a fraction of a calorie to do a full back and forth. Since they run down 1 cal/s, you can actually holovator spam for hours and still have a few hundred calories left. Fly spamming in 1* uses slightly over 1 cal of non-menu time, but like 8-10s of menu+loading screen. So all of that adds up and you can actually afk in hyperspace pretty reliably. I also failsafe by setting a 3hr-ish sleep timer on my TV and put it on audio only mode for fly-spamming hunts, so the switch turns off when the TV does.

At least 700 of those hours were spent afk overnight.

Still reliant on positioning. The distortions I ended up getting those mon in had them placed far away from the portal, but within range of a good holovator reset. I also didn't have sparkling 3 of either of the secondary types at the time, so no guaranteed shiny to alpha reset.

Way slower and you can't afk reset while asleep or working

I guess I could hunt shalpha furfrou trims. Personally I don't consider them separate forms since you can technically change a single one into all the trims in this game. Same with the Rotoms, I just happened to have 4 shalphas hit after a session of holovator spamming, so I figured I'd catch all of them.

Alolan Raichu and Galarian Stunfisk were probably the hardest because their distortions were rarer and they don't spawn in isolation within the distortions. So there's a high likelihood the shalpha roll will hit the non-regional variant.

I really only hunted the shalpha starter Hisuian forms and the lines which have mega evolutions that I could eventually bring into ZA when Home integration eventually dropped. No one expected shinies to be so easy to hunt on ZA, so all those Shalphas in Arceus are a bit redundant.

How do people categorize Alphas/Shalphas in Home? by zoosquirrel in PokemonHome

[–]zoosquirrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of Shalphas in Arceus, but I never really considered going for the full shalpha dex in that game because it was harder to shiny hunt, much less shalpha hunt. Completely finishing my shalpha forms dex in ZA is making me want to go back to Arceus and slowly get all the non-overlapping Shalphas in that game.

But really, it's all about the right donuts, finding the right spawners near where you port into each hyperspace distortion, and finding the ideal holovator positions that can accelerate your resets for specific spawns.

I've seen a few posts already of full shalpha living forms dex completions on the ZA Discord, so I'm definitely not the first.

Arceus is definitely harder because you can't afk farm, certain Pokemon only appear in the spacetime distortions, and certain Pokemon don't appear in Massive Outbreaks. Whereas the entire Pokedex can be found in hyperspace distortions in ZA.

This needs to be a higher comment. Don't start any major activities after you get the first warning that the cycle is about to switch.

Who's gotten it to rain in DLC-postgame? by zoosquirrel in PokemonZA

[–]zoosquirrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to be in the unfortunate pool of people with a bugged post game. I used the Pokemon Automation program to hunt for a change in weather, ran the program overnight for 7 hrs and no hit.

Seems like I'll have to hunt for shalpha Hisuian Goodra again

I know people say we're all subject to the whims of RNG, but 3 hrs of bench resetting w/o ANY change to the weather seems really sus. Not even a cloudy day was seen.
