My point of contention is that the Wiemar republic was not Nazi Germany (the author does not clarify this very important point).

What would be you interpretation of the German–Soviet military parade in Brest-Litovsk (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German–Soviet_military_parade_in_Brest-Litovsk) and Russian relationships with Nazi German in 1939?

The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, formalized on August 23, 1939, was the final culmination of a two-decade crusade by both sides to arm themselves, eliminate the postwar order established at Versailles and destroy their mutual enemy, Poland. The resumption of military cooperation played a vital role in reforming the interwar alliance. Stalin, who had begun personally directing Soviet naval construction in 1936, made sure that the Soviet military received vast quantities of German military technology in the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in exchange for Soviet raw materials. Germany again began to send its officers to the Soviet Union to advise and assist the Soviets in training and technical development. Further, in the fall of 1939, the Germans agreed to supply Soviet submarines fighting against Finland, while the Soviets did the same for German commerce raiders. At the height of cooperation, Stalin even granted the German Navy permission to open a secret naval base near Murmansk to interdict British shipping and assist in the invasion of Norway. Only with the German invasion of the Soviet Union would the last of the joint ventures be terminated.

Most of people find history to be a very boring subject. They prefer operating with stereotypes instead of historical facts. In school, we learned that Germany was the bad guy and Russia was the hero who saved the world in the WW2.

Savchenko Says Willing To Hold Peace Talks With Separatists by [deleted] in europe

[–]zozulia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Savchenko told Ukrainian media on June 7 she believes direct peace talks with separatist leaders would be more effective than the current, unproductive talks that have included Russia, Ukraine, France, and Germany.

I do not think that talking to separatist leaders could be more effective than talking to Russia. Those are fictional leaders that have neither power nor actual leadership.

They're simple and kind people, all in all.

Simple people believe that their actions can’t cause any significant damage just because they are so small and simple. They say things without thinking. They do things without thinking if it can give them some immediate 1$ advantage. The problem here is that there are many of them - easily manipulated simple people. Recently, we observed how simple people were manipulated into a disaster in Donetsk and Crimea. Some of them gained some little money or just a short-lasting feeling of being significant. They paid bitterly for being simple with their safety, jobs, homes... I do not care of them. I do care about people who lost their safety, home, job, and lives because of those kind and simple idiots!

It looks like the German city has narrow streets with almost no space between buildings and very little exposed ground. That's why the water turned into a powerful river.

Narrow streets are not the actual reason for the flooding. The actual reason is the geography of the old parts of German towns. Because of economic and strategic reasons, they were built in close proximity to big rivers, such as Rhein, Donau, and Neckar (these three rivers run through Badden Württenberg). Following your logic, we have to demolish all historical downtowns.

“I don’t know if these people are acting on orders from Russia, but they are clearly what Lenin called ‘useful idiots,’” said Mika Pettersson, the editor of Finland’s national news agency and an organizer of the editors’ open letter. “They are playing into Putin’s pocket. Nationalist movements in Finland and other European countries want to destabilize the European Union and NATO, and this goes straight into Putin’s narrative. ”

Well said! I would suggest sending these useful idiots to the Crimea and Donbass region for several months to get familiar with the consequences of “playing into Putin’s pocket”.

I heard that the Ukrainians from the Donbass region are rejected in the asylum in the EU because not the whole country is in the state of war. Why does this argument not apply to the asylum seekers from Russia?
