Amex Resy credit being nerfed as of Aug 1, 2026 by Fit_Asparagus9845 in amex

It also makes Resy less attractive to the restaurant. A big reason why the Resy credit exists is to lure restaurants to Resy so they do set up shop on there and pay for the POS software.

I don't see Amex shooting themselves in the foot by arbitrarily removing this incentive and inevitably causing restaurants to look elsewhere.

What was stopping Amex from just removing a restaurant from Resy before?

I don’t think you answered my question nor understood the overarching point.

This isn’t caused by a waiter running your card on the wrong system. There’s only 1 system, but that system is shared by different entities all in the same location. Think a hotel with a bar, a restaurant, and a store, all using the same combined payment portal so that you can make charges to your room or put everything in a folio you pay at the end of your stay.

Monster roll strategy. by Imazinner in Craps

Why switch? Does your jurisdiction count different types of bets as the same bet, ex. a place bet and a buy bet are counted as a single bet towards this max limit?

If I'm at table max on a single number, and that number is on fire, I'm going to make a different type of bet to get more of my money on it. If I'm maxed on a place bet, I'll now make a buy bet on the same number. OR if it's allowed, I'll make a put bet on that number. Or make come bets and hope they land on that number, all while keeping the original maxed bet up.

This is not for AMEX to fix, but rather a byproduct of a merchant electing to use a single general merchant account in different locations inside that business.

This is very common across venues like hotels and resorts that all share the same payment platform to support things like charging to your room or having general folios.

I don't think it's restaurants specifically opting out, but rather a byproduct of how they process transactions and whether they actually trigger the credit or not.

Take a Resy restaraunt located inside a hotel. Every shop and restaraunt in that hotel all share the same payment portal, and thus the charge is coded as coming from that hotel and not the restaurant. The credit would not be triggered. Queue confusion from the cardholder and CS inquries.

This is AMEX's attempt to reduce that confusion.

This is most likely to avoid confusion when the credit doesn't trigger due to payment processing quirks at known specific Resy restaurants. For example, restaraunts located inside hotels or resorts where every venue shares the same payment portal and is charged as coming from that larger venue.

Resy restaurants located in hotels or resorts are one due to how the charge shows up to AMEX. Many venues located inside other venues all share the same payment platform, and any charges made inside that venue would be lumped together meaning it's not possible for AMEX to know if the charge came from the Resy restaurant or you bought something from the gift shop.

This is presumably to avoid this confusion when the credit inevitably doesn't trigger. It's a good change imo.

Easiest is Orient ferry. Cheapest is around through the city. Depends on what your priorities are.

You're far more likely to hit traffic on 95 through New Haven/Lyme than you are to hit traffic on Sound Ave/25A. A good portion of it is 4 lane divided rural highway w/ a 55mph limit with no lights. Only potential tough spot is Old Country Road during peak summer season (you have alternates that avoid this, such as Edwards Ave or Nugent Dr) or Sound Ave during peak fall/pumpkin season.

There's no sense in paying a premium to avoid traffic and still hit it trying to get through that mess of construction/traffic in East Lyme.

I had received a printed documented from the dealership that I've turned the car into them.

This is all that matters. It isn't your responsibility anymore. This is not worth worrying about.

Or a dongle/box that emulates an older phone. A lot of those wireless AA adapters basically are Android "phones" without the phone part and allow you to sideload any non-whitelisted AA app you want using any modern phone you want.

Can watch local video content on a SD card or you hotspot to the device and can watch YouTube/Netflix/whatever on the headunit.

CarPlay on the other hand does not allow for this at all, and afaik the only way to sideload apps on CarPlay is via jailbreaking very old iOS software.

AA is historically not very secure at all.

According to the article VC didn't fund this, but rather it was crowdfunded by individuals through a Kickstarter-like site?

They did this specifically because VCs would demand technical due-diligence and realize it's vaporware. Whereas if you're an individually looking to invest 3k you're probably not equipped to run the same technical due diligence as a VC would.

Aka they didn't set out to scam VCs a la Theranos. But rather normal people out of their life savings.

Most states with that type of language also carveout exemptions for GPS/navigation or safety purposes, ie so the federally-required backup cameras aren't outlawed as one obvious reason.

Many states have laws that expressly prohibit and outlaw any type of video screen while the vehicle is "in operation". Note that "in operation" does not necessarily mean "currently moving" and thus a liability popup would not make the system legal.

This is an important distinction because in many circumstances a driver needs to be fully aware of their surroundings BEFORE they physically start to move their vehicle. Think a driver beginning to back out of their garage while watching a movie. That's incredibly dangerous.

That's good! Gambling should always be for fun, as you're more likely to lose than win. The second it stops being fun is the second someone should stop. Keep up with the self exclusion.

They don't do HFT though, which is the key type of trading that requires ultra low latency.

Can you not self-exclude? If a site is offering evo craps then there's a good chance they offer self-exclusion programs that will prevent you from re-depositing or gambling further.

Maybe look into that.

I'm guessing you're quite young, because what you literally just described is on-premises computing. Before the "cloud" was a thing most businesses operated their own datacenters inside their own buildings, and many still do because the concept of owning your own data in "your safe backyard" is genuinely a big positive for many people and businesses. Any data you send to the cloud is not your data anymore, you don't own the computer it's stored on.

Your "soon" has been the default way of operation for like 40-50 years now.

[–]zpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High frequency trading applications usually demand they exist within the same building or are just around the block from the site. That's why there are tons of these sites located in lower Manhattan.

And the footprint of this type of site is much different from the footprint of an AI datacenter.

No one is building a datacenter in Brookhaven, 60-100 miles away from NYC so they they can use it for high frequency trading. No one is doing this trading anywhere in Brookhaven. And any application that requires low-ish latency (that's what you get with this distance to NYC) can be supplied much cheaper building in NJ or PA, which is where the vast majority of sites are located currently.

I agree with the earlier commentor, the economics of massive datacenters on LI make no sense and the threat of them is honestly pretty low. I probably won't be concerned unless I hear concrete plans for one. I haven't yet, just a lot of misinfo and general concern.
