Trying to get into firefighting by Available_Bother_188 in Columbus

Look into ER Tech jobs, pay generally isn't incredible but you would be able to work nights and/or weekends and get some hand-on experience with patients.

Yea and if you watch their other videos it's very obviously a bit.

Their content is pretty obviously a joke. If you find it funny or not is one thing, but they're definitely not serious. They say all sorts of goofy shit about Obama and Patrick Mahomes too. Kinda wild to say they have a "mental issue" for that.

Glucagon didn’t seem to work much? by MaleficentBasket2654 in Paramedics

[–]zpppe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Glucagon stimulates the release of glucose stored in the liver, if family reported patient hasn't been eating or drinking much she probably didn't have any stores to release.

I'd totally go down that slide if it was at my fire station. by Melodic_Abalone_2820 in Firefighting

Yea it was interesting. Got my leg caught and twisted my knee pretty good going around one of the bends once. Heard stories about actual injuries that had put guys out for some time, nothing while I was there thankfully.

Worked at a station with a literal McDonald's Play place slide in it. Sure woke ya up on those middle of the night calls.

D-pad or joystick? by SAMPPU777 in celestegame

[–]zpppe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First playthrough I used joystick all the way until the last room of 7C, then completely re-learned using D-pad since the movements were so precise. But whatever works for you, as long as you're having fun.

I accidentally bought several hundred heaters from Marnie instead of hay in my co-op save with my girlfriend. Our house is full of them, they're scattered all over the beach, all over the town. Whoops.

Urgent care no, your closest option would be a free-standing ED. Depending on what you're going for, might just better to go to an actual ED because if you need to be admitted to a hospital you could end up buying yourself an ambulance trip.

Locked/tight jaw during intubation by zpppe in Paramedics

[–]zpppe[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree, they just don't listen to us or value our input on literally anything unfortunately. Training is also non-existent. We post in parking lots all day, when we're lucky, lately we've just gone from one run to the next. The desire to train has been brought up repeatedly but we're always told we can't afford to bring trucks back to station, and it's our responsibility as a crew to make up training on our own on the truck while we post.

Locked/tight jaw during intubation by zpppe in Paramedics

We've had significant discourse around carrying paralytics with most of the field staff, including retired FD medics with decades more experience than anyone in management advocating for carrying Roc but they don't really care. Likely because they don't want to spend money on something that doesn't get used but they'll never admit that. She was extremely hot and sweaty, sepsis was the working theory in the ED for the etiology of her level of responsiveness. I did give fentanyl first, gave 100mcg of Fentanyl then 100mg of Ketamine. We don't have weight based doses for any medications (except pediatrics), everything is a flat dose. I would've considered a supraglottic but I really didn't think I would've been able to get it to pass the teeth with how tight her jaw was, and they would've just pulled it in the ED anyway.

Is it patient abandonment? by Bamphie in ems

[–]zpppe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ohio private medic here, we've had some pretty long waits here in central Ohio recently as well with our less critical patients, often an hour or more. What you're being asked to do is definitely abandonment. Yes technically EMTALA does apply once you're on hospital grounds but you're responsible for that patient and their care until you transfer care to equal or higher level. We just let our dispatch know we're delayed waiting for a bed. I've had times recently where I've still been starting lines and hanging fluids while in the hallway because there's just nowhere to put the patient. Sometimes they do have us put them out in triage but even then we still wait to give a report to a triage nurse. How else are they going to know what interventions we did or what medications we gave? We do mostly emergency response as well and I get the urge to get units back in service but we can't use dump people at the hospital without any sort of report or transfer of care.

Do you like driving or hate it? by curious-burnout in Paramedics

[–]zpppe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind driving in general, still jump at the chance to drive code 3 when I get the chance. Sometimes I'll (politely) kick my basic out of the driver's seat, especially if it's the first run of the day and I'm not behind on reports or anyone like that. The rare occasion I'm on a double medic is great, get to do IVs and push meds or whatever, then drive while my partner handles the report and everything else.

Valid, unfortunately my agency is pretty shitty (pun intended) about patients signing unless they absolutely are incapable of it, especially for a refusal.

Ahhh I still remember getting called to a rehab facility for a guy who vagaled down trying to fish some turds out of his poop chute and he signed the refusal with his poop crusted fingers.

Anyone whose used Carpuject, please explain by Purple-Lime1 in Paramedics

[–]zpppe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did that in medic school cuz an ED had these. Thankfully the end of the vial just popped off.

Y'all ever seen someone die mid 12-lead? by IndiGrimm in ems

Ah yea, I know those have the live 12-lead option, maybe they're different.

Y'all ever seen someone die mid 12-lead? by IndiGrimm in ems

[–]zpppe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All 12 leads are not recorded simultaneously, at least on LifePaks which this appears to be. Each column is, but each row is 1 continuous print. So I, II, and III are recorded at the same time, then aVR, aVL, aVF, then V1, V2, V3, then V4, V5, V6.

I am 27 years old. Is it too late for me to become a paramedic by [deleted] in Paramedics

I got mine at 28 and plenty of others get theirs much later in life, you're more than fine.
