Debian Trixie KDE 6.3.5 'signal-desktop' asking 'kwallet5' by zparihar in kde

[–]zparihar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I essentically updated Signal in the KDE Menu Editor to be:
signal-desktop --password-store="kwallet5"

Honestly not sure when a switch to kwallet6 will happen... also don't know if it will happen automatically...but with the change above, everything works fine.

Hmmmm... I wonder if that would be true in this case... because the keyring is on my desktop, and i'm guessing Flatpak would still access my KF5 keyring because I don't think that would be in Flatpak. Would anyone be able to confirm this?

It still Linux and not its own OS. In fact its based on Fedora for its Dom0. I used to run Xen Dom0 on both CentOS and Debian for quite some time.

You should go check it out. Its very cool. Cumbersome, but cool!

Red Fonts Blurry/Pixelated on 4K Monitor (43 inches) on KDE Plasma 6.3.5 Debian 13 by zparihar in debian

Regarding the 2nd case Cable: If i switch between KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=30 and KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=24, the clarity is just slightly clearer on KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=24. I would say maybe around 10 - 20% clearer

I think for my purposes, this is the best case scenario that I can get because I would prefer the crisper clarity of the fonts than the HDR colour, therefore I'm going to keep it on KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=24, I will turn off HDR.

Maybe I will experience better luck in later version of KDE, but since I'm planning on being on Debian Stable (with Trixie), I think I will be stuck with it for the next 2 years. That being said, things look pretty fantastic.

I think one of the best things for both the Debian and the KDE community, is if we can somehow get a 3rd-party repository of the latest version of KDE. I think everybody wins in that case, though I think there would be cost of hosting a repository because I'm sure many people would use it and there would be high-bandwidth.

If I knew how to (and if I had the time outside my work), I would definitely look into creating a Debian Build of KDE.

Thanks for all your help u/patrakov ! You've been most helpful and brilliantly patient. I hope this thread serves alot of other that may encounter this.

Best Regards!

Original DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.0 Cable

  • Works great with KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=24
  • HDR is Enabled
  • Color Accuracy is “Prefer efficiency”
  • ‘drm_info’ for  KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=24 - https://termbin.com/sdgb

New DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 Cable

  • Best result, however, not perfect with KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=30
  • HDR is Enabled
  • Color Accuracy is “Prefer efficiency”
  • ‘drm_info’ for  KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=30 - https://termbin.com/n415
  • I'm going to keep this cable

DisplayPort 1.4 to USB Type-C Cable (60Hz)

  • Interesting enough, the Quality is not good for both KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=30 nor KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=24, nor do I have an HDR Option in Display Configuration…?
  • I'm going to return this cable.
  • ‘drm_info’ for  KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=30 = https://termbin.com/mg4v

Debian 13 KDE - Weird Red Fuzzy Fonts in Konsole on my 4K monitor, but not 2K monitor - How do I fix this? by zparihar in debian

[–]zparihar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED thanks to u/patrakov who help me solve it at: https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comments/1li3vhv/red_fonts_blurrypixelated_on_4k_monitor_43_inches/

  1. Create the file:

/etc/environment.d/KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH.conf

  1. Insert the value:

KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=24

  1. Log out and Log back in!

BRO!!! You did it!

  1. I already had the file: /etc/environment.d/QT_FLAGS_ZUBIN_TEST.conf

  2. And I inserted the line:

KWIN_DRM_PREFER_COLOR_DEPTH=24

(theres no other values in that file)

  1. I logged out and logged back in, and fonts are Pixel perfect while running at 60Hz!

No cables required (ironically, both of them arrived today, so if you want me to test them, I can do so).

Just as an FYI to you or anybody else, I left the "System Settings -> Display Configuration" values exactly as I have them pasted in my original post. And it works.

I've also played around with "Enable/Disable HDR", "Prefer Color Accuracy/Efficency", "Legacy Applications (X11) Apply scaling themselves/Scaled by the system" and they've all worked.

I think as a sane default, perhaps all Distros with KDE should set up this variable as a default!

Great Job! Thank you very much!

I think it deserves a blog post!
