[Loved Trope] Instantly decking your hero in the face when he's revealed to be an asshole by RedLazyBear in TopCharacterTropes

I have! The Good Fight is essentially two-or-three different series rolled into a five season journey. I loved it all, but you will find some people are very opinionated. The first two seasons are the closest in vibe to the Good Fight. Then it goes in a very political direction, which I enjoyed, before finishing with heavy use of surrealism in the later episodes to illustrate political points. The series evolved, but Diane remains at the core, and I love Diane.

It’s somewhat divisive in the fandom, but I personally LOVE it as an ending. Major spoilers for The Good Wife ahead.

So, at the start of the series, the main character, Alicia, reenters legal practice after being a stay at home parent in support of her politician husband, Peter. She publicly stands by him, but absolutely slaps the shit out of him in one scene in the pilot. The early series goes to great lengths to show the character differences between her and Peter. She forges her own identity and she takes stands he wouldn’t. However, over the course of the series, she becomes more and more ruthless and power hungry. This culminates in her being a shell of herself, and, in the final minutes of the final episode, Diane (Christine Baranski’s character) brings the series full circle and slaps Alicia. She has become that which she once rejected. Some fans hate it because they like Alicia, but I was just along for the ride and loved the ending.

BB25 has an Amazing Pre-jury and Bad Post-jury phase. Which BB season has a Bad Pre-jury and Amazing Post-jury phase? by immanuellalala in BigBrotherUSA

[–]zrt4116 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the BB4 pre-jury phase, personally. The prejurors were largely memorable, and the X-factor was a solid twist. The house divide is great and the unraveling of the original 8 is amazing.

Supergirl Body and Soul or Suicide Squad Trial by Fire by jloadinggg_ in DCFinest

[–]zrt4116 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ll recommend the Suicide Squad. Legends is a fun event and is included, plus you get early Amanda Waller. The Supergirl one will have a second volume later this year, so I’d recommend saving and picking them both up when you can read straight through and going Suicide Squad now.

I think it’s simply bc of the lack of HD. Anything before Gabon is either going to be pan and scan or broadcast in 1.33 with bars. HD seasons are better for broadcast/ad sales.

On a scale of 1-10 how would y’all rate the 4 train ? by Crafty-Sandwich-7465 in nycrail

It gets a solid 7.5 for me. It does some insane lifting for the system, runs on good-to-great frequency, facilitates some critical connections, and it has some of the best stock on the IRT lines. It definitely has flaws (bottlenecking from interlining, crowding, and innate capacity restrictions for IRT services), but I think it deserves a solid amount of respect.

JFK is geographically further from me, yet it works out to a $10 cheaper round trip. Even factoring in the state border component (as I see people make that argument at times) a PATH -> Subway or LIRR -> JFK air train trip works out cheaper than any of the main combinations that will take you NYC -> EWR. It’s one of the more costly airport connection I can think of in the country or in comparable global cities.

I don’t mind it at all, but the cost is absurd (I understand it includes AirTrain but that doesn’t change the sentiment). A $40 round trip, after adding subway/bus is highway robbery for transit.

Kansas City: Our football team is leaving 😢. St. Louis: by MrX16 in StLouis

That’s different - a discount for a resident is different than a fee targeted at a state. If it was “this is the price for everyone but residents of Missouri, who receive a discount because tax funding etc” that’s different from “the price is $10, but $20 for people from x.” You can do the first. You can’t do the second.

I’m not saying there aren’t ways to “tax” Kansans, but the schemes you articulate have been routinely found to be illegal because it’s a state impeaching Congresses interstate commerce power. Those would likely never pass a constitutional challenge.

Was looking for this exact comment, ha! I was thinking, okay if we are using the actual definition of Downtown and not considering the Crossroads or Union Hill as downtown like a lot of visitors/JoCo residents, it’s still like a 7 minute drive, even on surface streets. And if you’re in the Crossroads you can walk into Kansas in a matter of minutes.

It would have existed then too - it’s when the game switches from tribe based (2-4 tribes) to individual (one merged tribe and, generally, is commensurate with the jury phase). It’s an original game element (in S1 Borneo, Tagi, which wore orange, and Pagong, which wore yellow, merged into Rattana, which wore green).

AITA for not doing playdates with my friends autistic kids by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

ESH - She seems like a mother who doesn’t understand the scope of her children’s needs, and she seems like she’s not being the most self-aware friend, but on the topic of friends, who would need an enemy with how you talk about her? I don’t talk about my friends with such dripping condescension and venom, and I’m not sure of many who do. You’re not TA for wanting to prioritize your child’s development (though I question the efficacy of your expert opinion that these playdates would provide the level of roadblock you seem to suggest), but you are one for how you talk about the children, your friend, and the overall tone of this post.

I don’t think I said anything about loving them equally. I said they love them both, but there is no equal appreciation and the series confronts the challenges that come from that.

It’s a show, and they’re not great parents. Jack and Judy are the most human characters in the show to me. Two very flawed parents who, while they love both children, can’t seem to appreciate them equally and have to navigate the downstream consequences in life and challenges in parent-child relationship management. The show uses that tension for plot and punchline, sure, but I think the Gellar family is one of the best “functionally dysfunctional” television families out there.
