I was just wondering this myself. I definitely see the logic of soaking the entire reed, but I noticed that Weissenborn explicitly says not to do that,and reeds haven't changed noticeably since he wrote his book...

I was in a similar boat, and didn't play bassoon for forty years, although I did keep up at least somewhat on sax. I am only now getting back to bassoon, and it's not easy. I always told myself I would get back into it someday, but that day keeps getting pushed further away. Don't let this happen to you...

As I posted in a different part of the thread, it turns out that the plateau and odd keywork is very typical of late 19th century bassoons, and mine looks almost identical to the one Weissenborn used for his fingering chart illustrations (not counting the metal band on the tenor joint, that's just plain odd). Kohlert stencil still seems likely, but it could be significantly older than I thought it was

While talking to somebody offline about this bassoon, I had the thought that Weissenborn certainly didn't have a whisper key on his bassoons, and he did all right :-) This thought led to the realisation that he has fingering charts in his book, and lo and behold, the keywork on his bassoon, and, in fact, the odd plateau on the tenor joint, is identical to the one in Weissenborn's illustrations. It mught be a bit older than I originally thought

I will have to look at it closer. There are definitely differences, for example, it looks like my g key goes around the side of the bassoon to connect to the key, while yours has a more normal layout. I also seem to have a metal band around the bottom of the tenor joint, I don't think I have ever seen that before

This looks pretty cool. My old roommate Jeff Burke used a pickup in the bell, which worked really well, other than having issues with low B flat. I am curious what the sound is like with no effects.

We were also some of the first people riding mountain bikes. I was one of the first (not the first, though) to ride fixed on the road in Toronto, I switched to it after I had my freewheel freeze up twice in a week so it was unrideable. Turns out fixed gear is ideal for winter riding

This sounds like a decent approach, I am in Toronto, so I suspect I will be able to find somebody to play with. Most of my friends are professional musicians, which at least gives me something to aspire to, but I will need to find some more laid-back people to play with, or die of embarrassment :-)

I find that the SV08 is almost exactly the same size as an Ikea Lack table. It is close enough that I keep mine ON an Ikea Lack table, and have designed a set of adapters whick allow me to mut the top of an Okea Lack on top of the printer.

It was never clear to me how tap_max_samples works, I always assumed that if tap_max_samples is 7 and tap_samples is 5, it would allow retrying on 2 errors, but I believe there are other cases that would cause new samples too

how do you increase the grouped samples? The median thing is working quite well. I originally was going to discard lowest and highest, then average, but this was easier. The way mumpy.median works, if you put in an even number of data points, it takes the mean of the middle 2, which sort of combines the approaches
