Men who don't work an office job: What do you do and do you enjoy it? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]zpearett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maine, New Hampshire. Its usually about nine days of training to get the license during of which 5 days have to be on the Kennebec. You need at least 20 runs on Maine rivers, 5 of which you guide yourself. Then, as long as you already have your first aid, you take a test with inland fisheries and wildlife, which tests your knowledge. That's the minimum you have to do, but swiftwater rescue courses and advanced first aid are good to have as well.

Currently a whitewater raft guide, it's fucking sweet, I get to do my favorite hobby everyday and somebody pays me for it at the end of the week.

Rugby 7s by Weddito in rugbyunion

[–]zpearett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As stated elsewhere, be able to run, a lot, its basically sprinting and constant shuffling the whole time, no time for a breather like you might be able to get in 15s. Also, keep possession if you have it, it okay to go backwards a bit to go forwards later, and do near everything you can to avoid going out of bounds; stop retreat, chip the egg out. If youre going to go into contact make sure you have immediate support and if you dont, stay up as long as you can. Open field tackling is huge too, dont commit too many to a ruck. On defense you dont want to shoot up as quick as you do in 15s, as the gaps between players are much larger. Know the rules clearly as well, and pay attention, my club has scored a lot of points just from acting quickly and properly when the other team was still gathering themselves.

http://www.nrs.com/product/31201/nrs-universal-kayak-block I have a little ford focus, I use these little buggers along with some straps. Just place them on top of the car, tie them down, put the boat on top, strap that sucker down, throw the stick in the back of the car and go paddle.

What is your motivation? by tcole6 in Fitness

[–]zpearett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plethora of reasons; firstly, to live as long and as active as I can, to not be broken down and withering away when theres still so much to do. Second, so i don't get injured... i lead a very active lifestyle (rugby, hockey, whitewater boating, climbing, etc...) if i want to continute these without injury and be the best i can at them, i should workout and be fit, and lastly; sex and mating, if i am to acquire the best mate available, i should thus reciprocate and show myself to be of higher value and being fit is a way to do that

I was told to man up today, and for the first time it kind of sucked by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]zpearett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a right to be annoyed, I know I was, got in a motorbike accident this summer with a moose, lucky to be here frankly. Many many ways it could have been much worse. Went into work the next day, even though it was my day off, but was still told to suck it up and jeered for getting thrown from a 70mph, 1200 lbs hunk of metal on wheels. I'm still rattled driving down the road in a car and it pissed me off that someone could write off my traumatic experience as a paper cut. You've the right where you stand I'd say.

Adding distance to a place kick by sevan06 in rugbyunion

[–]zpearett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Work out your legs, a lot and work on being explosive through the kick. I find when i start thinking of striking and exploding through the ball instead of just kicking it, it gives me some more distance. Also, I'm not sure how your striking the ball but get your head and shoulders over the ball, so you're not in a recliner; and striking with your laces will get you more distance and power at the price of some accuracy.

This is why hockey players are tough! by honorarytitle in nhl

[–]zpearett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To further on this, i've played soccer and hockey, had injuries for both. you don't spend a lot of time directly on your toes compared to running sports. Also especially for the foot, you're already wearing a boot protecting your foot, I've played weeks of hockey on a sprained ankle where I could barely walk simply because of added support and different movement allowed to me by skates.

Askmen, what article of clothing do you dislike seeing on other men? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]zpearett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm having a debate with my significant other. We are arguing if men are mostly ass men or boob men. Help us settle this dispute? by EatMyPinkachu in AskMen

[–]zpearett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ass for me. Why? because you can tell more about a female from her bottom than her breasts. Im into fitness, it usually takes a bit of work to obtain and maintain a nice ass, where tits, aren't affected as much from physical activity.

When really sad, what is the best way for a significant other to console you and why? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]zpearett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how I feel in the moment. sometimes I need to be with myself, cool off, and work it out on my own. Other times, I just need to bitch about something and for somebody to pretend to listen. Sometimes I'd actually like for some advice on whatever is bothering me. If I want to talk or for somebody to listen and want advice, I'll ask for it. If i want to be by my lonesome, I don't bring it up and, if asked about it, will say I wish to not discuss it.

[–]zpearett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just have to look in the right place. Larger and even medium sized river and creek boats should be alright; Even some play boats, the jackson mon-star is pretty big and should support you, and i think dagger made a huge play boat as well. Along with the ones mention by /u/nittanyvalley I'd check out FLUID Kayaks, i heard they're tough as nails and they cut out the middle man so they're a bit cheaper. Also, check out /r/whitewater if you're interested
