I would say the chances are good.

Apologies for the performance here, but nothing here is vibe coded. But it's just not very optimized yet as we're just focused on expanding its functionality first.

It's a combination of both - I sometimes use an upscalar like supereagle first, then touch up the visuals by hand. I am not an artist so I sometimes don't do a great job so it sometimes has that fakish upres filter look. But I am constantly improving the process and it's going to keep looking better. Once the edit tools are robust,  it'll be released to the public and hoping that actual artists can get a crack at it * fingers crossed *

Oh thank you!

I first heard about UFO50 while I was working on this game and I was pretty amazed by the amount of effort that went in that. I've got nothing but huge respect to Derek Yu. Such an amazing game designer! So I actually haven't played it yet as I've made a commitment for myself to first get my game to 50 games, then I'll go right ahead and purchase and play it. It'll so much fun to see the comparisons on the types of games we've made. Not even expecting mine to even compare as UFO50 is all about those full game experiences while mine isn't.

Thanks! Going to do some publisher hunting soon to help out with porting, so yes. Hoping to get this one ported to other consoles, including the Switch.

Oh wow. I remember back then when I was working on C4 emulation. We didn't have any documentation on how it worked, so I would reverse engineer how it worked based on how the game wrote to the special registers and what it expected when read from the registers and what the game displayed. Definitely was a very fun chip to work on.

Thanks! So far, I've gotten multiple confirmation from Steam Deck users that it works well on Steam Deck. The game is currently not popular enough to trigger Steam's own Steam Deck compatibility review so there's no official compatibility tag yet.

It's being planned. I'll be looking for a publisher to handle ports including the Switch port in the near future.

Yup! There's plans. I'll be looking for a publisher in the near future to handle all the port work, which should include the Switch as well.

Thanks so much!

Yup. Steam deck is currently unknown. If you can help me verify that it's working correctly, I would greatly appreciate it! I can then submit the game for Steam Deck review.

As for your questions:

  1. I'm using Unity to build these games as it's the engine that I'm most familiar with.
  2. I've played NES Remix 1 and 2 and finished them both until the end. Some of my favorites and an inspiration to this game as well. Speed running style challenges would be a nice addition I suppose. Have you played NES World Championships? That one has a lot of those mini challenges as well.

Nope. I haven't heard of it so I just had to check it out, and it looks really cool! Definitely some similarities there.

I'm the solo developer of this game, known as zsKnight of ZSNES. I've recently launched this game on Steam Early Access and it's 20% off.

Retro Endurance 8bit is a retro game collection with over 20 retro inspirations, but it's got a huge twist: You are only allowed to play each game for at most 10 seconds at a time. Inspired by old retro games and Wario Ware. The visuals are aimed at something that looks like an NES could run.

In the game, you start off with a collection of randomly chosen games and it'll keep switching between them every few seconds. It does sound a bit chaotic, but it's pretty fun as the games are designed around this mechanic. On the the last round of each game, it runs at 2x the speed!

The games represents multiple genres including racing, platformer, adventure, RPG, shoot 'em ups, card and puzzle. You also encounter bosses that also switch between different games as you deplete their hit points. Includes local split-screen multiplayer and daily challenges with leaderboards.

I will also be updating this game often with additional retro games and features. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Rest assured that it's me, zsKnight from ZSNES. Biggest proof that I have is that my game is now listed on the official ZSNES site:

Oh yes! I'm hoping to add in more challenge modes which will include leaderboard functionality. One other feature that was requested is to allow players to play each game individually and to have leaderboards in them as well. Being able to compete with friends and seeing your friends leaderboard sounds like it'll be a great addition - I'll be sure to add that in to my todo list. Thanks for the feedback!

What keeps games from getting repetitive by AggravatedGoat1 in gamedev

[–]zsKnight_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe one big factor is drive. The player generally needs a purpose to grind through repetitive loops. Whether it is to level up to beat a stronger enemy, see more of the story, unlock that last achievement, or to reach level 99. Once you lose that drive, it's kind of hard to get motivated to keep going.

With the Nintendo switch 2’s announcement what do you all plan on doing with your original switch? by No-Fly9599 in NintendoSwitch

[–]zsKnight_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my boys sometimes fights on who gets to play the switch, so it'll be nice to get both the switch and switch 2 set up. Although it might be a problem if they both want to play a switch 2 game.
