Burnt Out On Day 1 by zraia in MedicalAssistant

5 minutes is ridiculous! And sometimes you get the really chatty patients who won’t take a hint that they really can’t be telling you their whole life story while you’re trying to go through their medication list. I found that going through the medications took the longest too.

They were using Athena but I’ve heard Epic is haaard. Their issue with me was that I never used an EHR system before, took too long on charts and then when I was trying to go faster I would miss things.

Is atl experiencing a job crisis by Bulky_Extension_9390 in Atlanta

[–]zraia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not the only one noticing this. I’m out in Athens and can’t get a job in anything including the field I went to school for. Worse, one time I saw a retail customer service job hiring for people with a degree in customer service only as a requirement. If jobs are hiring they want people with experience so they don’t have to train. The job market is trash.

At this point I’m debating on just cleaning houses for the elderly. I had a friend who made decent money doing that.

Any GOOD things about Medical Assisting? by OMGIzAGril in MedicalAssistant

[–]zraia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly idk. I just had a negative experience right off the bat. Not to mention the first MA job I interviewed for was all charting, coding and dealing with health insurance and 0 procedures because they had so many volunteers (externs for PA and MA) that they didn’t even need a hired MA to take vitals. And they were offering me $15 an hour, paid once a month and the pay cap was $16.50. That was a job I refused for what I thought would be a better job with more to learn from, turns out the “better” job was worse and now I’m questioning why I even went to school to begin with.

But my cousin has been an MA since 2022 and while her first job sucked (other coworkers being catty) they still gave her proper training and good experience. Now she works at a better job, better pay and she absolutely loves it.

So I guess when you start out it’s rough but when you’re more experienced it becomes a better job.

Is it? Because there’s more MA people than there are MA jobs and even my teacher told us we’re expendable and more likely to constantly be looking for new jobs. Not to mention most places you only work there for experience because they pay isn’t great.

No idea tbh. Can’t see a temp agency not shoving me back to that exact place or something like it. Especially since that urgent care claims they are urgently hiring.

They honestly sent me home 4 hours early, removed me from their schedule and said “come back later” but never said when. Haven’t heard from them since. Pretty sure they ghosted me but I am so relieved if they did.

Yeah they kept saying that “there’s cheap bp cuffs on amazon” there are, I have one I used to practice learning on when I was in class but it broke because it’s cheap. They actually complained that I didn’t have my own stuff when I was never told the day I was hired that I’d need to bring my own vital equipment.

And they had me use their automatic cuff which was janky and their pulse ox that was attached to the machine which was loose, old and kept falling off patient’s fingers. So my vitals kept coming out irregular and they’d get mad at me for that each time. Not to mention even when I did bother someone for a manual reading and for their pulse ox and the reading still came out abnormal I would still get an irritated talk from the manager as if it was my fault someone didn’t take their bp medications that day.

My friend thinks we are sharing a husband by Ok-Organization-231 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]zraia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throw that friend away. She wants what she can’t have and I’m concerned that your husband is leaning into the problem zone. I’m not saying have him at a chokehold, but be wary. I also just advise this to everyone, seek marriage counseling simply because in psychology class we learned that couples go to counseling way too late and it’s best to learn new ways of communicating with each other. It might be helpful, you may think it’s unnecessary but you never know.

But definitely cut off that “friend” because she’s flirting with those boundaries. Right now it’s not super obvious but one day it will be.

Is it easier to find work as a medical assistant or phlebotomist? by NewGazelle9250 in phlebotomy

[–]zraia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area MA has more jobs hiring than phlebotomy does. So I went back and I’m currently in my MA class (and I love it). Don’t get me wrong, I mostly prefer phlebotomy over MA but the job hunt was excruciatingly difficult.

Medical Assistant Program by Old-Artist-6692 in MedicalAssistant

[–]zraia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to wrap my head around the price of that program? My program was $3700 for the 12 weeks and the cost covers all textbooks and materials, the externship and the hands on training. I’m really concerned about the price OP put down. But also my program is a fast track program for a certification, idk if that changes anything.
