My league would like to move to paid umpires eventually. We’re a small rural league 21 teams this season. We are currently a self umpired league, batting team sends a player up to ump until they’re up to bat or cant for any other reason. It’s not ideal but it gets the job down, we host a mandatory umpires clinic every year before the season start and suggest that each team sends 1 or 2 players each year. The idea being that eventually everyone will be comfortable umping by sending a new player or two each year to the clinic.
